Chapter 1197: Chapter 1224: The All-Around Housekeeper Jiang (5)
Not being at the River Family, the two of them naturally wouldn’t think of staying in the same room.
Children Tong left the master bedroom for Camden River and tidied up the adjacent secondary bedroom for herself, storing her belongings there.
In such a spacious home, the two of them naturally appeared a bit out of place. It was just getting to dusk when they thought of going to the supermarket to stock up on some groceries and essentials.
By the time they finished shopping, it was already seven in the evening, and Camden River suggested they have dinner outside before returning home.
Unexpectedly —
Both restaurants beneath the supermarket required waiting for a table.
On a Saturday at this hour, decent restaurants were generally bustling with activity.
After waiting for just about two minutes, Camden River thought for a moment before suggesting to Children Tong, "Let’s go home to eat, we bought groceries earlier, it won’t take long to make dinner."
Eating at home?
Though it was an ordinary statement, it filled Children Tong’s ears with warmth.
She smiled and nodded in agreement.
Camden River had decent cooking skills; during his time studying abroad, his Chinese classmates who were on reasonably good terms would often come over to freeload meals at his place. He had originally bought quite a few groceries, planning to cook at home these days if he had the time.
Children Tong also had good cooking skills, but hers were formally learned.
Her interest did not lie in directing and screenwriting, so her professional course grades just stayed in the upper-middle. Over the past few years, she had learned quite a bit.
Thinking about the opportunity to cook for Camden River soon, she felt a bit excited.
Both of them were not particularly talkative, and as they walked home, their conversation mainly circled around the upcoming national exams. Camden River asked questions, and Children Tong thought about them while answering him, treating it as exam review.
Although it wasn’t the sweet affection shared between couples, the atmosphere along the way was quite harmonious and pleasant.
But —
Upon reaching the door, Camden River’s expression suddenly changed.
"Auntie."
After hesitating for a moment, he eventually greeted her.
Cherry Lewis’s indifferent gaze fell on his face, scrutinizing him for a couple seconds, and then with a disdainful expression, she glanced at Children Tong standing beside him. She quickly withdrew her gaze and asked him, "Where is Little Windsor?"
Camden River’s face stiffened, "I don’t know."
"Don’t know?" Cherry Lewis furrowed her delicate brows, looking at him with dissatisfaction, sizing him up from head to toe, and after a while, disdainfully remarked, "Ha. No wonder they say all crows under the sky are the same, Little Windsor goes missing and you show no concern, turning around you’ve already hooked up with someone else, tsk, your taste has changed, huh."
"I’ve already broken up with her; we have no ties anymore. If there’s nothing else, Auntie, we’ll go in."
"Where is Little Windsor?!" Cherry Lewis demanded harshly.
"I said I don’t know," Camden River’s temper also began to flare. Looking into her eyes, he restrained himself and responded, "I only heard she went to relax with another man, as for who exactly and where they went, I don’t know."
"Ha, so all this time that girl dumped you?"
Camden River turned his face away, saying nothing.
He had no good impression of Cherry Lewis, knowing full well that they couldn’t exchange more than three words without disagreement. However, Cherry Lewis counted as an elder, and he had no way to quarrel with her, so he could only endure listening to her cold sarcasm, hoping she’d leave soon.
But who would have thought —
Cherry Lewis suddenly raised her hand and pinched Children Tong’s face.
She had done her nails, with long, colored nails inlaid with jewels, resembling those domineering women from palace dramas. Her two fingers pinched Children Tong’s face, her eyes practically brimming with venom, full of ridicule and derision.
Camden River raised his hand to block her, only to see her suddenly withdraw her hand, sneering as she looked at him.
Camden River’s expression turned to extreme coldness as he met her gaze.
The two of them looked at each other for quite a while, and then Cherry Lewis suddenly let out a low chuckle, turned, and left.
Her two bodyguards quickly followed behind her.
Any remnants of Camden River’s good mood were entirely shattered. He stood there with his thin lips pressed into a line, and after a while, he let out a long sigh and turned to look at Children Tong.
Seeing his pale face, Children Tong softly asked, "Are you okay?"
Cherry Lewis was already fifty years old, an elder in front of both of them, making it impossible for Children Tong and Camden River to speak harshly against her, especially given Cherry Lewis’s behavior, which left the two unsure of how to respond and feeling they could only endure the grievances.
Children Tong actually didn’t feel it mattered that much, her immediate concern was only for Camden River’s well-being.
He hadn’t mentioned Windsor Myres during this time, and she hadn’t seen her. So Windsor Myres left Cloud Capital with someone else?
Ali Harris?
Children Tong thought it could be him, yet it seemed unlikely.
After all —
It was pretty clear that Windsor Myres wasn’t fond of Ali Harris, so why would she leave with him?
Maybe it was someone else?
She was momentarily lost in her wild thoughts, completely unaware of the pain on her face.
Cherry Lewis’s nails left pinched marks on each side of her cheeks, not deep, fine and short, resembling two crescent moons.
Seeing the concern on her face, Camden River felt the darkness and coldness rising within him gradually dissipate, and he softly said, "I’m fine, sorry you had to go through that."
"It’s nothing," Children Tong breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "She thinks Windsor Myres is missing, she must be very anxious. Being upset is normal, saying unpleasant things is also normal, I don’t mind."
"Mm." Camden River sighed lightly, "Let’s go inside."
The two of them entered the house, changed their shoes, and headed to the kitchen together.
Camden River picked out the things needed in the kitchen, carried the shopping bag to the living room and returned; by then, Children Tong had already put on an apron and was standing by the sink washing vegetables. Seeing him come in, she smiled and said, "I don’t know where the rice is, could you get it?"
"You know how to cook?" Camden River seemed a bit surprised.
Looking at her, she seemed very familiar with what to do in the kitchen.
Children Tong, intending to lighten the mood, tilted her head playfully and said, "Yeah, I’m all-round skilled at housework, you just wash your hands and wait to eat."
