The Villainess Is My Cute Daughter
Chapter 328: Give Them Tummy Ache
Then she slowly looked back up at Adrian.
"Magic really is convenient, isn’t it?" Claire said flatly.
Adrian could easily sense a tone of pure frustration in her voice.
"Well yeah, it is pretty convenient," he agreed, totally missing the actual point, thhinking that she was just probably annoyed that she couldn’t use magic.
Claire just let out a massive sigh.
"Okay, yeah, whatever," she grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest. "Just tell me what you wanted to talk about regarding the war."
Adrian nodded.
But as he looked at her, his gaze involuntarily drifted down to her clothes. It was completely instinctual and it just sorta happened.
Underneath all that heavy steel plate, she was wearing something very similar to a modern tank top. And she was also wearing a pair of extremely tight dark leggings. It was obviously a pretty good way of preventing the cold metal of the armor from directly irritating her skin while she moved.
But as he looked at her bare shoulders, he frowned a little.
"Wait," Adrian said, pointing at her arms. "If you are wearing something like a tank top under your breastplate, it is totally obvious that your arms are going to chafe and itch against the steel right? Isn’t it way better to wear something long-sleeved? I’ve seen the other knights wearing long-sleeved padded shirts all the time."
Claire kept her arms crossed as she spoke. "Well I wasn’t the one who packed my things. I just asked my servant to pack my bags for the trip but she probably told the newbie who joined a few weeks ago to do all the packing, and this new girl obviously doesn’t know what kind of gear to pack for a war. So she probably ended up packing these."
She tugged at the strap of her top.
"I prefer wearing these when I sleep. But now I am stuck with them until this whole war is over."
Adrian looked at her. "Well you should have at least told me if you had an issue like this you know."
"What do you mean?" Claire asked. "It is not like you can just go to a local shop out here and buy me new ones just because I am a little bit uncomfortable."
Adrian chuckled. "Not really. But did you forget that I am literally the blessed of the Goddess of Prosperity? There are a lot of things that I can do. Just don’t tell this to anyone."
He closed his eyes.
Claire just stood there and watched him.
It didn’t really take him too long. In reality, he had already commanded the dungeon to manufacture a batch of highly elastic, full-sleeved combat shirts in about two seconds, and the system basically did it instantaneously. But he just acted like it took a little bit more time because he just thought it felt nice to be a little dramatic. He had no other reason.
After almost forty seconds, he opened his eyes and snapped his fingers.
Right in front of Claire, a thick stack of neatly folded black shirts appeared out of thin air and dropped onto the cot.
Claire just stared at the pile.
She looked up at Adrian. "Is this for real?"
"Yeah it is," Adrian said. "But of course there is a limit to what I can do. And well, there are also a lot of things that I just can’t tell you."
Claire nodded. She looked like she completely understood what he meant.
"Well now that this is done," Adrian said, gesturing to the clothes. "Tell me if this is the right size or if it is too big or small."
Claire picked up the top shirt and held it up against her body. She half-wondered if he could magically resize them on command. But as she looked at the fabric, she realized it was literally the perfect size for her. She would obviously have to put it on to check the elasticity and everything, but it looked pretty close to perfection from just a single glance.
"Well it looks pretty good," Claire said. "But I would need to actually wear it once before I can tell you if it works or not."
"Okay you can do that later," Adrian said. "But for now, sit down."
He patted the empty space on the bed right beside him.
Claire’s ears immediately turned red again. But she put on a really professional face and walked over to sit down.
Adrian just leaned forward. He didn’t even look at her. He just rested his elbows on his knees and stared at the stack of clothes sitting in front of him.
He let out a soft sigh.
"I’ve tried my best to stall for time," Adrian muttered. "But these guys are just going to send their soldiers to die. And now I don’t even know what to do anymore. How do I show these people the actual fear of going to war? I want these nobles to be forced into the front lines, but I don’t really know how to do it."
Claire just sat there trying to process what he was saying.
She had never heard of anyone actively trying to force noble lords onto the front lines. It was completely unheard of. She did know of a few commanders who rode out with their men, but it was extremely rare. Even her own dad rarely went out to fight. He was technically a knight, but he wasn’t really a great warrior. In her family, Sebastian was considered the strongest. But at this point, Claire was pretty confident that she had already reached his level or maybe even surpassed it.
But as she thought about Adrian’s problem, she fell into the exact same thought process. She didn’t really have any idea on how to force them either.
"Wait," Claire said. "Why don’t you just give them all a massive stomach ache? This way the soldiers won’t be able to go to war."
