The Unveiling of Secret Queen
Chapter 2372: Khendy Lordon Had Already Ordered Everyone in the Lordon Family Not to Interfere
Zevaney Kingsley found her own question laughable, laughed a bit, and waved her hand grandly, "Forget I asked."
Marco Lordon felt uncomfortable seeing her like that, so he asked her, "By the way, did you want to see me for something?"
Zevaney instantly brushed aside the slight discomfort in her heart, her apricot eyes closely eyeing Marco as if clutching to the only straw.
She wasn’t afraid his image of her would break in his heart, openly recounting the recent events to him.
Finally, she straightforwardly asked, "Could you help me look into whether this matter has anything to do with Nathalie Quinlan, if she did something behind the scenes..."
Marco patiently listened to her speak, even though he knew Zevaney wouldn’t keep insisting on seeing him unless something was wrong, but to hear firsthand that she sought him out solely to have him investigate Nathalie made him unconsciously agitated.
He pushed the coffee Zevaney had ordered for him aside, pressed his lips, and looked at the woman he once sincerely had feelings for, interrupting her, "I can’t help you anymore."
Zevaney’s voice abruptly stopped. Her reaction was bigger than when he told her he was getting married; she frowned instantly, suppressing her displeasure, "Why?"
"I can’t look into Nathalie Quinlan." Marco leaned back in his chair, facing her openly, concealing nothing, "Khendy Lordon ordered the entire Lordon Family not to meddle in matters related to Nathalie. If he finds out, he’ll go against the Lordon Family."
Khendy Lordon, of all people!
Zevaney never expected this.
Marco bitterly smiled, maintaining his poise, looking up at her, "You know the Lordon Family’s outward shine is only surface deep; our relationship with the Kingsleys Family depends entirely on Khendy’s presence. Who dares defy him? So... I’m sorry, I can’t help you this time."
...
It wasn’t long after refusing her that Marco proactively paid the bill and left the restaurant.
Zevaney didn’t leave.
She sat there in her original seat long after Marco left, unable to snap out of it.
She never imagined Khendy would interfere and even forewarn the entire Lordon Family. It seemed Marco’s hasty marriage might also be related to Khendy’s explicit warning to the Lordons.
The Lordon Family played a strategic move, cutting off her route to seek Marco’s help. With Marco married, she couldn’t keep asking a married man out to meet...
Zevaney was so infuriated she laughed, her eyes full of a chilling sheen, turning her head to get her bag and head back.
She keenly noticed someone with bags coming out from the mall outside the business district. She looked from afar and immediately recognized the girl walking in front — Nathalie Quinlan!
What is she doing here?
...Is it a coincidence?
Zevaney bit her lip, paused her movement with the bag, and locked her gaze tightly on the people below.
Nathalie quickly walked to the parked off-road vehicle by the roadside, and the man walking behind her helped her open the car door... Zevaney then saw the girl disappear from her line of sight.
She was a bit unwilling and was about to take another look.
Suddenly, a gaze shot straight towards her direction from below.
Zevaney felt a cold sweat on her back. Despite the long distance, she hunched her neck like she was afraid of being discovered, concealing her presence.
Finally, the line of sight disappeared, and the oppressive feeling on Zevaney vanished too.
She looked down again, and the off-road vehicle had already driven away.
Nathalie had long vanished as well.
