the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1482 - 1472: The Legendary Countess
Chloe Winston was stunned to find the lady speaking to her so warmly and intimately. Wasn’t this lady especially close to Luo Yiren?
Chloe instinctively glanced at Constantine Stewart. Among the mother and son, she naturally sided with Constantine. The lady appeared elegant and poised; she truly didn’t seem like the type to mistreat a child. Had she not learned the truth from Leah Squire, she might have been deceived.
Unconsciously, Chloe grew a bit wary of Lady Thompson but managed a polite smile without saying anything.
Constantine was cold from beginning to end, all traces of his usual lazy indifference gone.
"Madam, let’s sit down and talk." Luo Yiren forced a stiff smile on the side. She felt anxious visiting this private residence on Fulham Road; Constantine’s previous warning still echoed in her ears. If she hadn’t been accompanying Lady Thompson, she wouldn’t have dared set foot here.
Yet seeing Lady Thompson’s warm demeanor towards Chloe, alarms rang in Luo Yiren’s mind. Right now, Lady Thompson was her only support. She had shared everything about Constantine with Lady Thompson in detail. How could the lady be so amiable with Chloe?
Luo Yiren’s face turned a bit pale, feeling that things weren’t unfolding as she had hoped.
Lady Thompson was indifferent to Constantine’s demeanor. She sat on the sofa and said to Chloe, "I was overly abrupt the other day, wanting to invite you for coffee. But it’s truly delightful to see you here today. Ah-Chu, are you staying here now?"
Chloe was momentarily speechless at the intimacy of being called Ah-Chu, suddenly feeling that it indeed runs in the family—this natural familiarity and dominance.
"Staying here for a while," Chloe said vaguely, avoiding any respectful titles, lest she provoke Constantine.
"Yes, this place originally belongs to the Stewart Family. My first husband was particularly fond of this house, always talking about bringing our son here for summer and winter breaks. Ah-Chu, could you show me around? I haven’t been back in years and would like to see the old house," Lady Thompson smiled.
"No." Constantine spoke coldly, his handsome face under a layer of ice, looking at Chloe and motioning for her to sit beside him.
Initially, the two sat opposite each other. After Lady Thompson and Luo Yiren arrived, they sat on Chloe’s side, which displeased the man internally.
Chloe got up, holding her script and phone, moving to the other side, choosing not to sit close to Constantine. Thus, she seemed like an observer, distancing herself from the scene.
"Winter, has your leg injury healed?" Lady Thompson seemed accustomed to her son’s poor disposition. Seeing the young lady silently avoid them, she turned to Constantine.
Constantine did not lower his eyes or acknowledge her; instead, he elegantly bent his long leg and turned his arrogant, leisurely gaze to Luo Yiren, coldly saying, "Miss Luo, I believe I made myself clear last time. Or did you think I was merely speaking?"
Luo Yiren’s face shifted slightly, his voice was extremely calm, but the cold aura surrounding him made her feel as though her blood was freezing.
"Mr. Stewart, I only came with the madam," Luo Yiren stood up, not daring to sit any longer, casting a pleading look towards Lady Thompson.
Lady Thompson smiled without speaking.
Sweat broke out on Luo Yiren’s forehead. She looked at Lady Thompson in disbelief; the lady had just invited her shopping yesterday and specifically asked the media to cover it. She thought the lady acknowledged her, only to realize upon arriving at Fulham Road that she might have made a mistake.
Since the last time she angered Constantine, Luo Yiren knew that path was impassable. While the man possessed a captivating appearance and immense wealth and power, he was also unpredictable and ruthless. Luo Yiren wasn’t a naive girl; in her creed, interests always came before emotions.
She, too, had been charmed by Constantine but quickly came to her senses upon seeing his cold indifference and swiftly cozied up to Lady Thompson. If she developed a relationship with the lady, she might rise to the top and mingle with high society in France.
She thought she had considered everything, not realizing that the relationship between Lady Thompson and Constantine was extremely poor—poor to the extent that Lady Thompson seemed to accommodate Constantine unconditionally.
Now, she found herself out of favor everywhere.
Constantine sneered, picked up his phone, and made a call, instructing coolly, "Inform Starshine Media to terminate the contract with Luo Yiren, and spread the word to blacklist her completely."
Luo Yiren’s face turned ashen as she collapsed onto the sofa, looking at the cold, handsome man, then at Chloe, who sat holding her script, pampered. She bit her lip hard, feeling as though the world was collapsing. No, she must not fall; she cannot let Chloe laugh at her. Even if it means death, they will die together.
Instantly, Luo Yiren’s eyes turned red as she choked out tearfully, "Mr. Stewart, I just came with the madam. Please, don’t blacklist me. Madam, please, say something for me. I didn’t do it intentionally."
Luo Yiren tightly grasped Lady Thompson’s hand, pleading.
Lady Thompson remained unusually calm, observing the sobbing Luo Yiren. Her gaze drifted past her to Chloe on the other side. Seeing the young girl’s rosy face and wide, dark eyes filled with surprise while clutching her script, she began to understand why her son might fancy Chloe. This girl, as transparent as a blank sheet of paper, often captivated those skilled in manipulation with her simplicity and charm.
"Ah-Chu, Ah-Chu, please plead with Mr. Stewart for me." Seeing Lady Thompson remain silent, Luo Yiren’s last bit of hope instantly shattered, leaving her expression slightly distorted. Suddenly aware that this old woman had been toying with her all along, she realized that even if Constantine blacklisted her, Lady Thompson, as an earl’s wife, had the power to take her to France. Yet, she refused to utter a word.
"Ah-Chu, for the sake that we were once sisters in our younger days, are you going to watch me go to my end with open eyes?" Luo Yiren cried out in anguish.
Chloe frowned, then seeing Constantine’s cold demeanor and Lady Thompson, who was allied with Luo Yiren, saying nothing, realized how interesting these mother and son were. They once wholeheartedly supported Luo Yiren, lifting her to the Cloud Summit, and now, one wants to blacklist her, while the other watches detachedly.
She closed her script, looked at Luo Yiren, and stated coldly, "Even if Constantine blacklists you, you can switch careers and do something else. I was blacklisted once, yet I survived."
The last words caused Constantine’s face to change subtly. For some reason, his heart skipped a beat, slightly annoyed he shouldn’t have mentioned blacklisting in front of Ah-Chu. His hard work these days was all for nothing.
