Chapter 88: 88. Small city Velhert

"Do you guys know anything about illusion magic?" Kaileon asked that morning, as they were all continuing their journey.

Jessica closed her book, then peered out the window of the horse-drawn carriage and answered Kaileon’s question.

"It’s a very, very rare kind of magic, Kaileon, and unfortunately, only someone with a talent for both dark and light magic can perform it. It’s clearly incredibly powerful and probably only appears once every hundred years or so. It’s almost as rare as your magic, which can buy any object from various worlds. People who possess that magic usually have other powerful magic as well—like you, who also has healing magic, for example."

Jessica’s answer sent Kai back into a daydream. He could daydream and think about anything freely because he was sitting behind Jo, who was riding the horse.

"Do you know anyone who has illusion magic?" Jessica asked, since Kai didn’t answer her right away.

Kai shook his head. "No, it just popped into my head out of the blue, haha. Unfortunately, I can’t have that kind of magic, though."

In fact, Kai couldn’t even buy it from the supermarket system. It was only then that Kai realized not all types of magic could be purchased by completing missions as usual.

[Permission granted to address your concern, master!]

Kai was relieved when his AI assistant, Aery, appeared to explain. Since Aery was an integral part of the supermarket system, she knew a great deal about it.

[All magic or skills that you can easily obtain simply by completing missions are magic or skills that are truly suited to you]

[Unfortunately, you can’t obtain everything, because your body will have a hard time adapting to new abilities that aren’t a good fit]

[The consequences would be disastrous if you push yourself too hard, Master]

Uh, it’s too bad Kai can’t have them. But that’s okay—Kai can still study that magic to find out what an illusion spell can do.

Time flies once you get used to it, and that was true for Kai as well, since at first he felt the journey was moving very slowly and worried it would take a long time to reach the empire. It turned out that once he got used to it, time flew by incredibly fast.

They had already reached a small town close to the empire, so they stopped there and rested at the most expensive inn.

Although it was a small town, it was ruled by a young duke who was the emperor’s brother.

Duke Velhert.

The town was actually a stone town, built on land that had been scorched by the war against the demons several decades ago.

For decades, that vast expanse of land lay barren; not a single plant grew there.

Nevertheless, the Emperor’s younger brother, who had been tasked with rebuilding the town about ten years ago, was now beginning to show tangible results.

In just five years, the Emperor’s younger brother—who was granted the title of Duke—has transformed the small town into an attractive tourist destination.

Many people have come to live there and do business. Various lodgings have been built, making it a very successful small town.

The town was built with extraordinarily beautiful architecture; all the buildings are personally supervised by the Duke—and rumor has it, even designed by him.

One of the reasons Kaileon couldn’t wait to come to the empire was that he wanted to meet Duke Velhert in person—a man who was still only twenty-seven years old and unmarried.

Kaileon wanted to know how the Duke had created buildings with such extraordinary architecture, so neatly arranged, and even the streets felt so modern.

It reminded Kai of cities like London back on Earth.

Kai, already in his room at the inn, opened the large window.

A gentle breeze blew in, caressing his face and hair.

It was already nighttime by the time he arrived at the luxurious inn managed by Duke Velhert. However, the night view of the artificial lake in the center of the city was simply too beautiful to pass up.

The artificial lake was quite large, bordered by rocks surrounding it. It was also equipped with lights on tall poles, which made the lake area brighter at night. And the most interesting feature was the small castle built in the middle of the artificial lake.

The castle is merely a display—it’s truly beautiful and illuminated by the lights. Surrounding the small castle, which measures only about 2×2 meters with a height of about three meters, are many yellow-glowing lotus flowers. This type of lotus blooms and glows only at night. It’s a rare flower and is used as a herbal remedy.

Of course, a luxury hotel with such a beautiful view comes at a high price, but money was no object for Kai.

"Young master, would you like dinner delivered to your room, or would you prefer to go to the restaurant like the princesses?" asked Ricky, who had arrived with Jo.

Kai turned around, looking at the two of them with a thoughtful expression.

"Hmm, who’s going to the restaurant?" Kai asked, approaching his two servants.

"Princess Angeline, Princess Jessica, Jeny... basically, everyone except the three of us. Since you look tired, we figured you wouldn’t want to go to the restaurant," replied Jo.

Kai nodded. "You’re right. I don’t want to go to the restaurant or eat in my room—I want to sneak out and take a walk around here. I’m already dressed in plain clothes, so what are we waiting for? Let’s go!"

Jo and Ricky hurriedly followed Kaileon as he stepped out of his room.

Kai had deliberately dressed casually so no one would recognize him as a noble, allowing him to roam more freely around the city of Velhert.

"I can sense there are a lot of people selling food around here. Is there a festival or something?" Kai asked.

"Nathan said there’s a harvest festival going on in this city. He said they’ve successfully managed their farms using water magic, and that most people here have a basic talent for water magic," said Jo.

"Is that like hydroponics?" Kai muttered.

"Did you say something, young master?" Jo asked again.

Kai shook his head. "No. You should find out more about this town, okay? I’m really interested."

They had arrived at the harvest festival, where the townspeople were selling their crops—both whole and processed into food or drinks. But generally, all the crops were sold as food or drinks; it was very rare for anyone to sell them whole.

"Are you interested in our steamed sweet potatoes?" asked one of the vendors, after noticing Kai stop and stare at the steamed sweet potatoes there.

Kai immediately approached and pointed to the ones he wanted to buy.

"I’ll take this one, this one, and that one! Three of each."

"Sure, sir!"

After Kai received the steamed yellow, purple, and white sweet potatoes, the crowd suddenly became very excited upon seeing someone new arrive.

Kai narrowed his eyes to see who had come.

A handsome young man who looked dashing and charismatic despite his simple appearance smiled and greeted almost everyone.

Then the young man’s gaze fell on Kaileon; he paused for a moment before smiling again and greeting him.

"Kaileon Arslan, right? I just heard you’d arrived, but why are you here? I’ve already prepared a banquet at the restaurant," said the young man, who was undoubtedly Duke Velhert, the city’s leader.
