He leaned back.

"Well, like I said, we are both from the exact same ancient race. We just belong to entirely different political factions. Multiple millennia ago, our original world was destroyed. We were a grand, unmatched civilization, but we still ultimately ended up destroying our own planet with our own hands. We developed our technology to a level that no one else in the cosmos could have."

He looked at the dirt floor.

"Once the planet was destroyed, we were miraculously still alive thanks to our technological developments. We knew exactly how to artificially create our own pocket dimensions. That is what you currently call ’Heaven’ and ’Hell’."

He waved his hand dismissively.

"To be honest, Hell isn’t exactly a horrible place filled with burning flames and all of that. That is just the pathetic lies that the Angelic churches of your continent have fed you. You see, your specific continent is basically dominated by Angelic Gods, so it is incredibly easy for them to safely sway public opinion over centuries. In every single commoner’s mind on your continent, the Demons are basically just evil humans who have gone to Hell and did even worse things to go from cursed souls to those who have authority."

The Demon smiled.

"The truth is though... on this specific continent right now, the Demons are the worshipped Gods. And we have our own beautiful Heaven. In fact, the so-called ’Hell’ here on this continent is actually the Heaven of the Angels. It is that wonderfully simple hahaha. We just go against each other’s propaganda. That is all."

He leaned forward, his expression turning serious.

"There was a powerful man who used to keep this specific planet safe. But he did... some experiment, let’s say, and he completely disappeared. Us Demons and Angels had successfully managed to take over every single planet in this whole universe that possessed life, and our combined forces were pretty much entirely equal."

"But even though we launched a massive, combined attack on this specific planet... nothing happened to it. The only thing that actually happened was that we took catastrophic damages. Almost half of our entire forces were violently wiped out in a single, terrifying instant. The strongest beings who were basically our supreme leaders had jumped in to personally fight the singular protector of this planet... and they immediately perished. All it took was one single, horrifying instant. They just ceased to exist."

The Demon shuddered slightly at the memory.

"Seeing this, we retreated, utterly terrified that we might all die. But then, after a few more millennia passed, we couldn’t sense his dominating presence on this planet anymore. So we decided to strike again. We created our own unique, insidious strategies."

"The Angels created the High Elves, and you already know exactly what eventually happened to the Elves. As for us Demons, we didn’t really bother creating a new race. We just took over the bodies of various native people, specifically humans. And that is exactly what I am doing right now."

He gestured to his body.

"While this method seals up most of our true power and doesn’t allow us to do a lot of things we are actually capable of, it still gives us a massive amount of control. The one distinct advantage we have over the Angels is that we fully retain our true memories. The Angels basically just blindly grab a random soul and send it here as an apostle, and this being will not have much information at all. They only started doing this Apostle thing after their grand plan with the High Elves catastrophically failed."

The Demon smirked widely.

"As for exactly how the Elves eventually realized that the Angels were manipulating them... can you guess how?"

Adrian rolled his eyes. "Isn’t it pretty obvious? Based on everything that you just said, you probably took over an Elf’s body and used that specific Elf to convince, or let’s say reveal the harsh truth, to the other Elves."

The Demon shook his head.

"No. The Elves, while they were pretty strong, were specifically created to counteract us Demons. We could not possess their bodies. That was their main defining feature. But when they arrogantly attacked our territory... which was basically a human kingdom that had been recently established by us, we used that exact chance to talk with their leaders."

He smiled wickedly.

"At the exact same time, we also successfully sent some of our best men to corrupt the World Tree with corrupted mana. And that was it since that was the beginning of their downfall. Because the thing is, while we did in fact intentionally poison the World Tree... the Elves were convinced that the Angels had callously abandoned them. Everything perfectly sorted itself out. We easily won that specific war, and we did take over a highly advantageous position. But the Angels adapted...."

"As time passed, the Angels took religious control of multiple human settlements and tribes. Bit by bit, those small tribes merged, formed massive kingdoms, and then soon became Empires. Civilizations rapidly grew. Meanwhile, we Demons were too busy trying to deal with our own problems."

He shrugged. "Which I guess won’t hurt to tell you about. That specific war cost us heavily, and there was a long period where we couldn’t really safely take over any more human bodies due to certain issues. So while we were dormant for a few decades and the Angels took the advantage on your continent."

Adrian nodded slowly, absorbing the massive lore drop.

"So tell me. Who is currently in an advantageous position right now?"

"Well, currently? None of us," the Demon sighed. "The Angels already tried to take the mantle as the ’True God’ of this planet, but they couldn’t. Even we tried to do it. But the fundamental thing is, we Angels and Demons... our race just cannot become a True God. Our race is strictly a Cosmic Warrior race. We can do miraculous, magical things, but we cannot permanently change the fundamental laws of this universe. We can bend some, we can temporarily control a few, and we can do a little bit of minor tweaking here and there. But those changes will never, ever be permanent."
