Chapter 1502 - 1492: Did You Buy These Clothes for Me?

Chloe Winston’s scenes had reached their final stage, and in another week, they’d wrap up.

It was already the end of October, as late autumn turned chilly.

The next afternoon, Lady Thompson came to pick her up, driving over to take her shopping.

"Although the Imperial City doesn’t have great air, its cultural environment is excellent, unlike the lifestyle in Paris." Lady Thompson remarked, looking at the bustling traffic, the iconic ancient architecture, and the busy crowds outside the window, "No wonder Constantine stayed here for six or seven years."

"Is there anything you’d like to buy and bring back this time?" Chloe looked at the exquisite and graceful Lady Thompson, noticing how she always lived with such elegance, as did Constantine. Even when lounging lazily at home, that man merely added a touch of languor and charm without losing any of his inherent nobility and elegance.

She’d read a saying before: If you are fortunate enough to have lived in Paris, afterwards, wherever you go, Paris will stay with you. Her sister Delphine had also lived in Paris, possessing a naturally captivating allure.

The first man she encountered in her youth was someone like Constantine, and thereafter, it seemed difficult for her to have feelings for anyone else.

Chloe laughed to herself, brushing away the random thoughts from her mind. As she grew up, she realized that always focusing on one man only made life more narrow.

"This time, just some local snacks from the Imperial City will do." Lady Thompson chuckled, "And I’d like to shop a bit, winter is approaching, and I’ve heard it gets very cold here, I want to buy some winter items for Constantine. Help me pick them."

Chloe nodded, although Constantine, come winter, resembles hibernation and rarely goes out; there’s central heating installed over at Fulham Road, making it feel like spring indoors. But since Lady Thompson wants to buy him something, she should. If her own mother were to buy her personal items, she’d feel warmth inside too.

As Chloe grew up in the Imperial City and was quite the wild child, she intimately knew which local specialties were tasty, where they were most authentic and cheapest. First, she led Lady Thompson through street alleys to a local specialty mall, buying an abundance of specialties, then accompanied her to the mall.

Chloe picked out a large teal coat and a scarf for Constantine, and then went to women’s clothing with Lady Thompson.

"It’s been ages since I enjoyed shopping so liberally." After an afternoon and night of camaraderie, the two were initially reserved but later Lady Thompson hooked her arm around Chloe’s, smiling warmly, "In Paris, I had to maintain my status, and our circle are those who shop without batting an eye, lacking much fun. Shopping should be about browsing and bargaining."

Chloe found her words amusing; indeed, over the evening her impression of the lady improved a lot. Although inherently picky, she had to maintain an elegant demeanor, making her quite endearing.

Chloe didn’t have many friends; having been taken in by Constantine as a minor, accompanied by such a man naturally meant no female friends. Plus, growing up poor, she seldom went shopping, making the evening quite enjoyable.

"If I had a daughter, every spring, summer, autumn, and winter I’d definitely take her to buy clothes and essentials, watching her grow like a small sprout." Lady Thompson gazed at the girl’s obedient appearance, reflecting, "Chloe, if you have the chance, come visit me in Paris, I’ll take you through its twenty districts."

"Sure." Chloe cheerfully nodded, just as Constantine called.

"Still shopping?" The man stood by the fountain in the square, wearing a white shirt, looking like a jade-faced gentleman, attracting the attention of passing girls.

"Almost done." Seeing Lady Thompson gesturing them to head back, she noticed it was past ten; indeed, it was time to leave.

"Alright, I’m waiting by the fountain in the square." Constantine finished, hanging up, without mentioning he had been waiting all night. After all, being alone at home was boring, so he came out early to wait.

As Chloe arrived, she searched for the fountain in the expansive square and soon saw the man standing in the most noticeable spot, surrounded by a group of admiring girls. His handsome face was expressionless, listening to a street musician playing guitar and singing by the fountain, exuding a chill aura within a ten-meter radius.

Seeing the street musician frequently glance at Constantine, looking as nervous as if giving a concert, Chloe couldn’t help but chuckle—this man truly is the center of attention wherever he goes.

She walked over, lightly tapping Constantine’s shoulder, and softly laughed, "Enjoying the music?"

Constantine turned to see her standing in the soft square lighting, amidst the glow of a thousand household lights, smiling radiantly and flower-like. His gaze deepened, and he laughed gravely, "Not as good as the music festival in the open-air park back then, but quite nice."

What was nice was, at this place he could wait for the girl he adored. Constantine pulled out an assistant’s business card from his wallet and placed it in the street musician’s cowboy hat where money went.

With time dragged out, surrounded by many women, the various perfume scents filled his nose, causing agitation. Luckily there was still music.

Constantine’s gaze fell on the girl’s fair, smooth face, reached out to take her hand with gentle eyes, and laughed, "Let’s go home."

In the square were many pretty girls who waited long but dared not come forward to approach; they suddenly stamped their feet in frustration, realizing he wasn’t available after all.

The street musician saw that the person who listened to his songs all night and clung on without leaving gave no money but just left a business card. His face went green until he saw the card’s details clearly, whereupon he excitedly tucked it carefully into his shirt pocket, packed up, and went home for skewers.

"Why do you always carry Zheng Gu’s business card?"

"Because he’s available."

"Why’d you give the street musician your business card?"

"He plays well; I’m gifting him a park concert."

"Chloe, without a cap or mask, aren’t you worried about fans recognizing you?"

Chloe: ...

She’d forgotten.

Upon arriving at the Fulham Road private residence, Chloe noticed the living room filled with all sorts of bags. Ladies Thompson’s lifestyle assistant had just delivered them, smiling as they departed.

"Did you buy all this?" Constantine casually glanced, noticing men’s clothing, causing his lazy phoenix eyes to faintly smile.

"A small part." The men’s clothing and scarf purchased for Constantine were indeed charged to her card, as repayment for Lady Thompson’s life-saving kindness. But everything else wasn’t; alarmingly, the majority was bought for her.

Constantine lowered his gaze, noticing the receipt inside the teal coat was signed under Chloe Winston’s name, his lips involuntarily curving upward.

"The color’s so-so; I’ll just wear it." Raising his eyebrows, he tried to hold back the smile creeping up, casually saying, "I like dark navy blue colors, remember next time?"

Chloe: ???
