Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Sowing Discord and Slinging Mud
Yang Zhigang smiled. "And that’s if it goes quickly. If things drag on, it could take two or three years!"
Han Xiaorui frowned slightly. "Okay, Brother Jianguo, please talk to Village Chief Liu for me. If he’s willing to sell, I’m interested in buying."
Yang Jianguo nodded. "Alright, I’ll talk to Village Chief Liu. We’ll also have to inspect the boat. You can only buy it if there are no problems."
Yang Zhigang thought for a moment. "Knowing Wu Guangfu, he won’t sell that boat unless he’s truly at the end of his rope. You’ll probably have to wait a few more months."
Han Xiaorui nodded. "Okay. I’m not in a hurry, anyway. It’ll give me time to spend with my sister."
This trip gave Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo a new perspective on Han Xiaorui.
Meanwhile, Liu Ming was on his bicycle, watching his boss and his boss’s nephew board Han Xiaorui’s boat together and speed away.
He pedaled his bicycle furiously back to the seafood wholesale market.
"Boss’s wife! Big news! The boss and his nephew, Yang Jianguo, got on Han Xiaorui’s boat and took off!" Liu Ming, who already looked a bit sleazy, deliberately spoke in a suggestive tone.
Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo were up to something illicit!
Zhang Xiufang’s face went pale with anger and her hands trembled. She wanted to go and tear Han Xiaorui to shreds right then and there, but then she remembered how Han Xiaorui had reported her to the police last time.
If she caused a scene without any proof, she might just get arrested again.
Zhang Xiufang racked her brain, and then her eyes lit up. She ran back inside to call Wu Cuicui.
Wu Cuicui was at home washing shoes. It had rained a couple of days ago, and her shoes were all dirty.
Hearing the phone ring, Wu Cuicui hurried over to answer it. "Second Aunt, what’s up?"
Zhang Xiufang was fuming. "Cuicui, aren’t you going to do something about Jianguo?"
The moment Wu Cuicui heard this, the veins on her forehead bulged.
’This aunt is trying to stir up trouble!’
"Second Aunt, what is it? Just tell me!" Wu Cuicui suppressed her anger, trying her best to remain calm.
Zhang Xiufang huffed angrily, "Your second uncle, that shameless old man, got on Han Xiaorui’s boat with Jianguo, right in front of everyone, and they just took off."
"That shameless Han Xiaorui doesn’t even know how to avoid suspicion, being on a boat with two men. You’re Jianguo’s wife; you need to have a good talk with him. You’re so nice to Han Xiaorui, yet she’s making a move on your man. Aren’t you angry?"
Wu Cuicui was stunned. After hearing Zhang Xiufang out, she was so furious the blood rushed to her head. "Second Aunt, how can you talk about Second Uncle like that? He’s an upright man; he wouldn’t mess around. My Jianguo is a good man, too. He’d never do anything like that."
’Han Xiaorui has money and looks now. If she’s looking for a partner, she wouldn’t stoop to poaching from her own backyard and going after a married man!’
’Now Second Aunt is actually trying to sow discord. She doesn’t dare to provoke Han Xiaorui herself, so she’s trying to incite a fight between me and her!’
But Wu Cuicui was no fool. She wasn’t going to let her aunt use her as a pawn.
"Cuicui, are you stupid? You’re not as pretty as Han Xiaorui, and you don’t make as much money. By the time she snatches your man, it’ll be too late for tears," Zhang Xiufang blurted out, speaking without a filter.
Wu Cuicui was so mad she could spit. "Second Aunt, you don’t need to worry about that. Jianguo says I’m the most beautiful woman in his eyes."
"You may not trust Second Uncle, but I trust Jianguo. Stop spreading nonsense, or Second Uncle will beat you when he gets back. I’ll ask Jianguo when he returns and call you then."
With that, Wu Cuicui angrily hung up the phone.
’Second Aunt just said that Second Uncle and Jianguo boarded Han Xiaorui’s boat at the docks in front of everyone. That’s even more proof that nothing was going on.’
’If there really was some hanky-panky, they would do it sneakily. Who would dare to be so brazen about it in public?’
Wu Cuicui went back to her chores, waiting for Yang Jianguo to come home.
She and Yang Jianguo had married for love, and after all these years, their relationship was still very strong.
They never fought, hadn’t even raised their voices at each other. Their bond was solid!
And with their precious daughter, Wu Cuicui had complete confidence in her family.
When they returned, the people at the docks were curious, waiting for Han Xiaorui, Yang Zhigang, and Yang Jianguo.
The moment the boat docked, someone asked, "Zhigang, you left in such a hurry. Did you go off to secretly sell some good stuff?"
Yang Zhigang laughed heartily and pulled out cigarettes for the crowd. "Just now, Xiao Rui found over two pounds of ambergris, so I took her to sell it!"
Hearing this, everyone’s expression changed dramatically. "Ambergris? Where did you find it?"
"In the sea, of course," Yang Zhigang laughed, not revealing the specific location. "It sold for tens of thousands of yuan, just enough to build an ornamental fish farm in our village."
Han Xiaorui finished mooring the boat, fed the little sea snake a bit of her Water Ability, and headed back with her basket.
Yang Zhigang handled the villagers’ questioning for her. When Han Xiaorui got home, she rode her bicycle to find Liang Xiaoyu so they could get their stories straight.
By the time Han Xiaorui returned home, it was completely dark outside.
"Sis, why are you so late?" Han Xiaoqing asked, her face full of worry. "Did you run into trouble?"
Han Xiaorui shook her head, beaming. "No trouble, it’s great news! I found a huge piece of ambergris today while I was scraping for abalone on the seabed, and it sold for a lot of money. We have the money to buy a house now!"
Hearing this, Han Xiaoqing’s eyes lit up. "Sis, you’re amazing! But it must be so cold and tiring diving to the seabed, right? And you could run into danger sometimes."
Han Xiaorui smiled. "It’s fine. I’m not tired, and I didn’t feel cold. That reef is in a shallow area, so there was no danger."
Han Xiaoqing came over and hugged her sister. She didn’t say a word, but the warm embrace was a huge encouragement to Han Xiaorui.
"I need to go out to sea a lot for a while. When the weather gets bad and the wind picks up, I’ll take you to buy a house." A smile appeared in Han Xiaorui’s eyes. "Get your documents ready. I’m buying a house for you."
"Sis, you don’t have to. Houses are so expensive." Although Han Xiaoqing wanted to settle down in Shencheng, she felt bad about taking something from her sister.
Han Xiaorui waved her hand. "No refusals. This is my gift to you. Don’t overthink it. Just live well and study hard."
"Okay!" The care Han Xiaoqing felt from her sister far surpassed that of their parents.
When Yang Jianguo got home, he was still buzzing with excitement. He shut the door and immediately swept Wu Cuicui into his arms, spinning her around.
Wu Cuicui was just about to ask what was going on when she was hit by the smell of Yang Jianguo’s sweat. "Let go of me! Our daughter’s home!"
Yang Jianguo saw their daughter, who was supposed to be doing her homework, glancing around curiously. He quickly put Wu Cuicui down. "Guess what Xiao Rui found today?"
As soon as Wu Cuicui heard this, she was completely relieved. It was definitely not what Second Aunt had implied. "It must be a rare fish!"
"Not a fish," Yang Jianguo replied, his excitement still not having fully subsided.
"If not a fish, then what?" Wu Cuicui was curious too.
"Ambergris," Yang Jianguo answered. "Second Uncle was worried something would go wrong if we waited, so he immediately called me, and we took Xiao Rui into the city to sell it. It sold for 2.3 million."
