Chapter 99 - 100: The Big Dog Bit Someone
Chapter 99: Chapter 100: The Big Dog Bit Someone
Xue Chu Medicine Cuisine’s business was doing extremely well, but its biggest problem was the supply of raw chickens.
"Where did this big wolfhound come from?" Li Yang asked Xiao Zhen.
"What do you want?" Xiao Zhen watched Li Yang warily. "Are you thinking of doing something to my dog? Let me tell you, this dog is vicious!"
"It was a gift!" Zhao Xuechu said with a faint smile. "From a certain young master, wasn’t it?"
Xiao Zhen looked proud for a moment, but she quickly snorted. "He offered to give it to me, but I refused. I paid for it myself. I don’t want a dog from him."
Li Yang considered for a moment, then said, "This kind of dog... You shouldn’t keep it."
Xiao Zhen’s expression soured. "What do you mean by that? Why shouldn’t I keep it?"
"Because you can’t control it," Li Yang replied seriously. "This dog is too aggressive. It might seem especially docile with you right now, but if something provokes it, it’ll go berserk in an instant."
"You’re talking nonsense!" Xiao Zhen didn’t believe him at all, saying with disdain, "You’re just a fraud, spouting complete garbage."
Li Yang said calmly, "Believe me or not, there’s nothing more I can do. But I’ve said my piece. You should think it over carefully."
"Zhenzhen," Zhao Xuechu spoke up. "It’s really not a good idea to be walking such a large dog around. Maybe don’t bring it out next time. To be honest, it’s pretty frightening. A child would be terrified if they saw it."
"Xue Chu, don’t listen to his nonsense!" Xiao Zhen paid her no mind and chuckled. "He’s just talking out of his ass. What does he know about dogs? The man doesn’t have a caring bone in his body."
"Dabao, come!" At that moment, Li Yang suddenly called out.
A large dog quickly ran over.
It was Zhou Zong’s dog. Li Yang had renamed it after taking it home last time.
It had been with Li Yang for a few days and had grown very familiar with him, obeying his every command.
"You..." Xiao Zhen was taken aback.
But the large wolfhound at her feet had already grown restless, staring viciously at Dabao.
Dabao did the same, glaring warily at the wolfhound.
Li Yang realized what was happening. ’These two dogs must have come from the same place.’
"Where did you get a dog?" Xiao Zhen asked, in disbelief, thinking she must be seeing things.
"That’s none of your business," Li Yang warned her again. "I’m advising you one last time: send this dog back. You can’t handle it."
"As if you could!" Xiao Zhen sneered, her face full of disbelief. "Xue Chu, let’s go. So what if he has a big dog? Who does he think he is, lecturing me?"
Zhao Xuechu gave Li Yang an apologetic smile and got into the car with Xiao Zhen.
Li Yang shook his head. ’I’ve already said my piece. If she won’t listen, there’s nothing I can do.’
Watching their car drive away, Li Yang sat down and stroked Dabao’s fur. "What’s the matter? See an old acquaintance? I’m curious, why the intense animosity between you two?"
Dabao whimpered and began to pace in circles, looking very agitated.
Li Yang patted his own head. ’The dog seems really scared. Oh well, I’ll just leave it be.’
...
He didn’t know what time it was when an urgent ringing jolted him awake.
Still groggy, Li Yang answered the phone.
"Li Yang, can you come to the township?" a frantic voice said on the other end.
"What happened?" Li Yang was still half-asleep.
"It’s Zhao Xuechu! The big dog bit someone—and it was a child!" Zhao Xuechu said frantically. "It’s a bad bite, and now a group of people has us surrounded. Can you please come over? You’re from this township, maybe you can talk to them. I don’t think they’ll listen to me."
’Holy shit!’
Li Yang was instantly wide awake. "Stay right where you are. Don’t say anything stupid, and don’t do anything stupid. Just tell them I’m on my way!"
After hanging up, Li Yang was already out the door. He jumped in his car and sped toward the township.
The township’s streets weren’t wide, and at this late hour, it was easy to follow the sounds of the commotion. Li Yang found them as soon as he arrived.
The courtyard of one house was brightly lit.
"What’s the situation?" Li Yang saw a dozen or so people—men and women—standing there. He could hear someone crying.
Zhao Xuechu and Xiao Zhen were standing in the middle of them all, looking frightened.
"You’re the friend she was talking about, right?" A burly man in his thirties stepped forward, pointing angrily at Li Yang. "Her dog bit my son. So, what are you going to do about it?"
"I’ll pay!" Xiao Zhen blurted out. "I already said we’d compensate you. Why are you still acting like this?"
This only made the burly man even more furious.
"Be quiet!" Li Yang shot her a glare.
"You—!" Xiao Zhen fumed.
Zhao Xuechu pulled her back. "Stop talking. Let him handle this."
’He can’t handle shit!’
Xiao Zhen had absolutely no respect for Li Yang.
"Sir, I’m so sorry," Li Yang said, stepping forward with sincerity. "This is absolutely my friend’s fault. By the way, the child... where is he?"
"The child’s at the clinic!" another man spoke up. "His mother is with him. He’s bitten up so badly... I’m telling you, you’d better give us a proper explanation, or this won’t be over!"
