Chapter 390: Chapter 387: The Academy’s Situation

At this thought, Feng Hao finally snapped back to his senses and looked at Lu Wen Jie in astonishment. "You mean...?"

"Mhm," Lu Wen Jie said with a slight smile, pressing his lips together. "It’s more or less what you’re thinking, though there might be a few minor differences."

"Good heavens, doesn’t that make you invincible?" Feng Hao exclaimed in shock.

"Not quite invincible." Lu Wen Jie gave Feng Hao a meaningful look and said with a faint smile, "At the very least, when Brother Feng reaches the sixth rank, you’ll definitely be stronger than me."

Feng Hao paused, a bit wary. "Can you see something about me?"

Lu Wen Jie couldn’t help but laugh. "Not at all. I just have a feeling that you’re no simple man, Brother Feng."

"Good, that’s good." Feng Hao let out a long sigh of relief. He then studied Lu Wen Jie seriously for a moment before frowning and asking, "By the way, what’s your situation now? Don’t tell me you’ve actually joined the True God Sect."

Hearing this, Lu Wen Jie gazed distantly at the sky and said meaningfully, "For me, staying in the True God Sect is the only way to advance further."

"Alright." Feng Hao frowned slightly and continued, "You’re here to capture us, aren’t you?"

"That’s right." Lu Wen Jie nodded with a light chuckle.

"Then what are you planning to do?" Feng Hao asked, his expression growing somber.

Lu Wen Jie just smiled faintly and said, "Brother Feng, you saved my life. Wen Jie would never capture you. However, I must give you a warning. The Root Cutting Sect has brought many experts and is well-prepared this time. It would be best for you to be careful, Brother Feng."

Hearing this, a look of relief appeared on Feng Hao’s face. "Good. I knew I wasn’t wrong about you."

Lu Wen Jie smiled faintly and waved his hand. "Brother Feng, you should go now. Delays could lead to complications."

"Alright, I’ll remember this favor." Feng Hao nodded with a smile and started to leave with Yun Jiansong. But after just a few steps, he seemed to remember something, turned back, and asked, "If you just let us go, how will you explain this when you get back?"

"My standing in the True God Sect is decent enough. It won’t be a problem," Lu Wen Jie said with a faint smile.

"Is that so?" Feng Hao gave Lu Wen Jie a surprised glance, then hesitated no longer and quickly departed with Yun Jiansong.

After watching the two disappear into the distance, Lu Wen Jie’s expression returned to its usual cold indifference. He frowned, glanced toward the encampment, and with a wave of his hand, condensed three streams of black Sword Qi. He then directed the Sword Qi to strike his own body.

The next moment, Lu Wen Jie’s Qi Blood plummeted. He spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, his face turning deathly pale.

’This should be enough,’ Lu Wen Jie mused to himself before turning and rushing back toward the encampment.

...

Meanwhile, after the chaos Feng Hao had caused, the Root Cutting Sect’s offensive had noticeably weakened.

First, the cannon fire that had bombarded the city all night had ceased. Second, many of the Root-cutting Mages attacking within the city had been recalled. After all, the Mages back at the camp had been completely incapacitated by the "Endless Purge." It would take them at least two or three days to recover.

After parting ways with Lu Wen Jie, Feng Hao and Yun Jiansong rushed back to the Five Provinces Academy without stopping. Along the way, they encountered several scattered Root-cutting Mages, but they dealt with them all jointly.

Unlike the chaos of the previous night, under the leadership of the instructors and academy heads, the Five Provinces Academy was now united as one. The various departments worked together in concert, forming a force that could not be underestimated.

By the time the two reached the main combat department, the first wave of the Root Cutting Sect’s attack had just receded.

After the fierce battle overnight, the students of every department had suffered heavy casualties and were exhausted.

Vice Dean Xuchang and the Elders were on a high platform, earnestly directing the ongoing resistance. "Medical students, hurry and treat the wounded! Alchemist students, don’t be stingy! Contribute all your elixirs. We’ll reimburse you with academic credits afterward."

"Array students, don’t just stand there! The enemy isn’t attacking right now, so use this time to construct Defensive Arrays and traps."

"Right, the civilian casualties in the city must be significant as well. Teacher Yu, take a group of medical students into the city to rescue people. Try to evacuate the ordinary citizens and Low-level Mages to the academy," Xuchang ordered after a moment’s thought.

The medical department’s Instructor Yu hesitated. "Saving people is no problem, but our department’s combat strength..."

"Don’t worry about that, we’ll definitely send people to protect you." Xuchang chuckled, then turned to the noisy reinforcements from the Thief God Hall. "Friends from the Thief God Hall, thank you for your help. We’ll have to ask you to escort the medical team."

"No problem, we’re experts at escort missions." The thieves from the Thief God Hall grinned and swaggered over to the medical team. Their demeanor was just like a gang of bandits, causing the young female medical students to shrink back in fear.

"Don’t be scared, little ladies! Your ’Thief Uncles’ will protect you!" a few of the devil-may-care thieves teased.

Instructor Yu frowned slightly. To be honest, she was rather put off by this group from the Thief God Hall. It wasn’t because of their background or any prejudice, but mainly because the character of these thieves was truly questionable.

Of course, her personal feelings aside, the support from the Thief God Hall this time was still highly commendable.

Thinking of this, Instructor Yu hesitated no longer. Under the protection of the members of the Thief God Hall, she led a group of medical Mages out of the academy.

Meanwhile, Xuchang continued to diligently command the academy’s students and teachers. With Sun Yaowen captured, he, as the vice dean, naturally had to shoulder this heavy burden.

Not far away, the still-graceful Elder Yun sat quietly to the side, healing her wounds. Her two disciples, Bai Yin and Xie Xiaoyu, stood by worriedly.

Not long after Feng Hao had left last night, the academy came under a large-scale assault from the Root Cutting Sect. As an Elder, Elder Yun had naturally joined the battle.

Leveraging the power of her [Bone-Eroding Wind Spirit], Elder Yun fought three Ninth-rank Mages at once and managed to repel them, but she sustained considerable injuries herself.

And it wasn’t just Elder Yun; nearly all the Elders were injured to varying degrees. One young Tier Eight Elder had even been killed in action.

In short, last night’s battle had been incredibly difficult. If the Root Cutting Sect hadn’t inexplicably halted their attack this morning, the situation could have been far worse.

"Master, how are you? Are you feeling any better?" Bai Yin’s face was haggard, her beautiful eyes filled with worry.

Elder Yun slowly opened her eyes, shook her head with a bitter smile, and said in a weak voice, "It’s no use. The Secret Techniques of those sect experts are very strange. Although I’ve refilled my Qi Blood, my life force shows no signs of recovering at all."

"How can that be? You’ve taken so many Healing Elixirs," Bai Yin said, her eyes frantic with anxiety.

Elder Yun gave a helpless, bitter smile. "Healing Medicine is highly dependent on its grade. Especially for a Ninth-rank Mage like me, once injured, low-level Healing Medicine has little to no effect."

"Then can’t we just find some high-level Healing Medicine?" Xie Xiaoyu said, blinking her eyes.

"You silly girl, where would we find high-level elixirs so easily? If Dean Sun were here, it would be a different story. But his fate is unknown, and there isn’t a single decent Eighth-level Alchemist in the academy right now." Elder Yun patted Xie Xiaoyu’s head, shaking her own with a sigh.
