The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 90: The Date
The brutal clash finally reached its end three hours later. Surprising every officer stationed on the command bridge, the massive warships of the Black Armada withdrew without issuing a warning or opening fire again.
They had not been defeated in open combat, nor had their impenetrable defensive formations been broken. They had simply turned into the blackness of space and left.
Rhaevia stood on the primary observation deck, her dark eyes fixed on the panoramic glass viewports. She watched the last silhouette of the giant black warship blur into warp speed and disappear beyond the distant, flickering stars.
Her chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, yet her mind remained flooded with relentless questions. She thought of the blood-soaked ancient battlefield, the haunting presence of the ancient Sentinel, and the terrifying realization of their countless past cycles.
Memories that had been sealed for centuries sat heavily at the back of her consciousness like unopened books. Yet, for the first time since the terrifying enemy fleet had appeared, she did not feel the desperate urge to solve every mystery immediately.
A soft, melodious chime sounded behind her as the mechanical doors swept open.
Rhaevia turned her head slowly, stepping out of her reverie to face the intruder. Raevor stood at the entrance of the observation deck, framed by the bright corridor lights.
He had finally changed out of his damaged 3S combat armor, now wearing a clean, dark military uniform that fit his sharp frame perfectly. A thin, fading red scratch still ran along the side of his uncompromising jawline.
"Are you busy?" He asked, his deep voice carrying easily across the empty deck.
Rhaevia blinked in mild surprise, unused to hearing such a casual question from a high-ranking officer. "Not really," she answered, smoothing down her own uniform jacket.
"Good," he said simply, stepping forward with measured, even strides.
He walked toward her until only a few paces separated them on the polished deck. "Come with me."
She raised a single dark eyebrow, studying his unreadable facial expression. "Where?"
"Somewhere," he replied without elaborating.
That is suspiciously vague for an Imperial Major General who usually demands precise coordinates.
A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched the corner of his strict lips. "You’ll survive the trip."
"That remains to be seen," she countered teasingly.
Raevor extended his right hand toward her, holding it open between them in invitation. Rhaevia stared at his broad, gloved palm for a moment before placing her fingers into his grasp. His hand closed around hers securely, radiating a warm, comforting heat.
Instead of taking her toward the busy central command deck or the strategic war room, Raevor turned left. He guided her down a private security corridor that she had never noticed before. The hallway led them straight to a small, sleek transport shuttle resting in a private launch bay.
Raevor activated the entry hatch and opened the passenger door for her.
Rhaevia stopped in front of the boarding ramp, turning her head to give him an inquisitive look. "You’re taking me somewhere outside the flagship?"
"Yes," he answered calmly.
"Without a full military escort following us?" She pressed, crossing her arms.
"Yes."
"Without a single objective or combat mission?"
"Yes," he repeated smoothly.
She narrowed her eyes at him, leaning in slightly to inspect his face. "Are you feeling well, Major General?"
To her surprise, Raevor let out a laugh. It was a brief, low sound that felt unexpectedly warm against the hum of the shuttle’s engines.
"I wanted to take you somewhere peaceful," he said, stepping past her to enter the pilot’s seat.
The small shuttle smoothly detached from the massive flagship and glided into the dark sea of stars. They traveled only a short distance through the system before entering the protective dome of a small artificial habitat orbiting a quiet blue planet below.
The space station was unlike any of the rigid military vessels Rhaevia had known in her past or present life. There were no plasma weapons mounted along the corridors, no glowing screens, and no frantic soldiers running through hallways.
Instead, soft golden lights illuminated charming shops and lush indoor gardens. Tall artificial trees lined a wide glass walkway, their vibrant leaves rustling gently beneath simulated atmospheric winds.
Rhaevia stopped walking and stared around the bustling, peaceful concourse. "This place actually exists?"
Raevor stood beside her, keeping his pace matched to hers. "It is a civilian recreation station."
She turned to look at him with deep suspicion, unable to picture him here. "You actually come here?"
"Sometimes," he admitted.
"What could you possibly do in a place like this?" She asked, genuinely curious.
"Eat," he stated plain-faced.
Rhaevia laughed out loud at the blunt response. "You?"
"I am entirely capable of consuming food," he noted dryly.
"I meant, what do you actually do when you aren’t eating?" She clarified, her eyes sparkling with light humor.
He considered the question seriously for a moment, looking around the peaceful gardens. "Sit."
Rhaevia burst into harder laughter, the sound ringing clearly through the garden air. "That’s your idea of high-level recreation?"
"It is surprisingly effective after weeks on a battleship command bridge," he replied with a slight nod.
They walked through the station side by side, taking in the serene atmosphere. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, nobody was approaching Rhaevia to ask about her Sovereign Core. Nobody was demanding classified information regarding Project Genesis.
Nobody was attempting to manipulate her political standing or drag her into imperial schemes. No military personnel were calling her a legendary Sovereign or a strategic weapon. She was simply walking beside a man she genuinely liked, enjoying a rare moment of peace.
They eventually stopped at a charming little restaurant perched on an open terrace that overlooked the glowing blue planet below.
Raevor sat down across from her and ordered a simple drink. Rhaevia stared at the digital menu floating on her optical lens, lost among the strange dishes.
"You choose for me," she said, dismissing the projection.
He looked up at her across the small table. "You’re the one eating."
"I don’t know what’s actually good here," she argued, leaning her chin on her hand.
"Neither do I," he stated plainly.
She blinked in surprise. "You brought me all the way to this specific restaurant without knowing what they serve?"
"I’ve never actually brought anyone here before," he explained simply.
Rhaevia’s heart gave an unexpected, sudden flutter in her chest. "Anyone at all?"
"No," he answered directly, his dark gaze meeting hers without a trace of hesitation.
The straightforward answer made a sudden, warm blush creep across her cheeks. To cover her slight embarrassment, she picked up the menu again and randomly ordered two unfamiliar local dishes.
When the food arrived, Rhaevia took a single bite of a strange, shimmering green fruit dish and immediately wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Raevor watched her reaction closely from across the table. "Is it bad?"
"Terrible," she declared, trying hard to swallow.
Without saying a word, Raevor took a small bite from his own plate. His strict, handsome face remained completely neutral for three full seconds.
"You’re right," he said deadpan, setting his fork down.
Rhaevia burst into bright, helpless laughter, resting her forehead against the edge of the table.
For the next two hours, they sat together high above the blue planet. They talked about terrible station food, forgotten childhood memories, obscure books, and their old training days back at the military academy.
They spoke of small, ordinary things that held no military significance. They discussed meaningless topics, wonderful details, and simple truths.
Through their light conversation, Rhaevia discovered that the stoic Major General absolutely hated overly sweet desserts. In turn, Raevor learned that she enjoyed ridiculously spicy food far more than anyone in her family thought reasonable.
She admitted to him that she secretly preferred quiet, rainy mornings before the world woke up. He confessed that his military discipline made it almost impossible for him to sleep past dawn.
She teased him mercilessly about being far too serious for his own good. He calmly informed her that she talked significantly faster whenever she was feeling nervous or overwhelmed. Rhaevia gasped in mock outrage and nearly threw her metal spoon straight at his head.
For once in their lives, there was no bloody battlefield stretching between them. There was no ancient prophecy demanding their compliance.
No ancient Sovereign identity hung over their shoulders, and no hostile enemy fleet waited in the shadows. There were only two people sitting beneath warm, golden lights, sharing an evening.
After finishing their meal, they took a slow stroll through the station’s central botanical garden.
A simulated sunset painted the high glass ceiling in brilliant shades of deep orange, soft pink, and shimmering gold. The gentle light bathed the quiet pathway in a serene, warm glow.
Rhaevia came to a stop beneath a massive, flowering tree whose white petals fell like soft snow. She looked out over the glass railing at the breathtaking horizon. "This is truly nice, Raevor."
Raevor stepped up beside her, placing his hands lightly on the railing. "Yes, it is."
Rhaevia turned her head to look up at his sharp profile. "Thank you for bringing me here."
He did not answer her immediately. Instead, he stood in silence, watching her face beneath the brilliant hues of the artificial sunset. His dark eyes softened as he took in her relaxed, smiling expression.
Then, his posture shifted slightly, and his tone became intensely serious once more.
"Rhaevia," he called softly.
She turned her full attention toward him. "What is it?"
Raevor took a step closer, closing the distance between them until he was standing directly in front of her. The warm ambient light highlighted the sharp angles of his face.
"I don’t know what our past lives were." His low voice was steady, cutting through the rustle of the garden leaves. "I don’t know what the ancient Sentinel truly meant to you across those lost centuries."
Rhaevia’s heart began beating faster against her ribs, her breath hitching in her throat.
"But I know what I want right now," he continued, reaching out toward her.
He extended his hand between them, palm open once again. "Stay beside me."
Rhaevia stared at him, her eyes wide as she searched his expression.
Raevor’s dark gaze never left hers for a second. "Not because an ancient prophecy demands it of us."
He took another small step forward. "Not because of our high-level Guide-Sentinel resonance."
He held her gaze with unwavering intensity. "Not because some ancient memory claims we belong together across lifetimes."
His large, warm fingers gently closed around hers, wrapping her hand in a firm, protective hold.
"Stay because you choose me," he whispered softly.
Rhaevia’s lips parted slightly as the profound weight of his request settled deep within her heart.
For the first time since her awakening, an immediate answer did not rush to her lips. She did not offer a quick, playful retort or a military response.
Because this time, standing beneath the golden sunset beside the man who saw only her, she wanted to choose carefully.
