Chapter 484 - The Boyfriend Would Not Inform The Family

Chapter 484: The Boyfriend Would Not Inform The Family

The burly man had just regained his composure when he heard Zheng Ren’s words. He immediately bowed again.

“I’m sorry, Chief Zheng. I forgot about that fact in my excitement. Forgive me, please forgive me.”

“It’s okay.” Zheng Ren smiled.

“Li San, what the hell are you doing here? I’m going to settle your debts with you today.”

“I… I…” Li San’s face was crestfallen as smiled apologetically.

Zheng Ren could not be bothered to look at Li San right now. However, it seemed that he had found Lian Xiaoliu something to ‘do’ again.

He needed to find a way to treat him to more skewers. That seemed to be the only way he could repay him.

“You guys seem busy so I’ll head back first,” Zheng Ren said. “We’ll try to reduce the patient’s hospitalization expenses as much as possible. It’s best not to give up. The chances of recovery are very high. When it reaches severe pancreatitis however, things will be different then.”

“Okay. Chief Zheng, you go ahead first,” the big man said with a smile. After that, he turned around and changed his expression. He kicked the other man in the stomach. This caused his back to hit the wall behind him, making a ‘dong’ sound.

“Chief Zheng said to take good care of the patient! You’re lucky that you need to take care of the patient!”

Zheng Ren could not be bothered to listen. He greeted Chief Xia before leaving the gastroenterology department.

Behind him, he vaguely heard the burly man reprimanding the other ruffian. He could not hear him clearly but it was probably something like how Lian Xiaoliu had said that he was not allowed to cause trouble at Sea City General Hospital and should be taking care of the patient properly. Mr. Gold Chain seemed to be in debt and was in hiding. If it was not for his mother being sick, he would not have actually appeared in public. From the looks of it, this person seemed to be alright.

Lian Xiaoliu was quite capable. Zheng Ren smiled.

Just as he walked out of the gastroenterology department, Zheng Ren’s phone rang.

His blood pressure rose slightly as Zheng Ren picked up his phone. When he saw that the called ID was Su Yun, he immediately relaxed.

“Hello.

“Oh, Chief Xia came to me for a consultation after I left the operating theatre.

“Yeah, I was just about to go to the ICU to take a look. You should be in charge of the thesis. I trust you enough, okay?

“Stop bullsh*tting. I’m going to the Provincial Capital for surgery in the next few days. Are you going to take a look?

“Okay, let’s meet up and talk.”

With that, Zheng Ren hung up the phone and slowly walked toward the ICU.

After the surgery, he received the System reward for his access to the Library. Zheng Ren only took a few glances at it before Gao Shaojie came in.

He was going to take a look at the patients first. If there was nothing important, he would go into the System space and read the books in the Library.

Just by flipping through them, Zheng Ren had a rough understanding of how the System’s Library worked.

It basically contained all kinds of periodicals and magazines one could find throughout the years. There was nothing special about it. Moreover, there were no magazines with future dates. All of them were already in existence.

If this library was useful, it was really useful.

Recently, Zheng Ren had encountered a few cases that were difficult to deal with. For example, long hair princess disease. He began to have the idea of reading more periodicals.

However, it was not as practical as he had hoped.

It would be better if he could see future journals. Think about it. What would be written in journals ten years from now? How beautiful would it be if he could be one step ahead of others.

Unfortunately, the System did not seem to have the ability to do such a thing.

However, it was not bad for him to be able to browse through all the literature without leaving the house. It saved him the time he would need to search for it himself.

While pondering this, Zheng Ren had already arrived in front of the ICU.

An ICU doctor was explaining a young man’s condition to him.

The young man looked tired with dark circles under his eyes. His hair looked like it had not been washed in days. It looked like he had a horrible haircut.

As he spoke, the young man bowed. He was very serious. Zheng Ren could feel it.

“Chief Zheng, you’re here.” The ICU doctor greeted Zheng Ren warmly when he saw him.

“Yeah, are you busy?”

“Brother Yun is waiting for you inside. I’ll go in after we finish chatting,” the ICU doctor beckoned.

Zheng Ren changed his clothes and walked into the ICU. He saw Su Yun leaning against the counter of the nurses’ station, chatting and laughing with the young nurses.

This meant that everything was fine. Whenever Zheng Ren saw Su Yun chatting and laughing, he knew that the patient’s condition was stable.

“Boss, you’re here?” Su Yun said.

“Yes, is the patient’s condition stable? When can we remove the tube?” Zheng Ren asked.

“Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” Su Yun said casually.

Zheng Ren nodded and came to the front of the bed of the patient who had been penetrated by a steel bar. The background color in the upper right-hand corner of the System’s panel was much lighter. This was a sign that the patient’s condition was getting better.

As long as he could recover, that was good enough. Zheng Ren thought of the patient’s parents who were squatting on the ground and leaning against the wall. He hoped that this young man did not have to be so competitive.

If he could get into the Qing Dynasty, was it that important to be number one?

Perhaps some of the top students thought so. However, when they arrived in the Qing Dynasty, they would be dealt a huge blow.

This was because there could only be one top student!

There were thirty to fifty top students in the country gathered together, and there was always a difference between them.

Children were not ambitious, which made people worried. It was not a good thing to be too ambitious.

Zheng Ren saw that the drainage near the patient’s anus was almost gone, and the gauze dressing on the incision was clean and fresh. He knew that Su Yun had just changed it.

‘My assistant is really flawless,’ Zheng Ren praised in his heart. Would it not be better if he was not so willing to criticize others all the time?

Right after the physical examination, the ICU doctor who had been talking with the patient’s family walked in.

Her expression was a little ugly.

“What’s wrong? Did the patient’s family offend you?” Su Yun asked.

“It’s nothing, Brother Yun.” The ICU doctor shook his head. “They didn’t offend me. It’s just that I couldn’t bear delivering the news to them.”

“What patient?” Zheng Ren asked.

“Influenza made complicated with pneumonia. She was sent to the ICU directly from the emergency department last night,” Su Yun said. “Her condition is particularly bad. I checked and found out she has congenital heart disease. The patient’s representative family is only her boyfriend. He said that he wouldn’t look for her own family no matter what.”

“Which bed?” Zheng Ren asked.

“Bed J-8.”

Zheng Ren went over and saw a 21 to 22-year-old girl lying there with tracheal intubation. She was assisted by a ventilator.

The System’s panel gave its diagnoses, such as double pneumonia, respiratory failure, and patent ductus arteriosus.

The ductus arteriosus was the normal blood flow channel between the pulmonary artery and the aorta in the fetal period. After birth, the ductus arteriosus would close automatically due to disuse.

In some people, the Ductus arteriosus did not close by itself. This would cause mixed blood from the arteries and veins, resulting in symptoms such as insufficient oxygen content in the arteries.

The clinical manifestation of patent ductus arteriosus mainly depends on the amount of blood from the aorta to the pulmonary artery shunt, and whether or not the secondary pulmonary hypertension was produced plus its degree of severity.

Mild patients may not have obvious symptoms, while severe patients may develop symptoms such as heart failure and lower body cyanosis.

Zheng Ren went to check. The patient’s symptoms were most typical for her state.

Because the flu had caused double pneumonia, the oxygen content in the blood continued to drop, resulting in respiratory system failure and other complications.

It was not difficult to treat the patient.

Whether it was surgery to crack the sternum, ligation of the artery catheter, mediastinoscopy with a titanium clip, or interventional treatment, the patient could be cured completely.

It was just that the patient’s current condition made it difficult for the cardiothoracic surgery department to perform the surgery.

However, it could still be treated through interventional surgery.

Seeing that Zheng Ren was in a daze, Su Yun walked to Zheng Ren’s side and sighed. “Boss, are you thinking about the surgery?”

Zheng Ren did not say anything and nodded.

“The patient has no money,” Su Yun said, straight to the point. “Every day, her fees go unpaid but her little boyfriend is really loyal. He’d make up for it early in the morning and then ask for more money.”

“What about his home?”

“This is the strangest thing. Her boyfriend refuses to say anything and didn’t inform her family about this.”
