Chapter 146: Chapter 147: Requesting an Audience with the Station Director

Outside Ruizhou TV Station, Li Yang had been hesitating for several minutes.

After all, it was his first time in a place like this, so he was a little worried he might do something rude.

After a moment, he straightened his clothes and finally went inside.

"Hello, sir. How can I help you?" the receptionist asked politely.

"I’d like to see your station director," Li Yang said directly.

Huh?!

The receptionist was stunned. ’You want to see our director?’

"Do you have an appointment?"

"No."

"Do you know our director?"

"No..."

The receptionist was at a loss for words.

"I have a very important business deal to discuss with your director!" Li Yang knew he was being rather forward, but he’d already come this far. There was no turning back now. ’I can’t just up and leave.’ He added, "It’s a really important matter."

The receptionist said apologetically, "I’m sorry, sir, but our director isn’t here."

"What?" Li Yang was dumbfounded. ’I finally managed to get in here, and you’re telling me the director is gone?’

"Our director went out on business and hasn’t returned yet. I’m truly sorry," the young receptionist said sincerely.

Li Yang was disappointed. "When will she be back?"

"I don’t know." The young woman shook her head. "It could be a while."

Li Yang felt a wave of frustration. ’Looks like my luck’s run out.’

"Perhaps you could try coming back another time," the receptionist suggested.

Li Yang nodded, thanked her, and headed for the door.

The young receptionist had just breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Li Yang come back. He asked curiously, "I wanted to ask, what kind of business did your director go to discuss?"

The receptionist looked awkward.

"Why should we tell you what kind of business our director is discussing?" a man behind him retorted imposingly.

"Director Liu," the receptionist said quickly.

"No reason, just curious," Li Yang said with a hollow laugh.

"Is that any of your business?" Director Liu sneered. "Get out of here. Stop bothering us while we’re trying to work."

Li Yang was getting pissed. ’What I say to the receptionist is none of your damn business. What’s with the attitude?’

But on second thought, he decided to let it go. It wasn’t worth the trouble.

After Director Liu left, the receptionist whispered to Li Yang, "I heard—and I don’t know how true this is—that our director went to ask Miss Liu Le Mei for an interview. But Miss Liu seems a bit reluctant, so they’ve been negotiating this whole time."

’Liu Le Mei?’

The name sounded familiar to Li Yang, and he suddenly made the connection. "You mean the celebrity?"

"That’s her!" the young receptionist said. "You could say she’s Ruizhou’s only real celebrity. She just recently played the third female lead in a hit drama series, so she’s really famous right now. Our director wants to ride the wave of her popularity and get her in for an interview. It would bring in a lot of viewers, but... for some reason, the negotiations aren’t going well."

Li Yang understood now. His eyes lit up as he asked, "Do you know where Liu Le Mei lives?"

The young receptionist stared at him, speechless.

"Don’t get the wrong idea..." Li Yang said quickly. "I want to help your director close this deal."

The young receptionist shook her head.

Li Yang understood. ’Of course she doesn’t know. Liu Le Mei is a celebrity; how would a receptionist have that kind of information?’

So, Li Yang changed his approach. "Alright, how about this? When your director gets back, give me a call. I’ll wait outside."

Seeing his clothes, the young receptionist figured he was probably a farmer. She felt a bit sorry for him and said, "Alright, then. But you can’t cause any trouble, or I’ll get chewed out by my supervisors."

"I won’t!" Li Yang promised, puffing out his chest. "I’m here to talk business. Why would I cause any trouble?"

The young receptionist nodded.

And with that, Li Yang went outside.

Late that afternoon, just as the workday was ending, Li Yang got a call from the young receptionist. "The director’s back! You should get here quick, or she might leave again."

As soon as he heard, Li Yang drove over in his small pickup truck.

As Li Yang entered, he saw an exceptionally beautiful woman of about thirty-five or thirty-six grabbing her purse to leave.

Director Liu, the man from earlier, was trailing right behind her. "Director Song, I think you should let me handle this. I’m certain I can win Miss Liu over and get her to agree to our interview."

"Hello, Director Song!" Seizing the opportunity, Li Yang immediately stepped forward to greet her.

Director Song looked up. She seemed surprised for a moment to see the clean-cut Li Yang, then asked with a smile, "Are you looking for me?"

Li Yang nodded. ’I didn’t expect Director Song to be so approachable,’ he thought, and quickly introduced himself. "I’d like to place an ad on your station..."

"Oh, in that case, you can just talk to Director Liu here beside me," Director Song said. "I’m sorry, but I have to go..."

"You again? Get out!" Director Liu snapped, his temper flaring.

Li Yang knew he could only deal with Director Song; talking to Director Liu was pointless. He immediately said, "Director Song, you’re trying to arrange an interview with Miss Liu, right? I can help you with that!"

His words made both of them stop in their tracks.
