The Speedrun Begins with Choosing Hunter
Chapter 445 - 414: Death of the Golden Crow
Chapter 445: Chapter 414: Death of the Golden Crow
In an unnamed valley on Red Fruit Ridge.
A giant crow, as tall as a man and covered in black and gold feathers, was ravenously devouring the Red Fruits around it.
The Red Fruits here were vastly different from those elsewhere on Red Fruit Ridge; they had a faint golden hue.
The Golden Crow ate with relish.
While these Red Fruits were useless to the Barbarian People and other Great Demons, they were a great restorative for it.
Of course, not all Red Fruits were useful to it.
Before it became a spirit, when it was just an ordinary, motley-feathered crow, it had stumbled into this Red Fruit Forest and mistakenly ingested the fruits here.
To its surprise, the Sun Essence contained within these Red Fruits far surpassed others, even rivaling that of Spirit Fruits.
Driven almost entirely by instinct, it had remained in this Red Fruit Forest for fifty years.
Fortunately, this Red Fruit Forest was a useless place to other Great Demons and beasts, so it had the entire mountain forest to itself.
An ordinary demon would need at least a century to become a spirit, yet it had taken only a mere fifty years.
Even more miraculously, by eating these Red Fruits, it had awakened the Golden Crow bloodline.
Afterward, relying on its formidable Golden Crow bloodline, it progressed with unstoppable momentum, eventually becoming a Great Demon feared throughout all of Cang Mang Mountain.
In a way, Red Fruit Ridge was the very place where it had risen to power.
Once a demon becomes a spirit, its intelligence is extremely high. Although the Crow Spirit knew this Red Fruit Ridge was a treasure trove for it, it didn’t brazenly claim the Red Fruit Forest as its own. Instead, it guarded it in secret.
If it had truly occupied this Red Fruit Forest, it would have attracted the prying eyes of other Great Demons.
So, for all these years, it had been secretly guarding this forest.
For the past millennium, aside from its time at the Cang Lake Shore, it had spent most of its days here.
"Ah, satisfying!"
The Golden Crow flapped its wings, and a fierce wind swept up the surrounding Red Fruits, funneling them into its beak.
With its current power as a Tier Eight Great Demon, ordinary Red Fruits had long been useless to it, but the few that were on par with Spirit Fruits were still of great benefit.
That this mountain forest could support a Tier Eight Great Demon was a miracle in itself, though it was just enough for it alone.
The brutality of competition in the Demon Race was far more cruel and direct than that of the Human Race.
As the Golden Crow ate, it plotted how to kill that Profound Person.
If Big Beard hadn’t interfered last time, it, along with Four-Unlike and the Vice Tower Master of the Soul-Chasing Tower, would have slain that Profound Person long ago.
After that great battle, it was filled with a sense of crisis.
That Profound Person’s power was simply too immense. Before, it had taken the combined might of three masters to suppress him, but if it were to face him alone, the outcome would surely be tragic.
It was not a human, but the Demon Race had its own laws of survival.
Letting an enemy escape was the most foolish thing one could do, to say nothing of an enemy capable of killing it.
Thinking of this, the Golden Crow cursed, "Damn that Big Beard!"
If it weren’t for Big Beard, it wouldn’t be hiding in this Red Fruit Forest now; it would have long since returned to its cave by Cang Lake to absorb the essence of the sun and moon.
The more it thought, the angrier it became.
Two hundred years ago, Cang Lake had been a wonderful place where it could slaughter without restraint. But ever since that Big Beard arrived at Cang Lake, everything had changed.
Now, if it wanted to kill people, it had to travel a thousand li away from Cang Lake to do so.
Because any demon that had previously dared to start a rampage at Cang Lake had been pounded into meat paste by Big Beard’s fists.
And this time, it was because of Big Beard again!
The Golden Crow’s fury reached its peak, but unfortunately, it was no match for Big Beard at all.
It had lived for a millennium and had never seen a Barbarian as ferocious as Big Beard; it had been utterly suppressed the entire time.
Just as the Golden Crow was lost in thought, its chewing of the Red Fruits suddenly stopped.
A few Red Fruits fell from its beak.
A figure had appeared not far from it at some unknown time, watching it with a half-smile.
"A Profound Person?!"
The Golden Crow was horrified when it got a clear look at the man’s face.
’Speak of the devil.’ It had just been thinking about how to kill this Profound Person to prevent retaliation, and now the human had shown up at its doorstep ahead of schedule.
’Damn it!’
The Golden Crow began to panic.
Neither Four-Unlike nor the Vice Tower Master of the Soul-Chasing Tower was here. On its own, it was no match for this Profound Person.
Bai Yuan took two steps forward and grinned.
"Long time no see."
He and Gu Ta had searched Red Fruit Ridge for three full days and nights, finally locating the Golden Crow with the overbearing power of the Ten Thousand Demons Painting.
He had to admit, the Golden Crow’s methods of hiding were truly brilliant.
The Golden Crow watched Bai Yuan warily.
It had no time to ponder how this Profound Person had found it. Right now, all it wanted to do was escape!
WHOOSH!
The next second, a furious gale erupted in the mountain forest, uprooting the surrounding trees and kicking up a sky-blotting cloud of dust.
SWOOSH!
Almost at the same instant the gale began, a streak of black light shot out from the chaos, piercing straight toward the heavens.
"Trying to run?"
A voice like Yama come to claim a soul rang out.
The Golden Crow glanced down, only to discover with terror that the Profound Person’s flying speed was not the least bit slower than its own?!!
’Reversed Celestial Spirits?’
As a Great Demon that was a bird spirit, and one possessing the Golden Crow bloodline at that, it was theoretically a king of the skies. Even if it couldn’t defeat this Profound Person, it should at least be able to completely dominate him when it came to flight.
But that wasn’t the case. That Profound Person’s speed was also absurdly fast.
Bai Yuan’s eyes were sharp as he stuck close behind the Golden Crow.
The reason he could keep up with the Golden Crow came down to human ingenuity being a step ahead.
If not for that one Daoist Sect Ancestor who insisted on flying to the heavens to see if there were gods, he would never have created a heaven-defying Lightweight Technique like the Cloud Ladder Leap.
