The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 112: A Territory Without a Name
By evening, the crystal forest had returned to its tranquil state. Golden light flowed smoothly beneath the dark soil, illuminating the underground roots of crystalline trees.
Above the shimmering canopy, the pale light of the dying stars cast shadows across the alien landscape, turning the silent forest into a sweeping sea of silver and violet.
At the center of the broad clearing, the expedition team had established its first temporary research camp. Modular, portable laboratories stood beside heavily armored supply vehicles, their exterior floodlights cutting through the twilight.
Geological scanners worked continuously to map the underground crystal network, while military personnel secured the surrounding perimeter. Nearby, several field researchers were already arguing excitedly over the planet’s extraordinary energy readings.
Rhaevia stood before the central holographic projection table, her dark eyes studying the rapidly expanding planetary map.
"This planet could easily sustain an entire civilization," she murmured, leaning her hands against the edge of the console.
She expanded the environmental survey with a flick of her wrist. The real-time telemetry results were even better than her initial projections.
The local atmosphere was breathable, the dark soil contained abundant mineral deposits, and the crystal forest provided an immense, self-replenishing source of clean energy.
Vast underground water reservoirs had been detected beneath the eastern mountain range, while preliminary orbital scans indicated deep deposits of rare industrial metals.
More importantly, the planet’s internal energy grid appeared stable enough to support permanent, large-scale settlements without degrading the surrounding ecosystem. It was a world perfectly capable of nurturing life.
It was a world the Empire had never known existed.
"How many people could realistically live here?" Raevor asked, stepping up to stand beside her at the console.
"With proper infrastructure, several million initially," Rhaevia replied, crossing her arms as she contemplated the sweeping schematic.
"Potentially tens of millions more if we establish modular settlements across the other continents. We could build research centers, residential districts, agricultural facilities, and transportation networks powered entirely by the crystal forest."
Raevor stared at the blue projection. "Then the Imperial government will want it immediately."
"Of course they will," she conceded, her voice turning dry.
She looked down at the holographic map, where the system had automatically highlighted proposed settlement zones in glowing blue lines.
The Empire would see nothing more than a golden opportunity to expand its borders, acquire strategic energy reserves, and reinforce its military infrastructure.
Its high-ranking officials would likely begin carving the planet into administrative sectors before the foundation of the first permanent building had even cured.
Rhaevia could already visualize the inevitable political disputes over resource extraction rights, land ownership, and military oversight. She had seen enough ambitious civilizations destroy priceless, pristine worlds in their endless pursuit of power and dominion.
"I don’t want this planet to become another exploited Imperial resource colony," she said, her jaw tightening.
Raevor turned his head, studying the resolute line of her profile. "What do you want it to become?"
"A place where people can actually build something different," she answered, looking directly into his silver eyes.
She reached out and adjusted the map parameters, drawing a broad, protected boundary around the crystal forest and its vast underground energy network.
"Imagine a territory where humans, Zerg, and native species can coexist without being forced into predetermined social hierarchies," she said, her voice growing passionate.
"A place where independent researchers can study ancient technology without military authorities seizing every discovery. A world where the inhabitants actually have a say in how their resources are used."
Her gaze settled on the proposed central settlement district hovering in the center of the display.
"An independent territory," she stated firmly.
Raevor remained silent for several long seconds, his analytical mind calculating the political fallout. "You realize the Imperial Council will fiercely oppose that," he pointed out.
"They can oppose it all they want after I’ve already established the core infrastructure," she replied with a faint, daring smirk.
He raised an eyebrow. "You’re planning to establish an independent civilization before even informing the Empire of this planet’s existence?"
"I am strongly considering it," she admitted.
"That distinction is not particularly reassuring, Your Highness," he noted dryly.
Rhaevia let out a soft, melodic laugh that broke the heavy tension between them. Then her expression grew serious once more.
"I don’t want to build another traditional kingdom where everyone depends on a single, powerful ruler," she explained softly, looking at her bare hands. "If this place is truly going to survive, its people must have the absolute freedom to determine their own future."
She thought back to the sovereign throne she had so vehemently rejected, the overwhelming responsibilities that had once consumed her past existence, and the endless lives that had depended on her every decision.
This time, she wanted to create a domain that did not require her to become an immortal god.
She simply wanted to build a real home.
Raevor looked back down at the holographic layout, his eyes softening slightly as he absorbed her vision. "Then we will need much more than a temporary research camp. We will need permanent security forces, formal diplomatic agreements with the native inhabitants, and an unbroken supply chain."
"And a governing council that includes genuine representatives from every community," she added, her eyes brightening.
He looked at her knowingly. "You’ve already thought this through in detail, haven’t you?"
"Only a little," she claimed innocently.
Raevor gave her a deeply skeptical look, the corner of his mouth twitching.
Rhaevia’s smile widened. "Fine. Perhaps considerably more than a little."
Raevor reached out beneath the glowing blue light of the display, his warm fingers brushing gently against hers before closing around her hand.
"If this is what you want to build," he said, his deep voice filled with unyielding conviction, "I will help you protect it."
Rhaevia looked up at him, a profound warmth spreading rapidly through her chest. "Even if the Empire eventually declares us a political threat?"
"Especially then," he answered without a moment’s hesitation.
Before she could respond to his vow, a sudden, high-pitched alarm chime echoed loudly from the main communications terminal.
A senior technician stumbled back from his console, his face pale as he gestured wildly toward them. "Your Highness! General! We’ve just detected a massive, unidentified signal propagating directly through the planetary crystal network!"
Rhaevia instantly withdrew her hand and stepped toward the terminal. "Is it a localized energy fluctuation?"
"No, ma’am," the technician reported, his hands flying over the keyboard. "It’s a structured, encrypted transmission. The signal is pulsing through the entire underground root grid simultaneously, but our arrays cannot lock onto a single point of origin."
The technician transferred the visual data to the primary holographic display.
Thick golden lines exploded across the planetary map, branching rapidly beneath the crystalline forest and extending deep into the uncharted mountain ranges. The planet-wide energy network was functioning as an immense, natural communication system.
Someone in this world was actively using it.
Rhaevia’s eyes narrowed. "Can you trace the frequency back to its source?"
"We’re trying, Your Highness," the technician replied nervously. "But the transmission is originating from dozens of subterranean locations at the same time."
Without warning, every crystal inside the research camp suddenly dimmed to a dull flicker.
The ambient chiming of the surrounding forest died completely, plunging the camp into an oppressive, unnatural silence.
Then, the central holographic display was wiped black.
A line of complex symbols materialized on the dark screen, rapidly translating itself into standard Imperial text before their eyes:
[UNAUTHORIZED SETTLEMENT DETECTED.]
Raevor instantly stepped in front of Rhaevia, his posture dropping into a lethal combat stance as his hand gripped the butt of his weapon.
A second line of text flashed across the black void:
[THIS WORLD IS NOT YOURS.]
A low, ominous rumble vibrated through the dark soil beneath the research camp as the planetary grid fully awakened.
Then, a final transmission filled every active display screen in the entire facility.
A harsh, synthesized voice reverberated through the camp’s audio speakers:
"Leave this world."
Rhaevia stared at the glaring red text, her heart beating heavily against her ribs. Someone had been silently watching their every move from deep beneath the surface. And whoever controlled the crystal network had just officially declared them unwelcome.
