Chapter 246: Chapter 247: The Pheasants Are Plagued
The woman quickly got dressed and came out, looking a bit angry.
Li Yang stood there and gave an awkward laugh.
"Go on. Give me one reason why I shouldn’t call the police," the woman said, her anger showing.
"Calm down..." Li Yang said with another awkward laugh. "I really didn’t mean anything by it. I just came here to buy some chicks. I was here this afternoon, but one of your employees stopped me and said you weren’t selling anymore. I couldn’t accept that, so I thought I’d come back after they left for the day. How was I supposed to know..."
The woman’s face flushed slightly.
It was mainly because she was used to being here alone. After all, once the workers went home, there was usually no one else around.
Who would have thought this guy would show up?
This whole thing was definitely an embarrassing mistake.
’But to think he saw... that part of me...’
"Our pheasants here are all done for..." The woman’s face turned cold. "You should go. I’ll let you off the hook this time."
"I can cure your chicks," Li Yang said. "I only have one condition. When I’m done, you just have to sell me some chicks at a lower price."
"You can?" The woman laughed and shook her head. "It’s not that I’m looking down on you, but I’ve already had many professionals come take a look. They all said there’s nothing to be done. Now that there’s an outbreak of bird flu, the only option is to cull them all. It’s such a shame... all my chicks..."
As she spoke, her expression grew grim.
"I can really handle it. As long as I can fix this, everything will be fine..."
Just then, the sound of a car came from outside.
Then, two men walked in.
"Boss Zeng..." one of them, a middle-aged man, said with a smirk. "Sorry to bother you, but we’re here to collect a debt."
The woman’s expression changed. "Brother Cong, I don’t have any money right now..."
"No money?" Brother Cong chuckled. "Boss Zeng, when you borrowed money from me, you promised you’d pay it back in three months. It’s been three months now, and you’re telling me you have no money?"
"I can’t help it..." the woman explained with a bitter smile. "My pheasant chicks were supposed to be ready for shipment, but as you can see, there’s been a bird flu outbreak. I can’t ship anything. Could you please give me a few more days? I’ll scrape the money together for you."
"No can do!" Brother Cong smirked. "Business is all about integrity. You made it sound so good back then. My brothers and I believed you, and that’s why we lent you the money. And now you’re telling me this? That’s not how it works..."
"No, Brother Cong..."
"Boss Zeng, you’re so beautiful. There’s actually an easy way to solve this. How about this? You spend a few nights with me and my brothers, and we’ll call the debt even," Brother Cong said with a lecherous expression.
Boss Zeng’s face changed, filled with indignation.
"Is the time up?" Li Yang asked.
"That’s right, there’s still one day left!" Boss Zeng realized. "The three-month period isn’t over for another day. What’s your hurry?"
Brother Cong faltered. ’I was a bit too hasty.’
’But what can you do in one day? You really think you can raise that much money, Ms. Zeng?’
’This farm has already emptied your pockets.’
’Borrow money?’
’Who’s going to lend you any?’
"Fine, one day it is," Brother Cong said coldly. "I’ll be back first thing tomorrow morning, and we’ll see what you do then. Let me lay it out for you now: tomorrow, it’s either 100,000 yuan or you sleep with me. I’m justified in saying this anywhere!"
With that, the two men left.
Once they were gone, Boss Zeng’s expression relaxed, but her face was still tinged with bitterness.
"Boss Zeng..." Li Yang began. "So, have you considered letting me take a look at your chicks?"
"There’s no need to look..." Boss Zeng was a little grateful to Li Yang for helping her out of that tight spot, and her expression softened. "It’s not that I don’t want to sell to you; I just don’t want to rip you off..."
"Boss Zeng, I’m a doctor," Li Yang said with a serious look. "I’m very good at curing illnesses that others can’t. If I can cure them, you won’t have to cull your pheasants. You’ll be able to make money then. I alone will need to buy a lot of chicks from you, so that 100,000 yuan won’t be a big problem, right?"
Boss Zeng nodded. ’He’s not wrong...’
"Besides, just let me try," Li Yang said. "If I can’t cure them, there’s no loss. But what if I can? It’s a long shot, but what have you got to lose?"
Li Yang’s reasoning was sound, leaving Boss Zeng speechless. After a moment, she said, "All right. Since you put it that way, I’ll trust you this once. Come on, I’ll take you."
Li Yang was overjoyed. "Great! Let’s go!" he said immediately.
Boss Zeng led Li Yang to the pheasants’ habitat. The birds there looked listless and lethargic. They were clearly very sick.
"This is what they look like. The experts we brought in have already given them a death sentence. There’s nothing to be done!" Boss Zeng looked reluctant to give up on them.
"It’s okay. By the way, can you catch a couple of them for me?" Li Yang asked. "I’ll try something on them."
Boss Zeng frowned, but she still caught two pheasants and brought them over.
Li Yang took a spoonful of water, added a drop of ring water to it, then used a syringe to force-feed it to them.
"You’re just giving them water?" After Li Yang had finished, Boss Zeng was dumbfounded.
