Chapter 124: Chapter 125: The Great Serpent Appears

Li Yang’s curiosity was piqued. "What big snake? How big is it?"

"Huge!" Uncle Gui Fa swallowed hard before he spoke. "This happened several years ago. I was up on the mountain catching snakes and had just bagged a decent-sized one when I ran into *that* big snake. It was thicker than my thigh! I was completely stunned. I knew I’d stumbled upon the mountain’s Snake King. I didn’t dare startle it, so I just ran. When I got back, I warned the other villagers to stay away from that area because of the giant snake. But then one day, my wife and I went up the mountain again and ran into it a second time. We were both scared out of our wits, but luckily, the snake didn’t seem to want to attack us, and we managed to get away. After that, I never dared go back there again. And now, who knows what Master Chi and his gang are planning, but they’ve shown up at my door many times, wanting me to lead them to it."

Li Yang finally understood. ’So that was the whole story.’

"Are there really snakes that big?" Li Yang asked curiously.

"If I hadn’t seen it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it either. But after seeing it, I’m a believer," Uncle Gui Fa said with a bitter smile. "Don’t underestimate these parts. There are probably a lot of strange and mysterious things around here. A snake like that... it’s best we stay far away from it."

Li Yang was only curious; he wasn’t about to go looking for any giant snake.

Besides, the one he was after was a Coiling Snake.

As they were speaking, a Coiling Snake suddenly crawled onto a nearby rock, as if to sunbathe.

"There’s one!" Li Yang’s spirits rose.

"Let me get it!" Uncle Gui Fa said, feeling a little embarrassed. Li Yang had helped him so much, so he wanted to repay him. "You just wait here. I’ll go catch it."

Without waiting for Li Yang’s reply, Uncle Gui Fa was already moving forward.

"Uncle..." Li Yang began in a low voice, "Come back. I’ll go..."

But Uncle Gui Fa either didn’t hear him or chose to ignore him, and just kept heading forward.

Li Yang was helpless. He was just about to follow.

Suddenly, he felt the ground seem to tremble.

The sensation was odd. It wasn’t quite a tremor; it felt more like something was sliding across the ground.

The sliding was very subtle. If Li Yang’s senses weren’t sharper than an ordinary person’s, he never would have felt it.

But he did feel it.

A low HISS emanated from up ahead.

"Uncle Gui Fa! Come back!" Li Yang roared, no longer worried about scaring off the Coiling Snake.

Uncle Gui Fa, knowing nothing of the danger, simply turned to look at Li Yang with a puzzled expression.

But at that exact moment, from the bushes behind the Coiling Snake, a giant snake suddenly reared up.

Uncle Gui Fa instantly froze, his legs feeling as if they were filled with lead, making it impossible to move.

"Get back..." Li Yang’s heart sank. He brandished the wooden stick in his hand and shouted at the great snake, "Hey! Look at me!"

The great snake’s eyes were filled with a vicious light. It seemed to consider the Coiling Snake its meal, and it was furious that Uncle Gui Fa was now coveting its food.

"Come at me, you bastard!" Li Yang knew that if the great snake attacked, Uncle Gui Fa was as good as dead, so he desperately continued to provoke it.

But the great snake paid him no mind, its gaze remaining fixed on Uncle Gui Fa.

Uncle Gui Fa felt like he was about to collapse. Trembling, he said to Li Yang, "Go tell my wife... tell her not to blame you. I’m the one who wanted to come."

As he spoke, the great snake lunged, its mouth gaping wide as it went for Uncle Gui Fa’s neck.

"YOU MOTHERFUCKING SNAKE!" Li Yang bellowed, concentrating his Spiritual Power to the absolute limit.

As if in some form of invisible, telepathic exchange, the incredibly ferocious snake—just as its head shot forward to less than ten centimeters from Uncle Gui Fa’s neck—miraculously stopped.

Its mouth hung wide open, and a putrid, fishy stench wafted out from within.

Uncle Gui Fa nearly fainted from the smell.

’What’s going on? It stopped.’

Uncle Gui Fa was stunned for a moment, then scrambled frantically toward Li Yang. Only when he was a safe distance from the great snake did he relax, but he asked in astonishment, "What was that about? Why did it just stop?"

Li Yang breathed a sigh of relief. "You’re right," he said. "It’s stopped for now."

As he spoke, Li Yang actually started to slowly walk forward.

"Xiaoli, don’t go near it!" Uncle Gui Fa yelled in alarm.

But Li Yang paid him no mind. He walked right up to the great snake and even reached out to touch its head.

The great snake seemed to understand. It closed its mouth and even gently nudged Li Yang’s hand with its head.

The gesture was incredibly intimate.

"My God... am I seeing things?" Uncle Gui Fa was dumbfounded.

He knew a lot about snakes. They were cold-blooded animals; it was impossible for them to form an emotional connection with a person.

But now, it looked completely at ease with Li Yang, as if they were old friends. ’What the hell is going on?’

Li Yang, however, just smiled faintly. He knew he now had the great snake under his control. "Don’t come so close to the village anymore," he said to it. "Go farther away. That way, you won’t scare the villagers, and you won’t give others a reason to come after you. Go on now."
