Chapter 1156: Chapter 1183:
Maeve lay against the headboard playing a game.
The IV drip had finished, and she had eaten lunch. She was lost in thought, her mood complicated. To pass the time, she asked for Louis’s phone to play games and distract herself.
The door creaked open, and she looked up.
She saw Caiden Ward and Rosy Harris hastily approaching from a few steps away.
Caiden was young and handsome, tall with long legs, dressed in a finely crafted custom suit, exuding elegance and nobility. Compared to the more mature man in her memory, he seemed charming and graceful, his eyes sparkling with tender affection as he looked at her.
Next to him, Rosy was also young, her long hair cascading down, her fitted gray trench coat outlining her tall figure. She looked at Maeve with equal concern, though a flash of impatience flickered in her eyes.
With pursed lips, Maeve lowered her head and placed the phone by her pillow.
Her emotions were so intense that for a moment, she couldn’t speak. She needed to avert her gaze to calm herself.
"What’s going on here?"
Caiden stepped up to the bedside and softly asked her, a hint of helplessness in his tone.
Louis had mentioned on the phone that the girl was sick and had insisted on seeing him. Now that he was here, she seemed indifferent. Was she throwing a tantrum?
Caiden reached out to gently tousle her soft hair, then sat by the bed, smiling as he asked, "How are you feeling? Your uncle said you wanted me to come. I came over without even finishing my lunch. Are you still upset?"
Maeve was, of course, not angry.
How could she be angry with him?
She was simply reminded of the first time she saw Caiden after being with Ryan Quinn.
That was at the Ward Family’s place.
She and Ryan had visited together, and Caiden’s demeanor was much colder than usual. It was only during dinner that the atmosphere gradually eased. When they were about to leave, he, just like moments ago, gently patted her hair, sighing with a faint smile, "My Maeve has grown into a fine young lady."
He said "My Maeve."
Rosy stood by, and Ryan watched too. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she waved and hurriedly got into the car.
Caiden stood outside, watching them leave.
Even as the car drove quite a distance, she could still see him in the rearview mirror, standing there with Rosy, their faces gradually becoming indistinct.
What was he thinking then?
Maeve’s heart trembled, and she suddenly looked up, gazing intently at his face.
The young girl’s cheeks were slightly flushed, her lips tightly bitten, her gaze filled with inquiry, confusion, and a touch of evident sorrow. It was so complex that it caused Caiden to pause for a moment and instinctively ask, "What..."
Before he could finish, Maeve hurled herself into his arms.
Caiden was suddenly taken aback.
They had been together for more than two years, and this wasn’t the first time she had thrown herself into his arms. Yet, never before had one embrace filled him with such emotion, as if something lost had been regained.
Wasn’t it?
They hadn’t seen much of each other in two months, and he really missed her.
But—
She hadn’t reached out to him, so he’d harbored some resentment and was reluctant to check in on her. 𝐟𝑟ⅇ
Now this feeling was simply amazing.
Maeve felt it too.
She wrapped her arms tightly around Caiden’s neck, half-kneeling on the bed and clinging to him, her small face rubbing affectionately against his, despite the stubble on his chin pricking her cheeks painfully. Yet it filled her with immense excitement and happiness.
She was like an affectionate Little Cat, wholeheartedly acting spoiled.
