The Surrogate He Discarded

Chapter 55: Thrown Out!

Katherine stepped backward.

"Morgan—"

The nurse gently but firmly took hold of her arm. Panic flashed across Katherine’s face.

"Tin!"

Her eyes darted toward Kristine.

"Sis!"

For the first time, her voice sounded frightened.

"Say something. You have to stand up for me. I just stood up for you."

Kristine lowered her gaze. A wave of disappointment washed through her.

Not toward Morgan. Not toward Isobel. Toward her own sister.

She was not standing up for her. She was trying to drive a wedge between her and her husband and Isobel.

"Katie..." she whispered. "You went too far."

The softness of her voice somehow hurt more than anger ever could.

Katherine froze.

The words struck harder than the slap. Her own sister wasn’t defending her.

"Tin..."

But Kristine looked away. The last of Katherine’s resistance crumbled.

"No..."

Her voice shook.

"Sis, I only did it for you..."

No one answered.

Moments later, the nursery door closed behind her. The click echoed through the room and Katherine’s shouts were swallowed behind the heavy door.

Silence followed. A heavy, suffocating silence.

But the damage had already been done.

A soft whimper broke the stillness. Then another.

Kristofer’s little face crumpled. Kirsten’s eyes filled with tears.

Within seconds, both twins burst into heartbroken cries.

The robotic puppy immediately stopped moving and sat motionless beside them.

Morgan was at the crib instantly. Kristine struggled to her feet despite her weakness.

Ella hurried forward. Even Isobel rushed to the babies’ side.

For a brief moment, all the tension and accusations disappeared.

Nothing mattered except comforting the twins.

Yet as Isobel gently lifted Kirsten into her arms, she couldn’t shake the sting of Katherine’s words.

And as Kristine watched her soothe the crying baby with practiced ease, a complicated ache settled inside her chest.

Isobel noticed the gloom in Kristine’s face and so she passed the still whimpering Kirsten to her.

"Just don’t tire yourself, Kristine. You can give her to me or to Ella if you feel tired."

Kristine nodded gratefully.

...

Outside the nursery, Katherine stood alone in the hallway, staring at the closed door.

Inside, they were comforting the children together.

And for the first time since arriving at the Foster estate, she felt as though she was the outsider.

The thought burned.

The nursery door remained closed.

And on the other side of it, the distance between the sisters seemed wider than ever.

"It was that vicous woman’s fault." She hissed. "She will pay for the humiliation, I suffered today."

...

That evening, a white Audi swept through the wrought-iron gates of the Hayes estate. The vehicle had barely come to a stop before the driver’s door flew open.

Katherine stepped out, her designer heels clicking sharply against the pavement.

The image she presented to the world, the sweet, cheerful celebrity beloved by millions of viewers—was nowhere to be seen. Her face was dark with anger. Her eyes were swollen from crying.

And every trace of the warmth that captivated audiences during her live streams and television appearances had vanished.

A security guard hurried forward to open the rear door.

Without even glancing at him, Katherine tossed her car keys into his hands.

"Take my luggage to my room."

Her tone was cold and imperious. The guard quickly nodded.

"Yes, Miss Hayes."

Katherine strode into the mansion.

The moment she stepped into the grand living room, she found her parents sitting together on the sofa.

A large television mounted on the wall was replaying highlights from the reality show she had participated in over the weekend.

On the screen, Katherine was smiling brightly, charming both the audience and her fellow cast members.

The contrast was almost laughable.

The instant she saw her parents, Katherine’s expression crumbled.

"Mom!"

Tears immediately flooded her eyes. She rushed forward and threw herself into her mother’s embrace.

Mrs. Hayes’s face changed instantly.

Years of motherhood had conditioned her to react whenever her youngest daughter cried.

"Oh, sweetheart."

She wrapped her arms around Katherine.

"What happened?"

Her voice was full of concern.

Then she frowned.

"And why are you here?"

"Weren’t you staying at your sister’s place? Your father and I were planning to visit tomorrow."

At the mention of the Hayes mansion, Katherine’s tears flowed even harder.

"Mom... Dad..."

Her voice trembled pitifully.

"Morgan bullied me."

Both parents stiffened.

"What?"

Mrs. Hayes’s voice rose immediately.

"He threw me out of his house."

The atmosphere in the living room changed instantly.

Mr. Hayes lowered the tablet he had been holding.

His expression darkened.

"Why would Morgan do that?"

Katherine buried her face deeper into her mother’s shoulder.

"Because of an outsider."

Mrs. Hayes’s eyes widened.

"What outsider?"

Katherine sniffled dramatically.

"Mommy... Daddy..."

Her voice cracked.

"It’s like this..."

Then she began recounting the events that had transpired earlier that evening.

But the story that left her lips was far from the truth.

In Katherine’s narrative, she had been nothing more than a loving sister worried about Kristine’s marriage. A concerned sibling trying to protect her vulnerable twin from a manipulative woman.

And Isobel?

Isobel became a cunning opportunist.

An ambitious young woman who had allegedly used the twins, her position in the household, and her innocent appearance to slowly worm her way into Morgan’s life.

By the time Katherine finished speaking, she had painted herself as the victim and Isobel as a scheming seductress.

Neither parent questioned her version of events.

Not once.

Mrs. Hayes exploded first.

"How dare she!"

Her voice echoed throughout the room.

"That shameless woman!"

Mr. Hayes’s expression grew increasingly grim.

"And Kristine?" Mrs. Hayes demanded. "She just stood there and let someone treat you that way?"

Fresh tears rolled down Katherine’s cheeks.

"I tried to protect her."

Her voice quivered.

"But she sided with them."

Mrs. Hayes immediately pulled her daughter closer.

The protective fury in her eyes intensified.

"Unbelievable."

Mr. Hayes rose from his seat.

His face was dark with displeasure.

"We’ll settle this tomorrow."

Mrs. Hayes nodded firmly.

"Yes."

She stroked Katherine’s hair.

"We’ll pay them a visit."

A faint smile tugged at Katherine’s lips. Exactly as she expected. Her parents had always believed her. They had always defended her and taken her side.

Even when she was wrong. Especially when Kristine was involved.

As she rested in her mother’s embrace, satisfaction quietly replaced her tears.

Tomorrow, Morgan and Isobel would discover something she had known her entire life.

No matter what happened...

Mr. and Mrs. Hayes would always choose Katherine.
