Chapter 580 - 578: Ye Feng Is in Trouble
Chapter 580: Chapter 578: Ye Feng Is in Trouble
Han Xiaorui was astonished. "Uncle, he..."
Old Master Xu replied, "He did it voluntarily, and I’m only telling you this. Besides, this is probably the reason your uncle has never married."
"However, some are now saying that even though your uncle has United States citizenship, he isn’t married and has no children, and his entire family is in Hua Country. They suspect he has divided loyalties. Because of this, after he goes back this time, he might start dating, get married, and have children."
Hearing this, Han Xiaorui fell silent. "Uncle is a great man."
Old Master Xu gave a bitter smile. "Logically, I know what he’s doing is right, but emotionally, I can’t accept it. He’s my only son. Even though he’s always going on about being a bachelor and driving me half-mad, I still just want him to be safe and sound, and healthy."
Hearing this, Han Xiaorui understood Old Master Xu. "Grandpa, since Uncle chose this path, it proves he believes what he’s doing is meaningful. History will treat him justly."
"You have to tell Uncle to lay low and be extremely careful. He must not leak the research and development results prematurely. He has to wait for the right moment, until he’s dispelled their suspicions."
Old Master Xu nodded. "I’ve already told him as much. I hope he takes it to heart. Right now, Western countries are targeting our country in a high-tech assault, specifically in the semiconductor industry."
"I understand. Actually, the country has probably received the news as well. The reason they can’t make progress is a lack of money. With funding, everything else becomes easier to handle."
They chatted in the study for about half an hour before coming out.
Old Madam Xu no longer concerned herself with these matters. All her energy was focused on the children.
At her age, she had limited energy and only focused on what interested her.
Old Master Xu had wanted to give Han Xiaorui money to support the research and development, but she refused.
’Old Master Xu’s finances might already be under surveillance. If she took his money and used it for the semiconductor industry, it would put her uncle in even greater danger in the United States.’
So, Han Xiaorui insisted on not taking it.
In the blink of an eye, the Lantern Festival passed, and the children all went back to school.
Han Xiaorui was still waiting for Ye Feng, but she couldn’t find any news of him no matter how she tried.
His phone was unreachable, which terrified Han Xiaorui.
「Meanwhile, in Africa」
Ye Feng and his colleagues were fighting off rebels.
It was actually a local armed group that had learned of the gold deposit discovered there and wanted to seize it.
The Hua Country side had already made an agreement with the government to develop it together and share the profits.
But the government’s army couldn’t even beat the local rebels. They were pretty pathetic.
With people trying to rob them blind, Ye Feng was naturally not going to stand for it.
The more than one thousand men he had brought with him this time were all hard-asses.
In times of peace, they could work. But when trouble started, they could pick up their weapons and fight.
Originally, these weapons were for self-preservation and were kept in the most secret of locations.
After defeating the first wave of rebels and seizing their weapons, they hid their own weapons away again.
They used the rebels’ own weapons to defeat them. Over a thousand organized, disciplined, and combat-effective veterans against eight thousand of the enemy’s soldiers.
Calling them "soldiers" was giving these rebels too much credit. Many were just part of a slapdash crew who thought they were hot stuff after firing a few shots.
In reality, most of them were just a disorderly mob.
They made their name in a single battle.
All the rebel leaders were killed, and the remaining mid-level members were handed over to the government forces.
After a round of interrogations, they discovered that someone had leaked the news about the gold mine—and it was a Chinese-American.
"Uncle Liu, you’re one of my grandfather’s most trusted people. He sent you here to work, paid you a high salary. Is this how you do your job?"
Liu Deqiang not only wanted the high salary from the Xu family, but he also wanted to get his hands on the gold.
Liu Deqiang hurriedly tried to defend himself and beg for mercy. "I didn’t! They’re framing me! I’ve always been diligent and conscientious, never slacking off, and certainly never betraying my own people!"
Ye Feng threw the evidence down. "Don’t think Africa is so backward that we can’t record you! We can’t just take pictures, we can take video, too!"
"Since you won’t give up, I’ll play it for you! I’d like to see what you have to say for yourself then."
With that, a video began to play on the television.
After watching it, Liu Deqiang, drenched in sweat, collapsed onto the floor.
He never imagined he would have been recorded. Now the evidence was irrefutable, leaving no room for argument.
"Young Master Ye, please spare me. I was possessed by greed. I’ll never dare to do it again!"
Ye Feng sneered. "If I had brought ordinary workers here, we would be the ones who are dead! With you in control of the gold and iron mines, you could not only do whatever you wanted, but you could also embezzle most of the precious metals."
"Winner is king, loser is outlaw. Since you dared to do this, you should have been prepared for the consequences of failure. Did you think I would let you go? Unless..."
Hearing this, Liu Deqiang asked excitedly, "Unless what?"
A faint smile played on Ye Feng’s lips. "Unless you can provide something valuable enough to save your own life! It could be money, or it could be intelligence. Of course, the intelligence must be genuine!"
Liu Deqiang’s heart sank at his words, and he hesitated.
"What intelligence could I possibly have? I was just insatiably greedy! I coveted these gold mines and wanted them for myself. The legitimate way wouldn’t work, so I thought of collaborating with these rebels to steal the gold."
Hearing this, the same faint smile on his face, Ye Feng pulled a dagger from his calf and stabbed it directly into Liu Deqiang’s leg.
"I’m inclined to believe you, but my dagger isn’t convinced."
Back in the day, Ye Feng had faced a storm of bullets and cannon fire on the battlefields of Southern Vietnam without fear. Dealing with Liu Deqiang was child’s play.
Liu Deqiang let out a bloodcurdling scream after being stabbed. He saw murder in Ye Feng’s eyes.
’This couldn’t be the same man who had respectfully called him Uncle Liu before! He was a devil incarnate!’
Liu Deqiang knew that if he didn’t tell the truth, his life would end here.
"I’ll talk, I’ll talk now!" Liu Deqiang answered hurriedly. "It was a Mr. Bill who told me to do this! He believes the Xu family has transferred most of its assets to Hua Country and has them under close surveillance."
Hearing the name Bill, Ye Feng was slightly taken aback and his mind raced. "Anything else?"
Liu Deqiang replied, "That’s all I have on my end. As for whether other managers in the Xu family have been bought out or infiltrated, I have no idea!"
"Hmm?" Ye Feng narrowed his eyes.
Liu Deqiang quickly added, "There must be! After all, the Xu family has so many businesses. Nearly all large corporations that come to invest in Hua Country are subject to surveillance."
"The methods of surveillance are always the same—eavesdropping, infiltration, bribery. Although I know this is happening, we mostly operate on a need-to-know basis. I don’t know who the others are."
Seeing that Liu Deqiang didn’t seem to be lying, Ye Feng finally nodded. "I hope for your sake you’re telling the truth!"
