"The Countess’s condition gradually improved, and she no longer struggled with the death of her first husband. She never had children afterward, and wished to mend her relationship with Constantine’s mother, as you all know. Constantine greatly resented his mother and didn’t want to remain in Paris, which is why he settled back in his homeland," Leah explained the situation briefly.

The warmth Constantine experienced growing up was probably only from his grandfather and father, which is why his first thought was to return to the Imperial City. He paid a visit to the elderly lady of the Shaw Family, which led to many events afterward.

Chloe had never imagined that Constantine’s childhood could be even more tragic than hers. Since meeting him, she had always seen him as a well-dressed and refined man. He had a very good temper, never angered easily. Apart from being scheming and emotionally detached, there wasn’t much to criticize.

During those years of marriage, he never mentioned his family or suggested introducing her to his parents-in-law. It turned out he was as solitary as she was.

Chloe thought about the recent times when the man would pull her to sit on the small open-air balcony for an hour every night, and suddenly she could feel his sense of loneliness.

Seeing the silence between the two, Leah sighed softly, "The elderly lady has always felt sorry for him over the years, saying this child has lacked warmth and love since young, having gone through so many dark experiences, yet still growing into an upright person is remarkable. His carefree attitude towards life is probably a flaw in his character, but essentially he’s a good kid, much like his father."

Delphine nodded and patted Chloe’s hand, feeling a sense of empathy. Ignatius had a brain disorder in his youth, which later led to a split personality. She understood this deeply. Now, the man treats her with nearly overwhelming affection, proving that many things are not absolute.

"I’m not saying this to defend Constantine, just to objectively tell some things, with no other intentions," Leah remarked with a smile.

"I know, thank you, Leah," Chloe replied, her voice slightly hoarse.

The three of them had said enough, and many guests had arrived outside. They had come one or two hours early to have a lively gathering. Lana and Calliope Shaw came knocking, saying quite a few people wanted to see the bride.

Chloe quickly stood up, noticing that Leah and Delphine were surrounded by people, and quietly got up to leave.

This estate was famously known as the Garden Castle in the Imperial City, filled with flourishing flowers everywhere. She didn’t know anyone, so she sat in a corner waiting for the wedding to start.

When Constantine found her, the young girl was sitting on a wooden bench, her slender figure half-hidden behind lush trees. The man took two glasses of champagne from an attendant, walked over, sat beside her, and said in a low voice, "Is being alone very boring?"

As he spoke, he handed her the champagne.

Chloe took the champagne, her gaze slightly blurred, looking at him. He remained as gentle and graceful as ever. For some unknown reason, she sighed softly, remembering how he had once casually mentioned being kidnapped and later undergoing special training, acquiring many skills.

It turned out that period was so bloody and dark.

He never spoke about his past, and over the years she knew nothing about him. Their marriage indeed could not have lasted a lifetime.

"I just went to see Leah and Delphine," Chloe murmured softly, her voice gentle like a fluffy squirrel swinging its bushy tail, every movement teasing Constantine’s heart.

"Hmm," Constantine responded lowly, taking a sip of champagne and said, "It’s good to associate with them. I trust the wives of the Shaw and Leclair Families, but be careful with others."

Now both he and Chloe had statuses that differed from ordinary people. There were many dark sides to society, and he didn’t want his young girl to encounter those, so first, she had to be careful about her friendships.

Chloe saw his calm demeanor, just as it had been during their divorce, and now he still wished to live with her, feeling somewhat powerless, furrowing her brows as she spoke, "The last time you were injured and recuperating in Paris, did Royann visit you and use the opportunity to enter Paris’s high society?"

Constantine was slightly surprised to hear her bring this up. Did Leah and Delphine mention something?

Chloe’s attitude seemed off; he came to clarify the misunderstanding caused by Griffith earlier, and the young girl hadn’t taken it to heart?

"That did happen, but I never saw her. She went and returned on her own," Constantine explained as he looked deeply at Chloe. Did she know something?

What he detested most about Royann was her clinging to that woman. In Constantine’s mind, he already considered them the most detestable women, without exception.

"I just think she’s quite capable. Like me, she grew up in a welfare institution. While I’m still struggling in the quagmire, she’s already entered Paris’s high society," Chloe remarked, not wanting to bring up what she knew about Constantine’s past, but hoping to remind him of Royann’s nature. He had torn things with Royann last time, and chances were she’d already complained to France.

The Countess had always wanted to make it up to Constantine, and Chloe felt uneasy about what might happen.

Constantine slightly curved his lips, reaching out to stroke her head. His hand stopped mid-air and didn’t come down, as he rasped softly, "Whatever you want, I can give it to you. You’re not the type to rely on others. You’re not the same as her."

As they were talking, they heard faint rustling sounds.

"Don’t squeeze Benjamin, Benjamin’s getting squished thin."

"Then I’ll hug you, so you won’t get thin."

"Daddy said not to let bad boys from outside hug."

"Little Shaw, you’re stepping on my shoe; I’m supposed to be a flower girl later," Nicholas said somewhat sulkily.

"It was Bentley stepping, he’s clumsy."

Hearing the voices of a few little ones, Chloe quickly raised her head, only to see the young master of the Shaw Family, as slender as bamboo, leading the Leclair siblings, with another two unfamiliar children squeezed together, secretly peeking at her and Constantine.

Chloe’s face suddenly flushed as if she and Constantine had done something inappropriate.

Seeing her blush, Constantine, as if charmed by her flushed cheeks resembling rouge, coughed lightly, and looked at the little ones hiding at the side. Vaguely remembering that two of them were from the Howard Family, with their chubby round heads, not as clever as the little Leclair girl. A group of kids surrounding little Benjamin was enough to nearly squash Benjamin.

Another few years, when the little girl grows up, won’t these young masters start fighting like mad?
