Chapter 323: Field Testing Of Spells II

There was Thunderburst, Iceburst, and Flameburst.

This time, Adrian decided to use Iceburst.

Extreme frost energy traveled rapidly down his extended mana strand. The air around the invisible thread literally cracked as the temperature plummeted. Once the energy reached the tip of the strand, it shot out toward the wall.

The two nearest soldiers who had just crouched down to check on their fallen comrade took the hit point blank.

It looked almost like a dragon’s breath of frost flames.

This time, the spell was highly visible in the dark. The surrounding soldiers watched in pure horror as two of their colleagues completely froze solid while still in a crouching position.

Then, right in front of their eyes, the whitish flames of frost just disappeared.

It wasn’t exactly real fire of course. It was just extreme, super-chilled frost energy rapidly condensing all the moisture in the humid night air, which ended up making it look exactly like rolling white flames. The fact that the spell had basically materialized out of thin air just made it look incredibly unnatural.

The surviving soldiers were absolutely terrified.

They looked at each other in panic and started taking a few steps back. A couple of them immediately turned around and rushed down the stone stairs to report to their commanders.

Adrian withdrew his mana strand once again. He dispersed the Iceburst and let out a quiet chuckle.

Aria looked up at him with wide eyes. Serena softly chuckled along with him, her hands nervously playing with the hem of her robe.

Claire just stood there with her arms crossed. She looked up at the panic on the wall and then looked at Adrian.

"So based on your reaction, I’m guessing that was a success," Claire said.

Adrian nodded. "Yeah, it works perfectly."

He rolled his shoulders.

"There is another spell that I want to use though," Adrian said. "This one is my best creation. But it’s also completely different from the other two. It’s a lot more complicated and it does consume a pretty extreme amount of mana to pull off. You could say it’s a flame spell of sorts."

Serena, Claire, and the kids all looked highly intrigued.

The one who spoke up first was actually Vance. The kid stepped forward, his grip tightening on his guandao.

"My lord, how much mana does it consume?" Vance asked.

It made sense why Vance was curious. The kid’s demonic curse was Blazing Heartbeat, which made all of his fire magic cost double the normal amount of mana, so efficiency was something Vance obsessed over.

Adrian chuckled.

"Well I’m a third circle mage right now," Adrian said. "And let’s just say that this spell consumes around a quarter of my entire mana pool in one go. So that’s roughly a hundred points of mana you could say."

No one really understood what he meant by points of mana. That was just a gamer term he used in his own head and something that the system also used to quantify his stats. But they understood the sheer weight of a spell burning through a quarter of a third circle mage’s reserves in a single cast.

The kids did the mental calculations in their heads and nodded seriously.

Adrian nodded back and turned to look at the fortress wall again.

He could clearly see the regular soldiers scrambling around on the battlements, pointing out in his direction but they were slightly off. It was almost like they were pointing towards the military camp instead of him.

He didn’t have to wait very long. It only took a minute or two before a set of armored boots stomped up the stone stairs. A whole group of men walked over to the edge of the wall. Based on the ornate capes and the heavy plate armor, it was a group of high ranking commanders coming to investigate what was going on.

Adrian looked up at them.

He raised his right hand and pointed his index finger directly at the center commander.

’Let’s see how this handles armor,’ he thought.

Right at the tip of his finger, a tight ball of wind formed. It was the basic Gust spell, but Adrian compressed the spinning air to its absolute highest physical limit. The wind howled quietly, forming a dense, vibrating sphere of pressure.

Then he shot a mana strand straight out of his finger.

But he didn’t just use one. The main strand went directly through the exact dead center of the compressed ball of Gust. At the same time, multiple other mana strands sprouted from his finger and wrapped perfectly around the outside of the wind ball, forming a hollow, invisible cylinder.

Then he channeled Flameburst directly down the center strand.

The intense fire spell collided violently with the hyper-compressed Gust inside the small space. Adrian forced his mana to clamp down on the reaction, compressing the fire and wind even further. The intense heat and the extreme friction of the trapped air started feeding off each other.

The small sphere at the tip of his finger suddenly ignited into something completely different.

It looked exactly like a ball of superheated plasma. It was blindingly bright, glowing with an intense, furious white-blue light that illuminated their surroundings, finally revealing their positions.

Then came the final step.

Adrian channeled Thunderburst straight into the outer cage of mana strands. The high voltage electricity rapidly spiraled around the plasma ball, creating a massive electromagnetic field.

He essentially just built a magical railgun.

And then he released the pressure.

The speed of the glowing ball was so insanely fast it just looked like a solid laser beam shooting out of his finger.

The beam hit the heavy plate armor of the guy standing right beside the person standing at the center, who was the commander.

There was no explosion or a fiery blast.

The superheated plasma just punched a perfectly clean hole straight through the commander’s steel breastplate and out his back. It didn’t stop there. The projectile carried so much kinetic force that it instantly passed through the two fully armored guards standing directly behind him and continued flying.

Three men dropped to the floor with gaping holes in their chests.

The commander just stood there completely frozen, staring at the empty space where his lieutenant had been standing a millisecond ago.

Adrian smoothly withdrew all of his mana strands and dropped his hand down to his side.
