Chapter 144 - Monologues
Inside the room.
Zhenyi was spread out on the vast bed, under a white sheet, and comatose. She looked extra pale and extremely peaceful like she was in one of those slumbers which carried nothing but sweet dreams and promises of a better future like the dark night had passed, and tomorrow there would be a new morning. The sun of hope and prosperity would rise again.
The oxygen mask was helping her to breathe, tubes were connected to her head and a drip was poked into her arm. It was such an absurd condition, the woman who would die before accepting any aid was connected to machines to support her life.
A nurse was checking her vital signs and another noting something on her notepad as a figure approach approached Zhenyi.
"Master," they greeted and Ryuu held up his hand to stop them. He was in no mood to hear their greeting especially when his simple orders were not followed.
"Where is the doctor?" Ryuu asked furiously. He just went out for a second and the doctors left her unattended. Didn't he order the doctors not to leave her alone even for a nanosecond? How dare they went against his orders?
He marched furiously towards the door and when he was about to open the door and unleash his anger at the doctors a voice stopped him.
"Master!" the voice belonged to his assistant and Right-hand man. He came towards Ryuu and said," Master, please you can't go out."
His master was furious beyond limitation. It was rare to see Ryuu in temper. No normal person was capable enough to trigger Ryuu's anger.
"Please," his assistant said again, though his expressions were as cold as an iceberg, but his eyes shone with pleading.
"I told them not to leave my sister's side even for a second," Ryuu yelled in anger but thankfully the room was soundproof. "Didn't I make it clear before? Then who allowed them to leave this room?"
"Please let me handle this, Master. I won't give you a chance to complain." the assistant said and left the same way he entered the room. He jumped out of the window to carry out his orders.
His assistant couldn't blame him for his outrage; it had drained and exhausted him just to watch. He must feel zapped of all energy and frustration right now. He was a little numb and startled himself.
His Master's sister was his life. He knew to what he would be willing to exact the revenge for her. Xin Ryuu would retaliate and they must be prepared for it.
Ryuu sighed and sat on the chair near Zhenyi's bed. He looked at her again. Her head was wrapped in white bandages, her hands and arms were burned and so they were draped with dressing. He wondered how many internal injuries she had, he was all aware of external ones because he had seen those getting nursed with his eyes.
The sight of wounds on her body was unbearable even for a person like Ryuu who had killed uncountable people in his life. But he never killed any innocent, only those who deserved his bullet.
He had heard about her miscarriage. To say he was shocked would be an understatement. Were She has Long Jie trying to have a child? He knew it was too soon since they married almost a month earlier but he couldn't say anything in their case because his sister was the most unpredictable and random person on this planet and if one day she randomly said that she wanted a kid, he would not be surprised, he was just too used to her personality.
His heart was running a marathon in his chest seeing his sister's condition. Only he knew how he reached the room but he just couldn't leave his sister with doctors and disappear again. He was not allowed to roam freely in this mansion that's why he called his team instead of his father's and they knew him by his own identity not the son of Xin Yichen or the brother of Xin Zhenyi. He had his own identity which was far more weighted and respected than the two mob families of Beijing.
That's what Ryuu called the two families: mob families of Beijing, who didn't have any real goal other than disturbing people's peaceful lives and fighting against each other for something they couldn't recall at all.
What happened to Zhenyi was the symbol of the arrival of a new hurricane in their lives! The great enemy was back and he was persistent in killing her as he failed to kill her years ago. The Xin family would end with her demise and so Xins had more enemies than Longs.
"I will not let anyone hurt you again, Angel. Years ago, I was weak and I couldn't protect you and mom but I promise you that this time I will never let anyone touch you or your family," said Ryuu as he took a deep breath and continued. "I'm strong now, certainly not more than Almighty God but stronger than the enemy. If he thinks he can weaken us by eliminating you, he is wrong. He is very, very wrong. He has to cross me before reaching you."
The sound of beeping filling him with gratefulness that his sister was alive and breathing the same air he was now. Though she was supported by the oxygen mask now, soon she would be able to breathe on her own.
"Do you know your husband won't sit still now? He had been evading this war for years. Such a peace-loving man you got." He chuckled at his own joke and when he saw her closed eyes. Sadness dawned in his eyes." I'm not kidding. He won't let them get away unscathed after hurting you. You may not know but you are his bottom line. He can do anything for you. And today, he proved it. He abandoned his greatest fears for you."
Ryuu rolled his eyes at her as if she was hearing him talk and said, "Before you ask, how I know so much about him. Do you really think I'll let you marry any guy? Long or not. He has to be the right one for you. Surely, the tactic Bà and his father took was not very appealing, but I let it pass knowing that their intentions were good."
"But you were no less, the stunt you pulled after the engagement. You really think I will not notice it. I'll let it slide because it was your first mistake, Angel but you are no one to hurt your husband. Test him all you want, but don't you dare put his or your own life in danger again," admonished Ryuu. "Silly, your plan could have backfired and you could have hurt yourself instead of Sam. Poor best friend of yours, he didn't even know the best friend he was trying to be the hero for was the real mastermind behind the scenes. "
If Zhenyi thought her ultra super plan was not known by anyone then she was mistaken. Very much so. Ryuu had a feeling that she would be planning something against her in-laws given her hate for the Long family.
He would not admit but his sister was an awesome actor if one day her mafia gig failed, she could definitely succeed as an actress in China. He was secretly proud of her plan too but mostly he was upset with it.
"I don't want to engage in monologues anymore, Angel. Wake up soon so that we can have a lengthy chat. I promise I won't leave the country again to avoid grandfather. Wake up, sis, and save your brother from the traps that our dear grandfather is laying for me. I have a very bad feeling about it," Ryuu said in a low voice.
He stood up and softly kiss her head. " I'll be here and there. Get well soon. We all are waiting for you."
Ryuu jumped out of the window like a gust of wind. The nurses looked at the empty seat beside Zhenyi and them at each other. Surely, he was there sitting beside the patient a few seconds ago. He was talking to her but they couldn't hear it. They didn't dwell on it for long and went back to their work.
"Master!" His assistant appeared behind him out of nowhere. Indeed, he taught him well. His assistant was finally catching up with his godly skills.
Ryuu sat on the periphery of the great fountain and took in the mesmerizing view of the garden where he spent his childhood with his family. The garden was his and his mom's place. Their sanctuary. He smiled as he recalled the pranks his mom had pulled on his father in the same garden. And he was his mom's accomplice.
What happened to his home? No matter how much he wanted to hold it together, he just couldn't. Was he failing his mom? No. It couldn't be. He could bear anything but not another failure.
