Chapter 618: Chapter 621: I Never Want to See You Again

Mrs. Xie hadn’t believed a word Hua Manman said, but when Lu Wanqing produced the Jade Pearl, she was forced to accept the cruel reality.

She clutched the Jade Pearl tightly, listening as Hua Manman recounted the story of Lu Man’s death.

Tears slid silently down her cheeks.

When she finished, Hua Manman let out a long sigh.

"I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hidden this from you for so long."

Mrs. Xie was already sobbing uncontrollably.

She asked through her sobs, "What about Amang’s body?"

Lu Wanqing said, holding back her own grief.

"I went to our family’s ancestral burial ground to check.

I found a new grave there, one without a headstone.

I had my men open the grave to see.

The body in the coffin had long since decomposed, but many of her burial goods were inside.

They were all things my sister loved when she was alive."

Mrs. Xie pushed herself up from the table, struggling to her feet.

"I want to see Amang."

Lu Wanqing rushed to support her. "I’ll go with you."

Hua Manman watched them leave.

A servant came running in.

"Reporting to the Young Master! Yue Niang is leaving!"

Hua Manman asked, "Where is she going?"

"I don’t know, either. Yue Niang just packed a couple of outfits and is heading for the side gate. She said she wants to leave, but she didn’t say where she’s going."

Hua Manman stood up. "Take me there."

Near the side gate, Yue Niang stood with a bundle in her hand.

She tried to walk out but was blocked by the gatekeepers.

The gatekeepers knew Yue Niang was one of the Young Master’s attendants. They were afraid of being blamed if she left, so no matter what she said, they refused to open the gate for her.

The little calico cat kept rubbing its head against the hem of Yue Niang’s skirt, as if trying to make her stay.

But Yue Niang was unmoved. She didn’t even spare it a glance.

As they were locked in a stalemate, Hua Manman hurried over.

"Yue Niang, where are you going?"

With her back to Hua Manman, Yue Niang clutched her bundle tightly and replied stiffly.

"I’ll go wherever I please. It has nothing to do with you!"

Seeing they had things to discuss, the gatekeepers and servants tactfully moved away.

The little calico cat meowed insistently at Hua Manman.

’Quick, help me make her stay! Her cat food is delicious!’

Hua Manman walked around to face Yue Niang and spoke sincerely.

"If there’s somewhere you want to go, I can arrange for a carriage and have someone escort you. You shouldn’t travel alone. You might run into trouble."

Yue Niang gave a cold laugh. "Even if I stay here, aren’t I still looking at a bad person?"

Hua Manman rubbed her nose, abashed.

"What can I do to help you calm down?"

Yue Niang pressed her lips together, silent.

’Even she didn’t know what to do next.’

’She just felt this suffocating anger bottled up inside.’

’If she couldn’t let it out, she felt like she would suffocate.’

The little calico cat continued to meow at Hua Manman.

MEOW! MEOW!

’Can’t you see she’s furious?’

’You have to find a way to soothe her!’

’Unleash your scummy girl skills!’

Hua Manman ignored the little calico cat’s commentary and said earnestly.

"Yue Niang, if you have any plans, you can tell me. As long as it’s within my power, I will help you."

With red-rimmed eyes, Yue Niang shouted angrily.

"I don’t want anything else right now! I just want to leave this place, get far away from you, and never see you again!"

Hua Manman tried to reason with her gently.

"There’s no problem with you leaving, but it’s getting late. You won’t get far even if you walk out that gate now.

Why don’t you stay in the Prince Mansion for one more night? I’ll get you something to eat and drink, as a sort of farewell meal. How about it?"

Yue Niang fell silent again.

Hua Manman said, "I lied to you for so long. Don’t you want to take your anger out on me? You could, for example, order me around to serve you tea, pour you water, or cook you a meal."

Yue Niang turned her face away. "I get angry just looking at you."

Hua Manman immediately promised, "I’ll make sure you don’t have to see my face again!"

Yue Niang still didn’t move.

Hua Manman circled her, hands clasped together in a constant plea.

"Pretty lady, please, please give me a chance to make it up to you, okay?"

No matter which way Yue Niang turned, Hua Manman followed, staying in her line of sight.

Hua Manman’s persistence wore her down. With a tense expression, Yue Niang finally said,

"I’ll stay for just one more night. I’m leaving at dawn tomorrow."

Hua Manman nodded hurriedly. "Okay, okay!"

Yue Niang returned to her room, bundle in hand.

Hua Manman and the little calico cat trailed right behind her.

"Remember what you said! Don’t let me see your face again!" With that, Yue Niang shut the door.

The little calico cat looked up at Hua Manman and meowed.

’Look at this mess you’ve made! You’ve chased off my personal poop-scooper!’

Hua Manman raised an eyebrow. "You’ve already accepted Yue Niang as your poop-scooper?"

The little calico cat flicked its tail up.

MEOW! MEOW!

’Not only is she beautiful and a great cook, but she’s also super gentle! She’s my ideal poop-scooper! I like her soooo much!’

Remembering the cat food Yue Niang had made for it, the cat practically drooled with emotion.

Hua Manman went to the kitchen, planning to cook dinner herself as an apology to Yue Niang.

As she prepared the ingredients, she spoke to the little calico cat.

"Little Flower, go out and buy something for me."

Little Flower was perched on the kitchen windowsill, tail swaying lazily, looking far too comfortable to move.

It yawned at Hua Manman’s words.

MEEEOOOW~

’I’m just a little kitty who doesn’t know anything. How can you expect me to run errands for you?’

Hua Manman brandished a cleaver and brought it down on a fish head with a single chop.

Blood spattered!

"Are you going?"

Little Flower shot to its feet, its ears flattened in fright.

MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!

’Going, going, I’m going! I’ll go, alright?!’

Hua Manman took out ten copper coins, put them in a small pouch, and hung it around Little Flower’s neck.

"Go buy a mask for me."

Little Flower twisted its neck, unaccustomed to the pouch.

’Meow. What kind of mask do you want?’

Hua Manman replied, "Just get a nice-looking one."

Little Flower strutted out of the kitchen with a light, feline gait.

As soon as it was gone, Hua Manman clutched her right arm, hissing in pain.

The wound on her arm hadn’t healed yet, and the force of the chop had caused it to tear open slightly.

Lifting her sleeve, she saw a spot of dark red already seeping through the gauze.

’The wound isn’t deep, so it should be fine,’ Hua Manman thought, not dwelling on it.

Once the wave of pain subsided, she picked up the cleaver again and began to fillet the fish.

She had also prepared several other ingredients.

She planned to make a steaming hot pot.

’Deep winter is the best time for hot pot!’

As the sky outside began to darken, Hua Manman had someone prepare the necessary items for the hot pot.

Little Flower finally returned.

It dropped the mask it was carrying in its mouth onto the table.

MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!

’Here’s your thing!’

’I had to search all over the place to buy this stupid mask for you.’

’It totally exhausted this meow!’
