The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 200 - 199: Source of the Beast Tide
Chapter 200: Chapter 199: Source of the Beast Tide
"Sir, enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
On the night of the fourth day, as Gu Su was fast asleep, the voice of Crow’s Caw rang out. The eerie figure that had been sitting by his bedside vanished in an instant, and the book it held was stowed away in the cardboard box next to the bed.
Gu Su shot up from the bed, not even bothering to put on his shoes, and rushed out of the room barefoot.
The flames of the white candles in the small courtyard flickered wildly in the gust of wind he created, sending shadows dancing madly across the ground. He kicked open the courtyard gate and, in just a few quick strides, clambered up the surrounding wall to look out.
In the sky, there were no meteors, no points of light trailing wakes, but a dense web of golden lasers crisscrossing through the air.
Those beams of light resembled countless red-hot iron wires, carving Stinging Eyes trajectories across the night sky. Some shot straight toward the ground, while others collided in midair, erupting in brilliant bursts of light.
After the light dissipated, what remained were distorted clouds and a sundered night sky.
Gu Su stared at that expanse of golden light, stunned for several seconds.
’Is this something I can possibly stop?’
He suddenly understood. This wasn’t a minor skirmish like the beast tides before. This was the final, decisive battle between Ring Moon and the beast tide.
Those lasers were fired from deeper within the void, each beam representing a Power far beyond his comprehension.
On a battlefield like this, he couldn’t even be considered cannon fodder; at best, he was just a brick in the defensive line of Ring Moon.
’When a city is under siege, who cares what a single brick in the wall is thinking?’
He shook his head, somewhat speechless.
’I thought I could profit from this beast tide, but it turns out I can’t even get close to the action.’
Those golden lasers, every single one could easily tear his Graveyard Demons to pieces. All he could do now was stand here, watching, waiting, unable to do anything.
’Forget it. This fight is unwinnable.’
Just as Gu Su was about to turn and go back to sleep, a silvery-white light suddenly flared up from behind him.
The light came without any warning, yet it spread at an incredible speed.
It shot up into the sky from behind the defensive line, instantly dyeing the entire sky silvery-white.
Before this moonlight, the golden lasers were like ice and snow meeting molten iron, melting away in the blink of an eye without leaving a single trace.
The moonlight didn’t stop. It continued forward, rushing past the horizon and disappearing into the depths of the vast night sky.
The entire process was silent. There was only that expanse of silvery-white light, quietly and indisputably devouring everything.
Gu Su stood on the wall, head tilted back, his mouth slightly agape.
He recognized it. This was Ring Moon’s main cannon, the Eternal Moon.
He had only heard this name in legends before. It was said to be a purple-quality main cannon, which had been upgraded to Level 16 through the combined efforts of the Ring Moon City Lord and countless players.
According to legend, a single shot could blast the sun out of the sky, plunging the entire world into an eternal moonlit night.
Others said that the main cannon’s power source was a Moon God from some Game World. Someone had even wanted to name the cannon "Wrath of the Moon God" back then, but the idea was ultimately rejected...
Gu Su had been around Ring Moon for so long, but he had never seen this main cannon truly unleash its power.
He had once thought those legends were just stories made up by the higher-ups to stabilize player morale.
But now, he had seen it with his own eyes.
The moonlight lingered in the night sky for seven or eight minutes before slowly dissipating.
The silvery-white light gradually faded, but the sky didn’t return to its original deep purple. Instead, it was replaced by a bizarre dark red, as if it had been dyed by something, or as if the sky itself was bleeding.
Immediately after, Gu Su saw countless silver threads appear in the sky.
The threads shot out from where the moonlight had just vanished, extending in all directions like a giant spiderweb capturing some prey.
The threads grew longer and denser, looking particularly Stinging Eyes against the dark red backdrop.
Some extended upward, some spread to the sides, and some even pierced directly into the depths of the clouds, leading to unknown destinations.
Gu Su’s interest was piqued, so he simply stood on the wall, watching motionlessly.
After about fifteen minutes, the silver threads began to retract.
They were dragging something.
Something heavy. Something huge. The threads were pulled taut, reeling it in inch by inch. With every pull, the color of the sky grew a shade darker.
The dark red deepened until it was almost black. Only the silver threads still emitted a faint glow.
At the same time, an indescribable pressure bore down from the sky.
Gu Su felt as if every bone in his body was trembling. His knees uncontrollably wanted to buckle, and a voice screamed wildly in his mind.
’Kneel! Kneel now! That is an existence you cannot gaze upon! That is a Power beyond your comprehension!’
’But another voice gnashed its teeth: I’m a transmigrator! I kneel to heaven, to earth, and to my parents. Why the hell should I kneel to some damn thing I don’t even know!’
He held his ground, his fingernails digging into his palms, his teeth grinding together. The back of his shirt was soaked with cold sweat, but he simply refused to bend his knees.
He didn’t kneel, nor did he pass out.
And then he saw clearly what the silver threads were dragging back—
It was a dragon.
A massive, pitch-black Giant Dragon.
Just how massive was its body?
Standing on the wall, Gu Su couldn’t even see its entire form; he could only make out a small part of its body.
Those scales—each one as large as a house—gleamed with a cold, metallic luster under the dark red light of the sky.
The edges of the scales were as sharp as blades, their surfaces covered in fine patterns resembling some sort of ancient runes.
Its wings hung limply, the membranes riddled with countless large holes, as if torn apart by some Power, or perhaps burned straight through by the moonlight.
The Giant Dragon’s head was entangled in countless silver threads, being dragged back inch by inch. It had already completely lost all signs of life; only its wounds were still dripping with something.
That liquid traced dark red arcs in the night sky, emitting a faint glow as if it were burning.
Gu Su suddenly understood. This was the source of this beast tide.
This was the culprit, killed in a single shot by the Eternal Moon.
Those golden lasers, those green-skinned Lizardmen, those cabbages, those White Scale Clan members—they all came because of it. Now that it was dead, the beast tide should be over.
He watched the Giant Dragon being dragged away, feeling a little regretful.
’Such a huge dragon. If I could just get a piece of the action, even picking up a few scales would be amazing.’
Unfortunately, this thing would definitely be claimed by the higher-ups of Ring Moon. There was no way cannon fodder like him would get a share of the spoils.
Just as he was thinking this, his gaze suddenly froze.
In the sky, a drop of liquid broke free from the Giant Dragon’s wound, tracing a parabola as it fell directly toward him.
The drop of liquid grew larger and closer, carrying a strong, sweet, metallic scent.
It left a dark red trail in the night sky, like a miniature meteor, heading straight for his defensive sector.
Gu Su didn’t have time to dodge, nor could he have dodged it anyway.
And so, that drop of Dragon Blood smashed right into his defensive sector.
