Chapter 411: Chapter 398: Divine Mansion Entrance
「In the forbidden grounds of the Dragon Tiger Sect, outside a mountain cave.」
Bai Yuan had just stopped when he heard the Qilin’s angry roar from within the cave—a unique sound that was not quite bull, not quite tiger.
Even an experienced Hunter had never heard anything so peculiar.
Elder Pei said calmly, "That Qilin Demon has been roaring for days, nonstop."
Bai Yuan nodded.
He had an agreement with the Qilin Demon that it would summon him with a continuous roar.
White fur quickly sprouted all over his body until he had transformed into a large, white-haired, barefoot ape.
Even upon seeing Bai Yuan use this demon-emulating cultivation technique again, Elder Pei still found it miraculous.
Demon Hunters were truly a class of their own. Created by the earliest members of the Human Race to hunt great demons, the profession had its own unique strengths. While completely different from the current Martial Dao, it could also be considered its ancestor.
Transforming from human to demon—Elder Pei knew he was incapable of such a feat. In fact, those in this world who still possessed this skill were nearly extinct.
Bai Yuan spoke, "Elder, I’m going in."
Elder Pei waved his hand.
Bai Yuan strode into the cave, moving with a familiar ease.
The Qilin Demon was no longer lying on the ground as before. Instead, it stood in the cave, demonic energy surging from its body.
When it saw Bai Yuan appear, it finally spoke. "White Ape, what took you so long?"
Bai Yuan replied, "Qilin, I was being hunted by powerful members of the Human Race. It took everything I had to finally shake them."
When the Qilin Demon heard Bai Yuan call it ’Qilin’ again, most of its anger dissipated.
But hearing that those detestable members of the Human Race were once again harming its kind, the Qilin grew furious. "Those damn humans!"
It had been trapped in this cave for ages. Before, it had only ever sensed the occasional, terrifyingly powerful human aura, but it had never expected the world to be dominated by a race that delighted in scheming and plotting.
How utterly absurd.
But then it remembered that it, too, had been captured and brought here by a powerful human, and its anger deflated.
Bai Yuan scanned the cave but found nothing out of the ordinary. "Qilin, why did you summon me?"
"Has that human appeared?"
The Qilin shook its head. "No."
Hearing this only made Bai Yuan more confused.
’If the Demon Seed hasn’t appeared, why did the Qilin Demon summon me?’
A smug look appeared on the Qilin’s face. "This Demon King hasn’t been stuck here all this time for nothing. Although that human hasn’t appeared, I’ve discovered that a strange phenomenon occurs in this cave once every hundred years. It’s very faint, but it couldn’t escape the eyes of this Demon King."
Bai Yuan was taken aback. "A strange phenomenon?"
The Qilin nodded, pointing to a corner of the cave with its right forehoof. "Right there."
Bai Yuan looked in the direction the Qilin was pointing.
He observed carefully for a long time before he finally noticed something odd. The demonic energy there was thicker than anywhere else.
"Qilin, do you like to piss in that corner?"
"White Ape, this Demon King is starting to like you a lot less."
As a Demon Hunter, Bai Yuan’s perception of demonic energy was extremely keen, which was why he could spot the anomaly. Otherwise, even someone like Elder Pei might not have noticed any difference.
This was a perfect example of specialized expertise.
However, in Bai Yuan’s experience, the difference in demonic energy was minuscule.
It could just be that the Qilin liked to sleep there, or perhaps used it as a latrine; either could cause a local increase in demonic energy.
Somewhat annoyed, the Qilin led the White Ape to the spot it had indicated.
"There’s a passage here."
Bai Yuan was shocked. "A passage?!"
The Qilin nodded, its eyes flashing with excitement. "Yes, I remember this feeling. That human told me to guard his palace for him. This is the entrance to that palace."
"!!!!"
Bai Yuan was stunned.
He had originally thought he would only encounter the Demon Seed, but he never expected the Qilin to be holding back something this huge.
’The entrance to the Divine Mansion!’
That phrase alone held an endless fascination for him.
"Then why don’t you go in?"
Then it dawned on Bai Yuan.
The Qilin sounded helpless. "That detestable human placed a restriction on me. I can’t enter."
Bai Yuan understood.
’He figured that powerful ancient human expert didn’t want the Qilin to know the secrets within the Divine Mansion.’
"Alright, then how do we get in?"
The Qilin replied, "How would I know?"
"..."
’I asked the wrong person again,’ Bai Yuan thought.
He pondered for a moment, then cautiously approached the corner.
Upon closer inspection, there was nothing but gravel and an earthen wall. The only thing special about it was, perhaps, the demonic energy the Qilin had mentioned.
He searched for a long time but found nothing.
Left with no other choice, he temporarily left the cave to find the more knowledgeable Elder Pei for help.
After hearing Bai Yuan’s account, Elder Pei’s brow furrowed slightly.
"A Mustard Seed Can Contain Mount Sumeru?"
Hearing this, Bai Yuan was even more shocked.
"A Mustard Seed Can Contain Mount Sumeru" is a Buddhist saying, meaning that something as tiny as a mustard seed can contain a whole Mount Sumeru.
Legend has it that this is a peerless Great Divine Power of the Buddhist Family, a technique only the Buddha of ancient times possessed.
This was a power beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
Elder Pei was also startled by his own speculation.
’Could it be that the legendary Buddha once visited my home turf of Dragon Tiger Mountain?’
’If that were true, then the Dragon Tiger Sect wouldn’t just be the Daoist Ancestral Court, but also a Buddhist holy land... What a mess that would be.’
Elder Pei thought long and hard for a while before his eyes lit up. "I have a method we could try."
"What method?"
Bai Yuan was pleasantly surprised. ’Elder Pei really does have a lot of tricks up his sleeve,’ he thought. ’As they say, the older the ginger, the spicier it is.’
Elder Pei said, "If it is indeed ’A Mustard Seed Can Contain Mount Sumeru,’ then it must be related to Buddhist cultivation techniques. We might as well try various Buddhist Divine Powers one by one. Perhaps we can find the entrance that way."
