Chapter 170: Chapter 169: Snatching the Corpse

Behind Gu Su, the Black Fog churned. Five plumes of it burst open in succession, and five off-road vehicles shot out of the mist, coming to a steady stop in the open space inside the wall.

This was the entirety of the Five Ghosts Combat Team that Gu Su could currently deploy: two squads of Elite Skeletons, two squads of Walking Dead, and one Magic Series squad, all mixed together.

Gu Su strode over to the Undead. He took the glass bottles filled with poison from a nearby Corpse Witch and pressed them into their hands, one by one.

"Everyone take one bottle." His voice was fast and urgent. "Remember, throw them right over the enemies’ heads! Aim for the densest part of the crowd! After you throw, retreat immediately. Do not get bogged down in a fight!"

The Undead silently took the poison bottles. Some held them in their hands, while others tucked them into their belts.

The five Magic Skeletons stuffed the poison bottles into their robes, freeing their hands to cast Spells.

"Get in the vehicles!"

The five off-road vehicles started their engines simultaneously. The Black Fog churned once more, swallowing their forms as they vanished from inside the wall.

The next second, the Black Fog erupted outside the wall, and the five vehicles appeared like phantoms at the edge of the Lizardman tide.

The lead off-road vehicle sped along the edge of the enemy horde. An Elite Skeleton Warrior on board wound up its arm and hurled the poison bottle in its hand with all its might.

The glass bottle smashed into the dense crowd of Lizardmen and instantly shattered. The liquid inside sprayed out and, upon contact with the air, immediately turned into a cloud of eerie purple smoke.

The smoke spread rapidly, engulfing an area of more than ten meters in the blink of an eye.

The Lizardmen swallowed by the smoke immediately began to stumble. Some started coughing violently, while others collapsed outright, their limbs convulsing.

The Lizardmen behind them charged into the smoke, only to meet the same fate, collapsing one after another into a pile.

The second and third off-road vehicles followed close behind, launching a succession of poison bottles. Clouds of dark green, grayish-white, and purplish-black smoke erupted, tearing gaps in the green tide.

The Walking Dead Warriors were stronger and threw farther. Their poison bottles landed deep within the enemy horde, the resulting smoke enveloping even more foes.

The fifth vehicle, carrying the Magic Skeletons, didn’t throw poison bottles. Instead, they cast Spells directly. Several globes of Acidic Liquid and Ice Arrows rained down, coordinating with the Poisonous Fog to finish off the Lizardmen already staggering from the toxic fumes.

The Five Ghosts Combat Team sped along the edge of the horde, hurling one poison bottle after another. In just two minutes, they had thrown at least thirty bottles of poison. In the areas blanketed by smoke, the bodies of Lizardmen piled up into small hills.

But they couldn’t possibly envelop the entire tide.

There were too many Lizardmen. They bypassed the areas covered in poisonous smoke and continued to surge toward the wall from both sides.

Meanwhile, the poisonous smoke itself was gradually being dispersed by the wind. As its concentration thinned, some Lizardmen were already staggering out, clutching their mouths and noses.

"Withdraw!" Gu Su roared at the distant vehicles.

The five off-road vehicles didn’t hesitate. A swirl of Black Fog enveloped them, and they vanished on the spot.

The next second, they reappeared inside the wall. The Undead leaped from the vehicles. Some had greenish-blue bodily fluids on their Bone Swords, others had a few shallow scratches on their bodies, but all of them had made it back alive.

Gu Su had no time to tally his losses, because the Lizardmen had already reached the base of the wall.

Twenty meters.

Fifteen meters.

Ten meters.

The Lizardmen at the very front began jabbing upward with their crude Wooden Spears. The spear tips were too blunt, leaving only white marks on the vines covering the wall’s surface. But they didn’t care. If one couldn’t break through, two would try; if two failed, then ten would.

The Lizardmen behind them climbed onto the shoulders of those in front, attempting to form a living ladder to scale the wall.

"Bone Ash!" Gu Su turned and roared. "Take your men and circle around from the flank!"

Gu Su pointed to a relatively sparse area on the left side of the battlefield. "Snatch the corpses! All I want are the corpses, understand?"

’A melee is about to start, and Gu Su’s Undead Team will suffer heavy losses,’ Bone Ash immediately understood. ’He needs a large number of corpses to replenish his forces.’

The source for a large number of corpses was simple—right there in front of them. It was just a matter of whether they dared to go and take them.

Without a word, he turned and leaped onto a pickup truck. Five pickups charged directly into the Black Fog, appearing at the rear of the battlefield.

At that position, the five pickups screeched to a halt. Skeletons leaped from the truck beds, rushing toward the part of the battlefield where few living things remained.

They were incredibly fast, immediately picking up corpses and tossing them into the back of the pickups.

One, two, three—

The truck beds filled up quickly. Some Skeletons climbed onto the trucks to stack the corpses higher and higher.

Those behind kept tossing more bodies onto the trucks. Some corpses were too heavy, requiring two Skeletons to carry one, staggering back to the vehicles.

Bone Ash scanned his surroundings. The distant Lizardmen seemed to have noticed the commotion, and a few had already started running in their direction.

"Go!" he roared.

The Skeletons scrambled onto the trucks. The five pickups started up again, carving an arc through the ruins before charging into the Black Fog. With another jump, they vanished from the Lizardmen’s sight.

Meanwhile, back at the wall, the enemy had already begun to climb. The Skeletons in the watchtowers had started stabbing at them with Spine Spears. Gu Su, with what little Mana he had left, aimed at the cluster of green heads swarming at the base of the wall.

Subordinate Corpse Explosion.

’No need to aim, no need to choose. The ground below is littered with corpses; I could point in any direction with my eyes closed and not miss.’

BANG!

The corpse of a Lizardman that had just fallen moments ago exploded, flinging greenish-blue bodily fluids and shredded flesh everywhere. The blast sent seven or eight living Lizardmen flying.

The shockwave from the explosion blasted the climbing living ladder to pieces. Several Lizardmen halfway up the wall screamed as they fell.

BANG! BANG!

Two more corpses detonated simultaneously. This time, it was the remains of Bone Dogs.

Shards of white bone flew in all directions, sweeping toward the surrounding Lizardmen with immense force. A few were pierced through the eye by bone fragments and fell to the ground, writhing and clutching their faces.

Gu Su’s Spells came faster and faster, his finger constantly changing direction. With every point, a corpse exploded. With every explosion, a small patch of enemies fell.

The explosions rose and fell, so dense they almost merged into a single, continuous roar, playing a symphony of death in the night sky.

There were so many Lizardmen below that he didn’t need to worry about running out of corpses to use.

But Gu Su’s Mana was nowhere near enough. He was only Level 2, and his Mana was quickly running out.

"Corpse Witches!" he yelled, finding a spare moment. "Poison Gas Bombs! Don’t stop!"

The four Corpse Witches had been standing just inside the wall, with seven or eight bottles and jars still hanging from their waists. Hearing the command, they immediately twisted off the caps, shook the bottles vigorously, then wound up and hurled them over the wall.

The glass bottles traced several arcs through the air, landing in the most densely packed area of Lizardmen.

BANG! BANG! BANG! The bottles exploded, and dark green smoke instantly billowed out. The smoke was so thick it seemed alive, spreading with incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, it had enveloped a large area at the base of the wall.

The Lizardmen engulfed by the Poisonous Fog began to cough violently. Some collapsed on the spot, their limbs convulsing as yellowish-green liquid flowed from their mouths and noses.

The Lizardmen behind them tried to charge in, but they staggered back the moment they touched the smoke. This poison was even more potent than what the Five Ghosts Combat Team had used.

Smoke and explosions took turns erupting at the base of the wall, finally suppressing the Lizardmen’s assault for a brief moment.

It was at this moment that the five pickup trucks rushed back inside the wall.

Bone Ash leaned out from a truck bed and yelled up, "Sir! The corpses!"

Gu Su looked down and saw five truck beds filled to the brim with corpses.

"Bring them in!" he roared. "Prioritize making Bone Dogs!"
