Chapter 159: Chapter 158: Something’s Wrong Next Door

"My lord."

The moment Gu Su approached the Decaying Throne, Alice spotted him.

His gaze swept over Alice, who was seated upon the throne. Without any pleasantries, Gu Su got straight to the point. "Alice, what’s the status of the watch at the Watchtower?

Anything unusual to report?"

Alice gave a slight nod, her clear eyes filled with earnestness as she replied in a firm tone, "Reporting, my lord. The Decaying Throne is operating normally. There are no anomalies at present."

Hearing this, Gu Su asked another question. "Since everything is normal, are there any improvements needed for the Watchtower?

Or any details you think could be optimized?"

Alice shook her head gently, her tone crisp. "None that I can see!

The Watchtower’s current observation range is perfectly adequate for our watch duties. There’s nothing that needs improving."

Gu Su understood immediately. ’It seems Alice hasn’t fully mastered the Watchtower yet, nor has she sensed anything wrong with it.’

’Let alone suggest any upgrades. Pressing her further right now would be pointless.’

He suppressed the thought and said no more, turning to leave and check on other areas.

But just as he took a step, Alice suddenly raised her hand and pointed toward a distant direction, her voice taking on a grave tone.

"My lord, something’s not right over there."

Hearing this, Gu Su immediately stopped and followed her slender finger with his gaze, which landed directly on the adjacent defense sector in the distance.

Through a light haze of smoke and dust, he could faintly see a strange ripple on the skyline. A vague, chaotic noise seemed to drift through the air—clearly not the peaceful scene of a routine watch.

The next second, the dull, dense sound of intermittent cannon fire pierced the air, reaching their ears clearly.

The sound was frantic and chaotic, mixed with the shrill screech of tearing Metal. It was nothing like a routine alert; instead, it sounded like the desperate struggle of a Mobile City being relentlessly suppressed and beaten back by an unknown force or enemy troops.

"Crow’s Caw, get over there and investigate immediately!"

Gu Su’s nerves tensed instantly, a sense of unease rising within him. He gave the order in a low voice, having already made a judgment.

’The neighboring sector’s defenses are probably on the verge of collapse.’

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind.

’Should I personally lead a support team over there to check it out?’

’Or should I relay this urgent news first, notifying headquarters or the surrounding defense sectors?’

He suddenly remembered that before he arrived, Lü You had given him a simple Communication device, specifically instructing him to use it to contact headquarters directly in case of an emergency.

But doubts followed. The Communication device was inherently flawed; it required sending a signal toward the sky. With battles raging and the air thick with smoke and dust, could the signal even get through the interference and reach headquarters?

Besides, the trouble was in the adjacent defense line, not his own sector. Would intervening rashly just draw fire to himself?

But if he ignored it and the neighboring line collapsed completely, the flames of war would spread to his sector, and the consequences would be unthinkable.

Gu Su stood on the wall, his brow furrowed and his expression hesitant. For a moment, he found it difficult to make a decision.

Amid his standoff with indecision, a violent explosion suddenly erupted from the direction of the adjacent sector. The roar was deafening, and even from such a great distance, they could feel a faint tremor in the ground.

Immediately after, a frantic and anxious broadcast cut through the sky, echoing across the empty battlefield.

"Attention, Defense forces of Southeast Defense Line Sector 70 and Southeast Defense Line Sector 72!

Southeast Defense Line Sector 71 has been breached! Subsequent support and Defense forces are not yet in position. The two nearest sector commanders are ordered to advance and temporarily take over the Defense of Southeast Defense Line Sector 71!"

Hearing the broadcasted order, the weight on Gu Su’s heart finally lifted. The hesitation on his face vanished instantly, replaced by decisiveness.

’Good. No more agonizing over whether to advance or retreat. I just need to follow orders. This way, I won’t be overstepping my bounds, and I can prevent the war from spreading to my sector.’

He delayed no longer. While quickly maneuvering the Graveyard Demon to move slowly toward the direction of the explosion, he decisively issued a command, dispatching all three of his Spirit Communication-enhanced vans.

Each van carried a complete Undead Squad. The three of them stirred up a cloud of Black Fog and charged directly into the distance.

After all, given the current situation, Gu Su couldn’t wait for Crow’s Caw to return from its reconnaissance. The battlefield was changing by the second. The sooner he reached the defense line, the sooner he could assess the situation, seize the initiative, and respond to any unexpected developments.

However, Gu Su’s Graveyard Demon was massive. Limited by the Level of its Earth-Binding Vein and its method of movement, its speed was not particularly fast, covering only three thousand meters per hour.

At that speed, it would take over two hours to reach Southeast Defense Line Sector 71.

By the time the Graveyard Demon got there, the battle would likely have been over for a long time.

Therefore, even though he knew it was somewhat of a waste, Gu Su had to dispatch his mobile forces.

But the three vans, modified with the Five Ghosts Spirit Communication technique, moved with exceptional speed. Within the Black Fog, they shot forward like bolts of lightning.

Gu Su had barely issued the command before they were already approaching Southeast Defense Line Sector 71.

So Gu Su wasn’t concerned that he himself wouldn’t make it in time.

Just then, Crow’s Caw flew back with its subordinates.

Meanwhile, at Southeast Defense Line Sector 71, the situation was extremely perilous.

A three-story small Mobile Castle, the same type Gu Su had seen on the Doomsday Plain, had been toppled over. Its walls were shattered, its Metal twisted, and its wreckage scattered everywhere. The pungent smell of gunpowder and burnt Metal filled the air.

A horde of agile, ferocious-looking Lizardmen, their bodies covered in dark purple scales, were brandishing their sharp claws and frantically tearing apart the castle’s remains. Their roars mingled with the sound of snapping Metal, creating a chaotic and dangerous scene.

They carried no weapons, but their claws were more powerful than any weapon.

The iron plating used to build the small Mobile Castle was torn to shreds by their forceful claws.

The player inside the small Mobile Castle hadn’t even had a chance to escape before being dragged out and impaled on the Lizardmen’s claws.

By the time the three vans arrived, the battle was almost over.

The now-idle Lizardmen looked at the approaching vans, a flicker of disdain in their eyes.

The vans, however, did not stop because of the Lizardmen. When Gu Su had dispatched them, he had handed over command of the battle to the Minions in each of the three vehicles.
