The Villain of Ancient Greece
Chapter 366: I Can’t Let Her Remain a Widow Any Longer!
No one knew how much time had passed.
Two enormous figures, half pure white skeleton and half hanging with charred scraps of flesh, crashed heavily onto the surging sea surface.
The original deserted island, along with the thousands of magical beasts on it, had already been evaporated by the sudden explosion.
Looking at the dead silence and desolation at the center of the blast, a surge of hot blood rushed into Hera’s mind.
The emotions that burst out overpowered all reason.
"No!"
A mournful cry echoed across the sea.
Yet the only answers the Queen of the Gods received were the roaring of the waves and...the wet sound of flesh writhing!
The giant holding the scythe and the dragon left with only half a head rose from the seawater.
The nearly half of their bodies that had been destroyed rapidly healed and regenerated under the rhythm of God-King authority.
At the same time the nine Giants who had inherited the authorities of major gods also reassembled their bodies under the illumination of divine crests.
Under the cover of these tall teammates, most of the outer magical beasts and Giants successfully weathered the self-detonation as well.
After all, the difference in power between a major-god level self-detonation and a lesser divinity level one was not small.
"Insect!"
"Bastard spawn!"
Enjoying the same treatment once given to Zeus, Typhon and Cronos endured the tingling itch of regenerating flesh and could not help cursing the opponent who fought without honor.
"Damn it!"
"You’re the ones who should be damned!"
On the sea surface the Queen of the Gods, who had only just learned elegance and tolerance, now had eyes nearly splitting with rage.
Like a shrew she burned her divinity without regard for the consequences, pouring her fury into the Heart-Seeking Bow and arrows, firing continuously at the two chief culprits Typhon and Cronos.
Yet facing two former God-Kings and nine Titan major gods, such resistance was destined to be powerless and laughable.
The arrows formed of lightning had not flown more than a few miles before they were neutralized by the dense sea beasts and Giants along the way.
Even so Hera still showed no intention of retreating or fleeing. Instead, with eyes reddened, she charged actively toward the densest cluster of magical beasts and Giants.
"Mother, run! If we don’t leave now it will be too late!"
Hebe hurriedly flew over and wrapped her arms around the mother who wanted to charge forward.
That all-or-nothing resistance felt somewhat familiar to her, yet also somewhat strange.
It was the same way her mother used to act every time she heard that Father Zeus was having an affair and went down to the mortal world to hunt the other woman.
Reckless, listening to nothing, as if she had gone mad.
But now it seemed different...
"Capture them. Alive!"
Typhon and Cronos looked at the mother and daughter on the sea and ordered with savage smiles.
If they sacrificed blood of the same lineage to themselves, their strength and authority would certainly be further liberated.
As for kinship?
As a god who had swallowed his own children and a beast that fed on its own kind, the two monstrous fathers had never possessed such a concept in their minds.
Watching the dense magical beasts and Giants surging in from all sides, and the mother struggling in her arms, Hebe’s heart turned ice-cold.
It’s over...
Just as the swarms of magical beasts and Giants were about to drown the fragile golden light on the sea surface, a faint divine utterance came from the void, poetic and song-like.
"I declare: I preside over slaughter,
I preside over life;
What I wound, I heal..."
This was—
Hearing that familiar voice that seemed to echo inside her mind,
Hera abruptly stopped struggling and raised her head toward the sound.
On the sea surface, amid the churning foam of Chaos, strands of gold-red divine blood gathered without dispersing and outlined a perfect circle.
—A summoning array!
Hera’s originally lifeless eyes were instantly filled with wild joy.
At the same time Typhon and Cronos, sensing the abnormality, both looked toward the sea area covered by gold-red blood light and suddenly understood.
It was not a self-detonation, but a sacrifice!
That guy sacrificed himself to summon something even stronger!
Feeling the divine aura rising step by step inside the summoning array, the two God-Kings simultaneously activated their authorities and charged toward the place of change.
They had to destroy this thing!
"That which none can surpass is the palm of my hand,
That which none can escape is the gaze of my eyes,
That which none can resist is the tip of my spear!"
Yet a hand had already passed through the summoning array condensed from divine blood.
Amid solemn chanting it grasped the withered-branch long spear that had fallen into the sea.
"Entrust to me, learn from me, obey me; Anoint with oil and seal the mark, grant forgiveness to the good and punishment to the sinful;
With the precious blood of the lamb, cast the edge of judgment,
[Revelation of All Phenomena], be revealed here!"
With the final lingering note, a figure bearing golden wings crossed space and arrived with graceful steps.
The Nation-Forging Spear in his hand, spurred by flame and light, transformed into a great burning palm tree that released the might of destruction and silence in every direction.
Ethereal factors madly converged all around and a red-black inverted cross pillar of light condensed from the tip of that withered-branch-like spear.
"Crack!"
In an instant the surging ethereal torrent first collapsed and compressed to the extreme with the spear tip as the node, then exploded with a roar.
Wherever it passed, space shattered and cut across itself, time stalled and stopped, starlight fell and died.
Brilliant colors formed a piercing haze.
Day and night became indistinguishable, as if the world had returned to the primordial Chaos.
Thick pillars of light shot outward in every direction.
Those that fell into the sea carved bottomless chasms.
Those that swept the ground pierced mountains and severed rivers.
Those that cut the sky scattered the clouds...
Under the blast, thousands of magical beasts and the nearby Giants caught in the range were reduced to ash.
Even the God-Kings Typhon and Cronos were forced to temporarily avoid the sharp edge of that dazzling radiance.
"We meet again, you two."
The divinity who had descended raised the burning long spear in his hand and looked at Typhon and Cronos. Like an old friend not seen for many years, he showed a warm and friendly smile.
It’s you again!
Typhon and Cronos stared at the figure before them that seemed impossible to get rid of. Sensing a certain familiar aura, they ground their teeth in hatred.
The little bastard who had tricked them into making a contract back in the Elysian Fields!
So from beginning to end, the one who had obstructed them and deceived them had been the same person!
New grudges added to old hatreds. The two God-Kings’ eyes seemed ready to spit fire as they roared through clenched teeth.
"Little bastard, you’re dead today!"
"Zeus seems to have said the same thing. Truly worthy of being family..."
Lorne sighed and shook his head. Twelve divine light patterns formed a perfect ring behind him, like a pure white crown.
Major god?
Cronos and Typhon sensed the power that exceeded limits inside the other. First they were stunned, then they sneered and shook their heads.
"You may be able to defeat the current Zeus, but that does not mean you can defeat the current us!"
"Being able to defeat one of us does not mean you can defeat both of us!"
In truth, as the God-King of destiny, the restrictions of the fate contract were greatest upon Zeus.
But Cronos and Typhon had always stood on the opposite side of fate. Even bound by the contract of the Three Goddesses of Fate, the reduction in rank was relatively limited. They were absolutely not something an ordinary major god could easily defeat.
Under this ebb and flow, even if Zeus projected a descending body, he would probably still be suppressed by them.
This was precisely the confidence that allowed them to incite the Gigantes race to attack Olympus.
And it was also for this reason that Zeus and the Olympian gods needed to borrow the power of humans and the force of fate on Heracles in order to have a chance of winning the Gigantomachy.
Now the Zeus they truly regarded as an opponent had not even shown himself, yet a mere major god wanted to challenge the army formed by two God-Kings. It was simply overestimating himself.
Even if he possessed the rank of a major god, it still would not work!
Cronos touched the flesh on his face that was rapidly healing, pointed at the nine Giants behind him who had inherited Titan authorities, and spoke with a savage smile.
"Heh, major god? We have plenty of those here..."
Two God-Kings with the trait of [Immortality], nine major gods, and countless magical beasts and Giants with the trait of [Undying]. On this desolate Chaos Sea they could grind the opponent to death simply by attrition!
Lorne smiled and nodded in agreement, then spoke leisurely.
"Mm, major gods. I have plenty of those as well."
"?"
Under the astonished gazes of Cronos and Typhon, Lorne slightly raised both hands as if embracing the entire sky.
This world covered by Chaos was opened and illuminated by glittering starlight.
At first it was only a single point, like a meteor that tore across the sky, trailing a long and bright light.
A vigorous figure fell purposefully from the highest point of the firmament, or rather from the firmament that had broken through Chaos.
The sky grew deep and unfathomable, then it was as if a sea of stars slowly rose to the surface, the light still dim.
In the next second every star was lit one after another, and they began to fall.
Countless long and bright lights existed as if burning, shining brilliantly across the boundless night sky and connecting into a continuous expanse.
Unlike the light bands with which Typhon burned the world, this was a more magnificent and progressive beauty.
When the first ray of starlight fell from the sky to the sea surface, a high declaration rippled through the star river.
"The enemy is right before our eyes. Gods of Olympus, win victory here!"
The purple-haired goddess holding the sheepskin divine shield and gripping the Spear of Victory rode a divine steed of the heavens and dove down from the starry sky.
Thousands of Pegasus knights gripping throwing spears also stepped out of the starlight, surrounding their goddess as they charged.
The vast army of Giants was roughly torn open in formation and forced back step by step.
"Thou art the silver of rapid fire!"
"Thou art the gold that pierces the stars!"
In the alternating roars of male and female voices, sun and moon shared the sky. Light arrows like a violent rain fell from the heavens, nailing the poisonous dragons gathering in the sky and the divine monsters rising from the sea surface on the spot.
The god of light Apollo driving a griffin chariot and the goddess of the hunt Artemis driving a golden-deer chariot flanked from both wings.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh!
Next came the sharp sound of beating wings. Battle nymphs holding bows danced through the air, sweeping across and advancing toward the chaotic sea surface, clearing the surging monsters along the way.
Behind them countless golden starlights fell and light-sand scattered. One after another figures wearing cyan, silver, and golden Cloths appeared. Barriers, techniques, and domains unfolded with composure.
Lorne bathed in this extreme meteor shower, comfortably opened both arms, and looked seriously at the astonished Cronos and Typhon opposite him.
"You two call for reinforcements. I can do the same."
Watching the starlight falling from the sky as if without end, the faces of Cronos and Typhon grew extremely ugly.
