The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 311: Batman with Nothing Left
"Bzzzt!"
Scarlet heat vision tore through one enhanced operative after another. With that, the Suicide Squad had been completely wiped out.
"Hey, Amanda."
"You really shouldn’t have tried to piss me off."
After brutally crushing the final Suicide Squad member’s head, Jovian picked up the communicator lying on the ground and spoke softly into it.
"This place isn’t safe anymore..."
Elsewhere, Amanda Waller was hiding inside the base, her expression deathly still. She knew the facility was no longer secure. They had to evacuate immediately, or complete annihilation awaited them.
"Ma’am! Radar has detected an unidentified object approaching from above!"
Just as Amanda prepared to evacuate, one of the soldiers monitoring the radar detected something in the sky. It was moving incredibly fast and was remarkably small, almost the size of a person.
"It’s over..."
Amanda’s face drained of color. Jovian could have avoided their radar entirely and descended without warning, but he had deliberately allowed them to detect him.
He intended to teach the entire world a lesson.
"Boom!"
As Amanda reached that realization, a thunderous roar shook the facility. A figure plunged from the sky, smashed straight through the roof, and landed inside the base.
"Who the hell are you?!"
The soldiers stared nervously at the figure who had fallen from above. They swallowed hard, tightened their grips on their weapons, and barely dared to breathe.
"Hey, everyone. Good evening."
A raspy voice emerged from the cloud of dust. The man slowly stepped forward like a mighty king appearing before his subjects.
"Open fire!"
Amanda did not hesitate. She immediately ordered everyone around her to unload their weapons on the godlike figure.
The soldiers gulped.
Once they saw who was walking out of the smoke, every one of them hesitated.
Standing before them was the great hero they had seen on television, in movies, on posters, and throughout the media. It was Jovian, the God Among Men who protected the world.
"You really think those things can hurt me?"
"Wake up, soldiers. These people are only trying to throw your lives away!"
Dressed in his tight white suit, Jovian calmly faced the soldiers with the corner of his mouth raised. His words carried an unmistakably provocative edge.
"Soldiers, I said open fire!"
Amanda drew a sharp breath as she looked at the soldiers standing frozen in place, too frightened to pull their triggers.
"Fire!"
Hearing the coldness in Amanda’s voice, the soldiers abandoned their better judgment and began squeezing their triggers.
"Ratatatatat!"
Countless bullets flew toward Jovian, darkening his expression.
"Soldiers, I’m sorry to say that your actions are about to cost you the most precious thing you possess. Close your eyes and think carefully about your families, because you’re never going to see them again."
The moment Jovian finished speaking, fiery red light ignited in his eyes.
"Bzzzt!"
A scarlet beam instantly pierced through a soldier’s skull.
There was no scream and no suffering. The moment the light passed through his head, the soldier went silent and collapsed motionless to the floor.
"Bzzzt! Bzzzt!"
It was a completely one-sided massacre. Wherever the light passed, lifeless soldiers fell.
Before long, Jovian’s heat vision eliminated the final soldier. He then walked over to Amanda.
"Now it’s your turn, bitch."
Jovian stared at Amanda and spoke with chilling indifference.
Amanda said nothing, but her eyes burned with fury. An alien had insulted and degraded her.
Before Amanda could think any further, the entire world suddenly began spinning. She saw a headless body, followed by Jovian smiling down at her.
"Fu..."
Amanda tried to speak, but no sound came out. Her head struck the floor as blood continued pouring from her severed neck.
"Next... Bzzzt!"
With his hands clasped behind his back, Jovian surveyed the devastated base and raised an eyebrow. His gaze locked onto a nearby natural gas pipeline, and twin beams of heat vision erupted from his eyes.
"Boom!"
A deafening explosion followed, engulfing the entire facility in flames.
"Oh. What a terrible waste of natural gas."
"They could’ve sold it to Europe at a premium."
Jovian frowned as he watched the base explode. He had always hated waste.
Jovian soon returned home. By the time he arrived, the area outside his house looked completely different. His subordinates had already cleaned everything up.
He walked over to the bushes and gently patted the unconscious Harley Quinn.
"Huh?!"
"Morning, sweetheart!"
Harley opened her eyes, saw Jovian standing over her, and immediately leaned forward to kiss him.
"You really need a shower."
Jovian tossed Harley to his subordinates.
Several dozen minutes later, a thoroughly cleaned and freshly dressed Harley Quinn appeared before him.
"Ooh."
"Why’d you make me look so pretty?"
Harley was wearing a beautiful, revealing evening gown as she looked at Jovian curiously.
"Personal preference."
With that, Jovian hoisted Harley over his shoulder and carried her toward the house.
"Hahahaha!"
Rather than feeling upset about being carried away, Harley laughed delightedly like a little lunatic.
Of course, Harley Quinn really was a little lunatic.
Early the following morning, Clark approached Jovian.
"What were those people doing here yesterday?"
"Your brother makes enemies every second of every day. Assassination attempts are perfectly normal for me. I hadn’t planned on killing them, but they crossed the line. Assassins aren’t allowed anywhere near this house. That’s the rule."
Jovian sat on the couch as he explained the situation.
"They went too far. Weren’t they afraid of hurting innocent people?"
Clark was furious. He had already suspected that those people might have come to assassinate his brother. Having his suspicions confirmed only made him angrier.
"Don’t worry. I’ll handle it."
"I’ll take care of everyone who’s targeting us, one by one."
Jovian gently patted Clark on the shoulder to reassure him.
"All right..."
Clark nodded and said nothing more.
"By the way, what about that girl from yesterday?"
Clark suddenly remembered Harley and gave Jovian a knowing look.
"Oh? You mean Harley?"
"She’s still asleep. Things got a little rough between us last night."
Jovian casually answered as though it were nothing important.
"You certainly have unusual tastes."
Clark had to admit that Jovian’s tastes were extreme. He could not believe his brother had actually gone after a lunatic like her.
"You wouldn’t understand."
"The fact that she’s a lunatic is exactly what makes her fun."
Jovian smiled at Clark. His brother was still too young. Once he grew a little older, he would understand.
"All right, get back to whatever you were doing."
"I need to return to work."
"You know, every extra second I spend resting is another second in which the world suffers."
Jovian stretched his body and left the mansion.
"Good luck, Jovian!"
Clark waved at his brother’s retreating back. He had once looked forward to becoming a hero himself, but now he realized that heroism was not a job any normal person could handle.
He would be much better off concentrating on being a good husband. That sounded far easier than living Jovian’s life as a superhero.
"Mm."
Outside the mansion, Jovian gave a slight nod before transforming into a blur and shooting into the sky.
"What should I do next?"
As he flew through the air, Jovian began wondering who he should visit to entertain himself.
Elsewhere, Lex Luthor stared at the data he had obtained and roared in disbelief.
"Impossible! That damned bastard completely ignored Kryptonite! A Kryptonian who’s immune to Kryptonite? How are we supposed to defeat him now?"
"Calm down. Krypton has always produced exceptional individuals who surpass the conventional limits of Kryptonians."
"Kryptonite only works on the weaker ones among us."
Thragg raised the corner of his mouth as he watched Lex lose control. His expression then became calm and cold.
"You never told me your world had monsters like that!"
Lex glared at Thragg.
"Told you?"
"Remember this, Lex. We are partners. I’m not your subordinate!"
"You and I are equals."
"Besides, I already told you everything you needed to know. I’ve said it at least a thousand times. Doomsday is the answer to Jovian, not that worthless Kryptonite! But did you listen? No, you didn’t. You decided all by yourself that Kryptonite could kill Jovian!"
Thragg roared furiously at Luthor.
"Thragg..."
Lex had not expected Thragg to become so enraged, and panic immediately rose within him. The truth was that he could no longer manage without Thragg.
Whether it involved LexCorp, his experiments, or his greater plans, Thragg had become the indispensable heart of everything.
"Luthor, don’t assume you’re the only person I can work with."
After delivering that warning, Thragg angrily flew out of LexCorp Tower.
"Damn it!"
Lex watched Thragg leave, then furiously kicked a trash can across the room.
He continued shouting and raging, venting the emotions building inside him.
Once he was high in the sky, Thragg could no longer suppress his laughter.
Lex Luthor was simply too amusing. He was an insignificant man who was unbearably arrogant and convinced of his own genius.
In Gotham City, the Joker paced restlessly.
"Sweetheart! Where did my sweetheart go?"
After losing Harley Quinn, the Joker felt as though something had been taken from him. He stared at his increasingly pale face in the mirror and found himself growing bored.
He wanted his entertaining Harley Quinn back.
"I know where Harley Quinn is."
As the Joker lay idly inside a room filled with weapons, wondering what he should do next, a ghostlike figure silently appeared behind him.
"Oh, it’s you."
"Harley Quinn isn’t that important, really. As long as you’re willing to keep playing with me."
The Joker slowly rose and smiled at his old friend.
"We don’t have time for your games, Joker!"
"Since you’ve agreed to work with me, start taking this seriously."
Batman tossed a USB drive to the Joker and left alone.
"Hm?"
The Joker looked down at the USB drive with a smile. He eagerly dragged over a computer and inserted it.
The drive contained footage of everything the Suicide Squad had experienced.
The Joker watched Jovian destroy his enemies as casually as a god.
At the very end of the recording, Jovian raised his middle finger directly at the camera.
It appeared that Jovian had noticed the camera long ago. He simply had not cared.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha."
The Joker covered his mouth with the back of his hand and let out a strange laugh as he stared at Jovian on the screen.
"You want to play with me?"
An incomprehensible sound escaped the Joker’s mouth.
"Bzzzt... Bzzzt..."
While the Joker was laughing, the footage on his computer suddenly began flickering.
Harley Quinn then appeared on the screen.
It was footage of Harley intimately entangled with another man.
The Joker fell silent.
As he stared at the recording, his perpetually deranged mind seemed to regain a small measure of clarity.
"Tick. Tick. Tick."
The Joker began clutching at his green hair when he suddenly heard a noise resembling the ticking of a clock.
He raised his head and stared blankly at a clock mounted on the wall.
There had never been a clock in that room.
More importantly, the clock appeared to be counting down.
"Ha. Ha. Ha."
The Joker seemed to realize something, and he burst into laughter once again.
"Boom!"
A second later, flames filled the entire room.
The enormous explosion brought the building crashing down.
Batman had not gone far when the sudden fireball caught his attention. Realizing that he had fallen into a trap, he immediately turned and raced toward the ruins.
He dug through the debris again and again.
Eventually, Batman found the unconscious Joker inside a room that was so perfectly intact that he almost wondered whether his eyes were deceiving him.
Batman carried the Joker out of the burning wreckage, only to find countless cameras aimed directly at him.
Flash after flash illuminated the scene. Photograph after photograph captured Batman rescuing the Joker.
At that moment, Batman realized that he had fallen into yet another trap.
When one batch after another of seemingly irrefutable evidence appeared in newspapers across the world, the public spoke with a single voice.
"The Dark Knight is a fraud."
"He and his friend, the Joker, have been staging one pointless drama after another!"
"They simply happened to choose Gotham City as their stage!"
The entire world repeated those accusations.
"Batman, get out of Gotham!"
"Batman! Get out of Gotham!"
Some people even began actively trying to drive Batman from the city. They believed that all of Gotham’s suffering had been caused by him.
Inside the Batcave, the Joker, whose body was covered in injuries from the explosion, laughed loudly at Batman.
"Hahahaha! You have nothing left, Batman! Now even Gotham doesn’t want you!"
Batman sat silently before the computer.
He raised his head and remained lost in thought for a long time. Finally, he turned to face the Joker.
"Yes. I have nothing left."
"But neither do you."
The Batcave fell silent.
