Chapter 1138: Chapter 1165: A Matter of Life and Death (Part 6)

The Davis Family is not poor, and Daniel Davis is not exactly a poor boy.

But—

Even so, compared to the wealth they have, there’s a massive gap.

Let’s put it this way, he has only one daughter in his lifetime, and whoever marries his daughter is essentially embracing a mountain of gold and silver.

With Daniel Davis showing signs of pursuing her, he naturally took notice.

He’s a lawyer, shrewd and sharp, whereas his daughter is so pure. Marrying him would only lead to her suffering, especially given his age. Isn’t this an old cow eating young grass? Max Turner was naturally unhappy and remained on the sidelines.

Who would have thought his daughter was finally moved by him?!

He came this time, first to see the exhibition, and second to meet the parents of the Davis Family, and then to consider the next steps.

If Daniel Davis truly treats his daughter well, and his daughter sincerely likes him, for his daughter’s sake, he would naturally have to compromise. After all, in his heart, nothing is more important than his wife and daughter.

Max Turner sighed and left the hospital.

On a weekend afternoon, it started to rain, pattering, and soon it got heavier.

Camden River stood at the corridor entrance, finished a cigarette, and returned to the ward, facing the raindrops carried by the wind.

Chloe Smith and Troy River were talking.

Troy River glanced at him and finally spoke, "Come over here."

"Dad." Camden River stepped over.

Troy River fixed his gaze on him, speaking slowly, "Can you break it off cleanly with that Miss Myres?"

Camden River: "..."

He felt like smoking again.

These past few days, his urge to smoke had intensified beyond his own control.

His silence only fueled Troy River’s anger, who coldly retorted, "Fine, fine! Do as you please! If you can’t end it, then get out. I don’t acknowledge you as my son. Our River Family doesn’t raise such shameless children!"

"Old River!"

Chloe Smith quickly became anxious, constantly signaling Camden River with her eyes.

Camden River slightly lowered his gaze, softly saying, "I understand your point. Please give me some time."

As soon as he finished speaking, he went straight out the door.

Troy River was breathing heavily with anger.

Chloe Smith quickly offered him soft words of comfort and worriedly ran after Camden River.

Camden River’s mind was in chaos. He called Jacob Quinn to accompany him and was already braving the rain, leaving the hospital. Hearing the phone continuously ring, with calls from both Windsor Myres and Chloe Smith, he didn’t answer any.

Chloe Smith couldn’t find him and had to return.

At the ward entrance, she saw Windsor Myres.

Camden River hadn’t returned to the apartment basically all week, which gave Windsor Myres a bad feeling. Every day she was tense and annoyed, and finally, unable to bear it, seeing it rain and knowing Camden River was lightly dressed, she brought over one of his coats.

She was hesitating at the door when suddenly she heard a voice from behind, "Miss Myres."

Turning around, she saw Chloe Smith.

Chloe Smith approached her and asked, "Where is Camden River?"

The corridor was empty, with cold wind mixed with raindrops blowing, leaving a chill on the face.

Chloe Smith looked at Windsor Myres’s beautiful face, said nothing for a long moment, then suddenly knelt down. The sudden action shocked Windsor Myres, making her step back, looking at her in disbelief.

"I’m begging you, please leave my son." Chloe Smith pleaded, looking at her.

She was truly at her wits’ end.

Having shared decades with Troy River, she naturally understood his temper. He’s an old stubborn man who doesn’t tolerate any nonsense. Now that he’s older, his stubbornness and pride have only intensified, tolerant of soft but not hard tactics.

If Camden River refused to leave Windsor Myres, he would truly disown his son.
