The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 94: The Second Sovereign
The Imperial Capital trembled to its core. Far beneath its floating spires, the Imperial Palace, and the countless layers of subterranean infrastructure supporting the ancient metropolis, something ancient and powerful had finally broken its chains.
The initial tremor was barely perceptible, a low vibration that hummed through the flagship’s hull. The second shockwave violently rattled the reinforced bulkheads, shaking entire administrative districts across the planet.
By the third seismic heave, every emergency siren across the planetary grid erupted simultaneously. Red atmospheric hazard lights flashed along the flagship’s corridors as automated warning systems blared across every console.
[PLANETARY STRUCTURAL INSTABILITY DETECTED.]
[ANCIENT SEAL FAILURE: 17%.]
[ANCIENT ENERGY SURGE DETECTED.]
Rhaevia stared at the glowing blue interface hovering in the air before her, the translucent letters pulsing with erratic speed. Cold dread spread through her veins, freezing the blood in her heart.
"The seal..." she whispered, her voice barely audible over the roaring alarms. "It’s collapsing."
Raevor reacted instantly, his long fingers pressing against his military comms earpiece. His voice cut through the background chaos with sharp, command-level authority.
"All Imperial defense divisions, enter emergency planetary formation immediately," Raevor ordered into the channel. "Lock down the central capital grid and begin evacuating civilian sectors surrounding the inner palace perimeter."
Static answered him in harsh bursts of white noise. A heavily distorted voice finally broke through the jamming signal, laced with panic.
"...General Veyr... can you read us? Something is overriding the orbital communications array..."
Raevor’s dark eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Report your status, Captain."
"An unknown high-frequency barrier is interfering with the entire planetary network," the officer reported desperately through the crackling audio. "We cannot establish contact with central command or the planetary defense grid!"
Another violent shudder rocked the frame of the flagship, throwing off the ship’s internal artificial gravity for a brief instant. Rhaevia instinctively reached out, her hand gripping Raevor’s forearm to steady herself against the vibrating floor.
The moment her bare fingers made contact with his uniform, a violent spike of ancient mental energy exploded directly inside her consciousness. She gasped sharply, her vision going white as the ship’s corridor dissolved into nothingness.
When her sight returned, the metallic hallway was gone. A vast, suffocating throne room of black stone materialized around her mind.
Enormous silver pillars stretched upward into an endless abyssal ceiling, each column carved with intricate, glowing runes that predated the modern Empire by tens of thousands of years. At the far end of the silent hall stood an imposing throne.
Unlike the grand golden throne she had seen in her fragmented memories, this seat was sculpted from jagged black crystal. And sitting atop the dark throne was a figure watching her in silence.
It was a woman. Long, brilliant silver hair flowed over her shoulders like liquid moonlight, cascading down the steps of the dais. Her skin was unnaturally pale, almost translucent, contrasted sharply by complex black markings that coiled around her throat and arms like living serpents.
Her eyes were a striking, piercing crimson. They did not burn with raw elemental flame or glow with spiritual light. They simply watched Rhaevia with unsettling, absolute stillness.
"You finally awakened," the woman said, her voice echoing off the obsidian pillars.
Rhaevia froze, her breath locking in her chest as a suffocating aura pressed down upon her soul.
The woman’s lips curved into a slow, bone-chilling smile. "So many endless cycles... yet you still remember nothing."
Rhaevia’s heart hammered against her ribs as she fought to maintain her composure in the mental space. "Who are you?"
The woman let out a melodic laugh that drifted through the vast hall. It was a beautiful, ethereal sound, yet entirely devoid of warmth or humanity.
"You truly don’t remember me?" the woman asked softly, leaning forward on her dark armrest.
The massive throne room trembled as another memory surged unbidden into Rhaevia’s mind. Images flooded her consciousness in rapid succession, burning against her vision.
She saw a radiant golden palace bathed in starlight. She saw thousands of armored Sovereign soldiers kneeling in solemn silence across a vast plaza. She saw a gleaming crown being placed onto a figure’s head beneath an open cosmos.
Then the vision shifted to two women standing side-by-side before a massive holographic star map. One of those women was Rhaevia herself in an ancient life.
The other woman standing beside her was the silver-haired figure on the black throne.
"You were never the only Sovereign," the woman whispered into the quiet air.
Rhaevia’s breathing stopped as the memory shattered and reassembled into a nightmare of blood and fire. She saw a catastrophic battlefield where entire star fleets burned against crimson skies.
She saw two Sovereigns standing on opposite sides of a shattered star gate. One commanded vast legions draped in radiant silver light, while the other commanded endless swarms of abyssal blackness.
And standing in the dead space between those two warring queens was an ancient Sentinel. Rhaevia recognized those dark, unyielding eyes immediately. It was Raevor’s face.
Rhaevia staggered backward in the mental realm, her hands trembling as horror washed over her. "No..."
The silver-haired woman smiled, her crimson eyes gleaming with dark delight. "You remember him, don’t you?"
Rhaevia clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white. "Who are you?"
The woman’s sharp gaze locked onto Rhaevia, all amusement vanishing from her face. "I was the Sovereign of the First Throne," she declared, her voice echoing with ancient authority. "I ruled this galaxy long before your name was ever carved into the stars."
Rhaevia’s chest tightened under the suffocating pressure. "If that’s true... then why don’t I remember you?"
"Because you stole everything from me!" the woman hissed, her expression twisting into a mask of ancient hatred.
The black crystal throne room shook violently at her outburst, dark energy flaring around her frame. "My throne. My kingdom. My people. My legacy!"
Rhaevia shook her head, backing away. "I don’t know what you’re talking about!"
"Of course you don’t," the woman sneered, stepping down from the dais. Every step of her boots sent dark ripples across the liquid floor. "You always forget the blood on your hands."
Another memory struck Rhaevia like a physical blow. She saw herself clad in ancient black-and-silver Sovereign armor, standing over the same silver-haired woman.
In the memory, Rhaevia held a golden crown in her hands while the other sovereign knelt on the shattered ground, blood dripping from her pale lips.
"You promised me," the kneeling woman wept in the memory, her voice filled with betrayal.
"I promised to end this war," the ancient Rhaevia replied coldly, placing the crown onto her own head.
The defeated Sovereign on the ground laughed bitterly through her tears. "You promised we would rule beside each other!"
The memory dissolved into blinding light, and Rhaevia was violently yanked back into reality with a sharp gasp.
Raevor was immediately holding her shoulders, stabilizing her trembling body against the flagship’s corridor wall. "Rhaevia!"
She looked up at him, her vision adjusting to the red emergency lighting. Raevor’s face was unusually pale, his dark eyes filled with deep concern.
"What did you see?" Raevor demanded urgently.
Rhaevia opened her mouth to answer, but before a single word could escape, a deafening explosion echoed through the flagship’s hull.
BOOM!
A massive shockwave ripped across the surface of the Imperial Capital below, sending seismic waves through the atmosphere that rattled the orbiting fleet. The lights along the corridor instantly flickered out, plunging the hallway into pitch darkness.
For several agonizing seconds, there was absolute silence save for the heavy breathing of the two officers. Then, secondary crimson emergency lights hummed to life, casting long, eerie shadows down the corridor.
A new system notification materialized in front of Rhaevia’s eyes, its glowing letters pulsing in dark red script.
[SECOND SOVEREIGN AWAKENING CONFIRMED.]
Rhaevia stared at the screen, her heart pounding against her ribs. Another system prompt followed immediately beneath it.
[SOVEREIGN CLASSIFICATION: HOSTILE.]
Raevor’s expression hardened into lethal military composure as he read the system alert hovering between them. "A Second Sovereign..."
Rhaevia slowly nodded, her voice shaking slightly. "She knows me, Raevor. She knows who I was."
The system panel flickered erratically before displaying another prompt.

Suddenly, every communication screen, HoloScreen, and optical display aboard the Rythundeir flagship activated simultaneously. The ship’s internal network screamed as an unauthorized signal overrode every security protocol.
The same silver-haired woman’s face appeared across every display screen in high definition. Her crimson eyes seemed to pierce straight through the digital feed, locking directly onto Rhaevia standing in the corridor.
"Rhaevia Rythundeir," her cold voice echoed through the ship’s internal speakers, reverberating through every deck and bridge.
The woman on the screen let out a dark, beautiful smile. "You may have forgotten me over countless lifetimes."
The transmission flickered with heavy static, dark energy distorting the edges of the video feed. "But I never forgot what you took from me."
Rhaevia’s blood ran cold as she stared at the display. The woman leaned closer toward the transmission camera, her crimson eyes burning with absolute, ancient fury.
"You stole my throne," the woman spat, her voice echoing through the silent ship. "And now I am coming to take it back."
The transmission abruptly cut to static, leaving every screen blank. A suffocating silence settled over the entire flagship.
Standing in the dim red glow of the emergency lights, Rhaevia felt a terrifying question take root in her mind. For the first time since her awakening in this interstellar world, she stared at her hands and wondered if she had truly been the innocent victim of an ancient war.
Or if, thousands of years ago, she had been the monster who started it.
