the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1506 - 1496: Aren’t You Being a Little Too Selfish Toward Her?
Chloe Winston naturally wouldn’t stay at the neighbor’s house for dinner, let alone ask the elderly to prepare some dishes to go with drinks.
"Should I go home and let someone bring over a Ming Dynasty red glaze?" Constantine Stewart glanced at the stern old man, then at the beautiful and lovely young wife, and instantly decided to head home and dine with the young lady.
"Your family really has that, and not just one?" Mr. Zhao was pained, almost beating his chest in frustration. This young man is really squandering treasures, treating such valuable things casually as if they were nothing.
"It should be there, right? When it’s brought over, you’ll authenticate it." Constantine Stewart stood up and spoke, slowly explaining that there were so many collectibles, he remembered there was a pair at home. To quickly disengage from the situation, he planned to send one over to divert the old man’s attention.
Mr. Zhao was completely captivated by the Ming Dynasty red glaze, nodding like a pecking hen, forgetting to invite the young people to dinner.
"Make sure to send it over quickly; I’ll be waiting at home," Mr. Zhao said eagerly.
Constantine Stewart nodded, his lips curling slightly upward. Upon exiting the courtyard, seeing Chloe Winston’s frosty demeanor, his smile stiffened, and he lightly coughed a few times before saying, "I just came over to visit."
Chloe Winston exploded instantly, sneering, "You don’t live here, what kind of visit are you making? This is the only place I live in. When your rumors spread all over, are you planning for me to move out?"
The house at Spring Prosperity Garden can’t be sold off; it’s a welfare house that can mostly be inherited, so Chloe Winston’s house can’t be sold. Even if it could be, the procedures would be complicated.
Constantine Stewart’s face changed slightly when he saw she was genuinely angry, furrowing his brows, wondering if he really overdid it? The man coldly glanced at Finnian; with an outsider present, he certainly wouldn’t apologize.
"Mr. Stewart has incredible means, power, and influence, always controlling the narrative, not bothered by gossip. However, doing this damages Chloe Winston’s reputation significantly. Are you overly selfish in romance if you use any means necessary to achieve your goals?" Finnian said with a faint smile, each word striking deeply.
Finnian’s words made Constantine Stewart’s face turn iron blue, unable to refute. Initially, he was just joking; after all, he’d marry only Chloe Winston in the future. If the young lady was upset, he could coax her, apologize and the matter would pass. But after Finnian pointed it out, he was clearly of the selfish and self-serving type.
"Move back today," Chloe Winston coldly threw out this line and headed towards the small villa.
Finnian also smiled and nodded at him, then followed along.
Constantine Stewart irritably scratched his head, his bangs falling forward, briefly darkening his fair and scholarly demeanor. Finnian’s stab was sharp, exact, and swift.
Constantine Stewart called, instructing Zheng Gu to retrieve a pair of Ming Dynasty red glaze bowls, then reflected on matters in the community before returning to Chloe Winston’s villa, thinking of all the ways to apologize and make concessions. Yet upon returning home, discovering Chloe Winston was gone, his furrowed brows knitted tightly.
"Zheng, go check Finnian’s place and see if Chloe Winston is there."
Zheng Gu, who was there to deliver the porcelain bowls, was pulled aside by the old guy in Building 15, whose eyes lit up like a wolf spotting a lamb. In the end, that old man snatched his porcelain bowl, sitting in the yard studying with a magnifying glass, acting as if Zheng didn’t exist.
Zheng Gu was speechless, changing course to Finnian’s place, surreptitiously peeking about, indeed sighting Chloe Winston busy – one cooking, one reading.
"Mr. Stewart, she’s at Finnian’s," Zheng Gu quickly reported back at Building 8, asking, "Want me to call Miss Winston?"
"Let’s go back," Constantine Stewart said somberly, then got up and started walking out.
Back home? Not searching further?
Zheng Gu paused briefly, then swiftly followed.
"Any upcoming business trips?" Constantine Stewart asked coldly after getting into the car, his handsome face stern.
"Yes," Zheng Gu responded quickly, flipping open the itinerary. Since Mr. Stewart became occupied chasing around his ex-wife all day, the itinerary felt virtually meaningless. Fortunately, the group has a mature operational system, with Mr. Stewart just steering the group’s direction.
"Anywhere you’d like to go for a business trip? There are business dealings everywhere from America Land to Africa," Zheng Gu picked out the more important ones to mention.
"Anywhere." The man coldly tossed out two words, feeling since Chloe Winston disliked him so much, he might as well go on a trip and take some time to cool off. Surely, no other man would suit her better than him?
Constantine Stewart thought of those buzzing around like bees, getting restless, and decided to go skiing to calm down.
Constantine Stewart was on a business trip, away for several days without appearing before Chloe Winston, until his skiing trip in the Alps Mountains was reported, letting Chloe Winston know he had gone abroad. This way, with Chloe Winston staying in the country filming, prior speculations of them secretly married and cohabiting were naturally dispelled.
After resting for two days, Chloe Winston returned to the set to continue filming. Due to the previous kidnapping incident, the whole crew had heightened vigilance, with Qiu sticking close 24 hours. After a tense week of filming, the crew finally wrapped up.
Chloe Winston didn’t attend the wrap party; after collecting her pay, she returned to the school. Because of her unique situation, she didn’t rehearse with her classmates. Instead, Chloe Winston used her films as assignments for school, and the school adjusted accordingly, considering her identity.
Regarding backing out from the entertainment circle, according to Kyla Zamora’s advice, they wouldn’t say anything for now, gradually fading out of public view, officially announcing a long rest.
After handling these trivial matters and coordinating next year’s graduation projects, Chloe Winston packed her luggage at home, and quietly departed Imperial City, seizing the opportunity while Constantine Stewart was still abroad, with her first stop being Stewart Village in Anfield County, her parents’ ancestral home.
Stewart Village is where her grandmother was sent as an educated youth, and her grandfather was a native. Eventually, the family relocated, taking everything with them, roots and all.
Chloe Winston took a high-speed train then a car to Stewart Village, which had developed into a tourist town. She stayed in the town for two nights, discovering the traces recorded in the materials were no longer found. The old Stewart homes had been demolished, as no one had returned for years, everything handed over to the state.
Moreover, burials were not allowed in the town, leading Chloe Winston to buy a plot in the town’s Mausoleum Site, building a cenotaph for her deceased parents, erecting a blank tombstone, then making offerings before departing south.
After Constantine Stewart was away on business for half a month, he returned thinking that Chloe Winston’s anger should have subsided, only to discover she was gone, making his heart, liver, and lungs ache with fury.
