Chapter 1143: Chapter 1170: A Split Second Between Life and Death (11)
"Let’s go." Daniel Davis picked up the coat from the back of the chair and looked at her, saying, "Find him, then calmly listen to my proposal. I don’t want you to be distracted."
His words were based on his sufficient confidence.
Tong Tong already liked him now, and he was happy to show some generosity.
Incidentally—
This could also relieve Tong Tong’s earlier hesitations.
The two of them left the private room door, took the elevator down, and drove toward Camden River’s neighborhood.
——
Night fell, the rain grew heavier, the road was somewhat congested, but there were few pedestrians on the street.
Tong Tong kept looking out the window the whole way, even though she actually couldn’t see clearly.
Daniel Davis didn’t drive the car to the outside of Camden River’s neighborhood. Instead, after finally freeing themselves from the congested traffic, he parked the car in a parking lot outside a mall.
He opened an umbrella and walked with Tong Tong toward the neighborhood.
The wind and rain blew in, giving Tong Tong a shiver, making her extremely uneasy.
Perhaps because of the stormy night.
Or maybe just because of a girl’s innate sensitivity and worry.
She actually knew about Camden River’s father being hospitalized but held back without even a single inquiry.
At this moment, she couldn’t help but recall the past, feeling sad.
The boy she always cherished because of another girl ended up in such a dire state. This situation felt so familiar.
The last time, she was suddenly kissed and suffered through quite a long period of agony.
This time...
Tong Tong suddenly stopped in her tracks.
"What’s wrong?" Daniel Davis was taken aback.
"Let’s not go." Tong Tong looked at him and smiled, "Several classmates are looking for him; maybe they’ve already found him. We just..."
She didn’t finish her sentence, suddenly stopped, and gazed in horror at a place.
They were standing right at an alley entrance, which should be a street of clothing shops. It was late, and raining, so most of the stores were closed. The street lights were dim, and it felt eerily quiet.
Yet, there was a murder happening.
A man was pinned in a corner, a knife stabbed into his abdomen, then pulled out, and the blood was washed away by the rain.
The knife was stabbed in again.
The pinned man seemed to have lost his breath, not struggling at all, suddenly sliding down, and through the street light, she saw Camden River’s face.
Daniel Davis turned around and naturally saw it too.
"Stop!"
The two shouted simultaneously, abandoning the umbrella, ready to rush forward.
Daniel Davis, while walking, took out his phone to call the police, but as soon as he pressed 110, he realized Tong Tong had already freed herself and ran toward Camden River.
There were a total of three men committing the crime. The two who were guarding on the side instantly rushed toward Daniel Davis.
The one stabbing had just pulled out the knife from the second stab when Tong Tong pushed him aside.
"Camden River!" Tong Tong’s legs gave way, and she knelt in the mud. She saw correctly; Camden River wasn’t resisting at all. He was drenched in rain, the alcohol effect had somewhat diminished, and he was dragged in while walking down the road and immediately got stabbed.
He had long been working out, and actually had some strength to fight back.
But—
Perhaps in this day, utterly despondent, he even had a slight death wish.
Unexpectedly, he encountered an acquaintance.
He looked at Tong Tong without speaking, blood oozing from his abdomen, quickly pooling at his feet.
"How are you, are you okay?" Tong Tong could only think he had lost too much blood, becoming extremely nervous, completely soaked, lifting her eyes to see Daniel Davis still fighting with the two men, panic enveloped her, trying to help him up.
"Don’t mind me!" Camden River, perceiving her intention, immediately stopped her.
The three men originally came for him. He didn’t know which news story had offended someone; this incident was no accident.
Of course, he didn’t want Tong Tong getting involved.
But—
He had just spoken three words when the man who had been pushed aside before suddenly came back to attack.
"Watch out!"
As Camden River spoke, a dull sound of a knife piercing flesh reached his ears.
He didn’t feel any pain.
She pushed Tong Tong out of the way, but the foolish girl directly lunged at him, tightly shielding him underneath her.
"Tong Tong!" Naturally, Daniel Davis saw this too, and shouted, his voice hoarse in the rain curtain, yet seemingly far away. His slender figure faced the two professional thugs, clearly at a disadvantage, unable to break free.
He was so enraged he nearly went mad, Camden River was stunned, lowering his head to see Tong Tong still smiling at him.
Why is she smiling?
The sensation of the knife piercing flesh was agonizing; he was experiencing it right then. This girl not only didn’t scream in pain but foolishly smiled at him, truly...
Camden River forcefully pushed her aside.
This should have been straightforward, yet no matter how he pushed, Tong Tong’s hands clung to the clothes on his back, refusing to let go. The heavy rain splashed on her face, she simply buried her entire face into his chest.
One stab, another, yet another...
White blade in, red blade out, in just a few seconds, Camden River heard seven times.
One stab went into his side, but he couldn’t feel the pain anymore.
All he could feel was Tong Tong’s hands desperately clutching his clothes. The two of them leaned against the corner, and he saw the ground turn entirely red with blood flowing out.
His eyes reflected the thug holding the knife, yet his heart beneath a girl’s protection grew warmer.
Shouldn’t a dying person’s heart slowly cool?
