The Scowling Sidekick: A My Hero Academia Fanfiction
A Birthday Celebration
Aya-chan’s birthday is coming up soon, and I have no idea what to get her. We can basically afford anything now that we have come into money, so it has to be meaningful and not just anything. Whenever I feel this way, I usually talk to her, but aren’t birthday celebrations supposed to be surprises? I lie in bed, pondering what to get her, when she starts to stir. She looks at my face sleepily for a moment, and she says as she stretches and yawns, “Go on and spill it.”
I sigh, hating not being able to keep anything from her, and just rip the band-aid, “I am having difficulties thinking of what to buy you for your birthday. What do you want?” She wraps her arms around me and says in that sexy, sleepy voice of hers, “I want Kai-chan.” I get a nosebleed, and she sexily, sleepily giggles and hands me a tissue from her tattoo, and I stammer, “B-b-but I am already yours, A-aya-chan. What present do you want?” Aya-chan looks like she is thinking while I hold this tissue to my nose, and she says, “Uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh… How about you take me on a vacation to another world? Maybe a place filled with soft, fluffy creatures to give attention to.” I sigh in relief, “I would love that, too. Is it really alright for a gift that I will enjoy, too? Isn’t the point of a birthday to get gifts?”
She lightly flicks my head, “You silly goose. You do realize that you are my gift, right? Anywhere with you is perfect, Kai-chan. As for your enjoyment, doesn’t that make it even better?” I blush furiously at her thoughtful consideration, and stammer, “I-I g-guess.” Aya-chan squeezes me tight, and she says, “I am so glad they are giving us Halloween off from remedial training. This is going to be so much fun!” Sir Floof, Squash, and Garlic seem excited, too, and it makes Aya-chan giggle.
In class, everyone is talking about what they are going to do for Halloween. Toru says, “I really want to show some skin since I can and was thinking of being a sexy police officer.” Mineta blushes furiously, and he surprisingly doesn’t say anything creepy in response. Yaomomo says, “Hmmmm... I was thinking of dressing as a low-time thug.” Of course, the silver-spoon-fed girl would want to pretend to be from the wrong side of the tracks. Kaminari says while wearing a big grin, “I think I am going to be a phone charger. You guys already treat me like one, so I might as well be one.” Everyone laughs, and Jiro dies laughing, pointing at him and says, “You might need to change your hero-name from Chargebolt to PhoneCharger. Hahaha!”
Toru asks the spiky bastard, “Bakugo, who or what are you going as for Halloween?” He says back with lots of attitude, “The strongest.” Kirishima laughs, “I think that is his way of saying that he is just going as himself! So manly, Bakugo!” He yells at Kirishima, “Shut it, you spiky loser!” Yaomomo asks Aya-chan, “Ayaka, what are you and Sekai going to do?” I snapped back, “None of your business.” Aya-chan bonks me slightly on the head and says, “Since it is my birthday, Kai-chan is going to take me on a romantic trip abroad.” Ashido asks, “Are you going to take her to Paris or Venice?” I snapped back again, “None of your business.”
Aya-chan bonked me again, and I pouted, and she put her finger on her mouth and responded to Yaomomo with a wink, “It’s - a - secret.” Mr. Aizawa sighs when he slides the door open and sees everyone rowdy, then says, “Alright, settle down.” Everyone takes their seats and shuts up, and he continues, “First, I want to remind those in remedial training that there will be no training on Halloween. Enjoy your break; however, you will be expected to train on Sunday.” He looks at me, Aya-chan, Todoroki, and the spiky bastard, and Todoroki responds, “We understand, Mr. Aizawa.” Mr. Aizawa then gets the chalk and starts writing on the blackboard, and says, “Great, now let’s start with Hero Informatics today.” It seems we are talking about laws and stuff today, and everybody groans.
Mom and Dad wanted us to go home to celebrate Aya-chan’s birthday after school on Friday, but our classmates wanted to celebrate as well. So, we had the idea of just bringing our parents to the dorms instead. We obviously got the principal’s permission before going along with this. I could only imagine what the security bots would do if they didn’t have permission to be here.
We went home to pick them up, and they were ready with wrapped presents and a cake. I help them by carrying the cake as I teleport everyone back to the dorms. Mom says while we hop into the fifth dimension discreetly, “I should have figured that Sekai would grab the cake. She sure loves her sweets.” I blush furiously and respond flustered, “I am just ensuring that the cake survives until we get there. Isn’t it supposed to be the best part?” Dad says, “I thought getting presents was the best part?”
I shake my head as we hop to the forest around the campus, “No. Though I don’t remember what I received for my 4th birthday in terms of gifts. They don’t stand out in my memory as the cake did.” Aya-chan wraps a tentacle around me in a hug since her arms are full of presents. I finish teleporting everyone, and Mom says, “Put the cake down for a moment.” I set the box of cake down on the dorms' porch, and she pulls me in for a hug while Aya-chan and Dad join in.
Mom says with a slightly breaking voice, “We will always make sure your birthdays have cake. I promise.” I haven’t had a birthday cake in so long. To be honest, I haven’t really cared about it and don’t really have any feelings about it. Birthday cakes were nothing but a pipedream when I had more important worries, like trying to figure out where my next meal was going to be.
Shoji heard us and came out after the hug was finished, picked up the cake, and said, “Let me take this inside. I’ll set it next to Sato’s.” He makes a few extra arms to carry the presents with ease while the nerd holds the door open and says, “Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Kubo. Welcome to our dorms.” Mom wipes the moisture from her eyes, and she says, “How are you doing, Midoriya? How is school?”
He smiles and says, “It certainly has challenges, but it is also very fun.” Mom smiles with the warm smile Aya-chan inherited, the one that melts hearts, and says, “I am glad you kids are having fun.” Dad chimes in, “Hero education is not supposed to be easy. If it were, then everyone would become heroes.” The nerd holds the door open for us, and Mom looks around and asks, “Can you guys give us a quick tour before we start the birthday celebration?” Toru and Tsu volunteer. Mineta seemed conflicted, like he wanted to volunteer but had second thoughts.
I hear Mineta mumbling as Tsu and Toru are giving Mom and Dad the tour of our dorms, “If I volunteered, Kubo would have given me the shits for sure.” I smirk in amusement because he is probably right. Aya-chan would have given him the shits first, without hearing him out, at the first hint of creepiness, because it is our Mom. Toru and Tsu quickly finish giving Mom and Dad the tour of the dorms. Dad asks, “So are we doing cake or presents first?” Mom says, “I think we should leave that answer to the girls of the hour.” I ask, confused, “Girls? Plural?”
Aya-chan hugs my arm and presses her breasts into it, making me blush, and she says, “Remember when you said you didn’t remember when your birthday was?” I nod and ask, “Wait, are you saying that we are celebrating my birth today, too?” She flashes that hero’s smile and nods, “Yep! It was so hard to keep everything from you, because I was so tempted to spill the beans so often. The rest of the class was in on it, too.” I look around and see my classmates smiling at me as if they don’t think my presence is a nuisance. Aya-chan says, “I know what we are doing first.” She drags me and makes me sit down at the table.
They are in the kitchen for a moment, and I hear Aya-chan say, slightly annoyed, “Mom, Dad, did you seriously forget to bring a lighter?” Mom looks at Dad in disappointment, which means that she told him to grab it. Dad apologizes to Aya-chan, “Sorry, baby girl. I remembered the presents, though.” Aya-chan sighs and asks, “Hey, Todoroki, can we borrow you for a second?” He gets up, and I hear Aya-chan ask, “Can we borrow your flames?” Todoroki replies with that same relaxed, cool tone of his, “Yeah, sure.” After a few seconds, he asks, “Is there anything else you need?” I hear Mom say, “That is perfect. Thank you, Todoroki.” Aya-chan takes the seat next to me, and they bring both cakes that are lit up with 16 candles each.
They start singing, “Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear Sekai and Ayakaaaaaaa! Happy birthday to you!” Mom places the cake she made down in front of me and says, “Make a wish, you two.” I am so moved by the cake and the song that I start crying. I didn’t know that I would feel this way. I thought that I was fine. Aya-chan pulls out a tissue from her tattoo, and I wipe my tears and blow the snot from my nose from crying. I hear Bakugo say, “Quit crying, loser, and blow out the damn candles already.” Aya-chan bops him with a tentacle without taking her eyes off me. She says, “I know exactly what I am wishing for.”
She turns and blows out her cake candles. I think of my wish, and I wish that we stay a happy family forever. I blow out my candles and struggle on the last one. Kaminari asks, “What did you guys wish for?” Ashido chimes in, “Probably something naughty, knowing them.” I blush furiously as Toru shushes her, “Shhh, Ashido. You know Sekai will run away if we tease her too much.” The class laughs because they all know she is right, while I scowl, blushing furiously in embarrassment, pulling my hood down to cover my blush. Dad removes the candles while Mom cuts the cakes and hands me and Aya-chan the first slices. She also gives some to our friends, and Mineta asks, “Is it really safe to give cake to animals?”
Toru and Tsu start sweating at the line of questioning, and Aya-chan responds quickly, “It is safe for them due to the mutations they underwent for their quirks.” Toru and Tsu both stifle a sigh of relief at her quick yet believable lie. Jiro seems to pick up on their energy and makes a puzzled face. I take a bite of cake, and I accidentally flicker in place because it is so delicious. The cake is so fluffy, and the icing is sweet but not too rich to be overpowering. I find myself crying a little harder while eating this birthday cake, and the nerd asks, “Are you ok, Sekai?” I snap at him, “Shut it, nerd! I am fine, I just got something in my eye.”
Aya-chan bonks me on my head gently, and she uses that same hand and brings it down to wipe my tears coming from my right eye, and she says, while wearing that warm smile of hers, “Everyone here is happy that you were born, Kai-chan, and just wants to celebrate you.” Everyone? I ask, “Really?” Everyone in class 1-A nodded, and echoes of agreement came from all of our classmates. My right eye, which had just been trickling tears, started pumping tears like a faucet. Kirishima says, while also crying himself, “She was moved to tears. So manly!” I snap back, flustered because I am embarrassed and feeling things, “I-it’s a-allergies.” Mineta asks, “What are you allergic to?” Without skipping a beat and sniffling my now very runny nose, “Losers.” The class started laughing at my response, knowing that my words didn’t convey what I was truly feeling.
After we all enjoy the birthday cake, Dad claps his hands together and says, “Now, it is time for presents.” Presents???? Dad hands me a bigger one first and says, “You already know what this is since we talked about it already.” We did? I open the present, and it is a survival backpack that holds a lot more than my school backpack. I almost forgot that we talked about it, since a lot has happened since then. We could put a lot of stuff in it. It is black, which I really love, and I also like the fabric's texture. It is not only durable, but it feels nice. Aya-chan sees me touching the fabric and starts touching it herself out of curiosity. She perks up and says, “I like that texture a lot!”
Mom looks so proud with her head held high, which makes her nose appear slightly pointed from my position, “Not to brag, but I did well, didn’t I? This should hold a lot of things that will be useful when you travel using your quirk.” Dad says while grabbing another one and looking at it briefly, trying to remember what it was for a moment. After a second, he looks like he remembers, and he hands it to Aya-chan. She opens it, and it is a huge box of sidewalk chalk. Mom says, “I figured, since you are using your quirk differently now, that you could use something to draw when you don’t have paper.” Aya-chan is very pleased, and she says excitedly, “I love it! Now, where should I put the tattoos ....”
She thinks for a minute and arranges them on the inside of her forearm that isn’t covered with kunai knives. She aligns them beautifully side by side, so it looks like a bumpy ribbon tattoo on her skin. It is so pleasing to look at, and Aya-chan asks me, “Do you like my new tattoo?” I nod while blushing, and she giggles and pulls my head forward to hers and kisses me. Dad brings the party back on task and says, while going through the presents to find a specific one, “We have more presents to get through.” He hands me another present, and I open it to find a portable lightweight tent. Aya-chan mainly had an artist’s birthday with getting lots of sketchpads and supplies, while I continued to get things useful for my quirk, like a solar power charge station for electronics and radios, so Aya-chan and I can communicate if we get separated, rations, a fire starter, a hunting knife, etc. As I get things, I set them aside so I can arrange everything strategically.
After presents, we alternated playing video games on the communal screen, where Kaminari and Aya-chan beat everyone. Bakugo threw a controller in a fit of rage after losing a match that I saved from hitting the wall at the last second using my quirk. Bakugo was yelling, “Stupid game! Fight me for real and DIE!” Kaminari takes the controller from my hands and holds it like it is precious while scolding his friend, “Chill, Bakugo! You almost broke my controller!” Bakugo says with attitude, “Be glad I didn’t blow it to smithereens!” Mom giggles and pets Bakugo on his head and says, “Wow, you are like a less lovable version of Sekai.”
Bakugo swats her hand away and yells, “What the hell is that supposed to even mean?!” Mom says, “Sekai looks cute when flustered, while you just look rude. I almost want to tease you to see if you can make the same blushing face that she does.” She hugs him and holds his head to her breasts, and he starts blushing furiously while yelling, “Unhand me, you insufferable woman! GRRRR!” She pats his head like he is a grumpy, hissing cat with its hair standing on end. He remains very tense and frozen as he blushes and accepts the head-pats against his will while the rest of the class laughs at him. He yells, “Shut up, you extras!” Mineta is crying and biting his lip in jealousy, while also trying not to say anything to earn Aya-chan's wrath.
After we played games with the class, Mr. Aizawa came to the dorms and said, “Alright, class, the Kubos need to leave now since it is getting late. Also, in case you were wondering, you all can submit requests for your parents to come to campus as well. Due to Kubo and Mochizuki’s quirks, we can stealthily bring them onto campus. Though this only works if we keep it under wraps. If villains catch wind of this, Himiko Toga might attack one of your parents to impersonate them to get on campus. Not saying this to scare you, we just want you all to have the same liberties while simultaneously protecting you and your families. In lieu of this, please don’t post any pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Kubo on social media.”
The class seems to be excited about hearing the news, and Uraraka says, “I will put a request in for my birthday in December! That is so exciting! I miss my parents so much!” Similar sentiments echo throughout our class, and Mr. Aizawa waves them off and sighs in exasperation, “I didn’t mean right now.” Mr. Aizawa nonverbally motions for Mom and Dad to follow him, and Aya-chan and I hug them one last time. Bakugo mutters, “What a loser.” I gave him the middle finger. Mom sees me giving him the finger in her peripheral vision, and she takes a hand and covers my finger and says in a slightly scolding tone, “Now, Sekai. That is no way to treat your friends.”
I snapped back, “That spiky bastard isn’t my friend!” Mom smiles that warm smile and responds, “That’s not what I see.” Bakugo chimes in and yells, “Stop spouting nonsense! That loser is right, we aren’t friends!” Toru says, with a very amused expression, teasing him, “But you really wanted to save her when she was kidnapped, Bakugo.” Bakugo’s veins pop on his forehead, and he yells, “SHUT IT, EXTRA!” He sighs exasperatedly and stomps up the stairs. I pop a jawbreaker and kiss Aya-chan while we are hugging Mom and Dad, and we take them in 5D and quickly take them home. When we are inside the house, Mom says, “I hope that you girls have fun on your trip tomorrow. Protect each other.” Aya-chan smiles and hugs me, “We already do that.”
We hugged them again, said goodbye, and returned to the dorms to pack the loot from our birthday celebration into the survival pack. Like the backpack Aya-chan got in Kanto, this bag can hold a lot. I try to keep things organized so we can find them easily and pack so we don’t have to pull everything out to find a single thing. Aya-chan is looking at me while lying on the dorm couch with her head propped up by her hands as she kicks her legs back in impatience, watching me pack, and groans, then pouts, “How much longer, Kai-chan? I want my Kai-chan time.” I responded, “I am almost done, Aya-chan.”
Tsu giggles while looking at Aya-chan and says, “She is like a beast stalking prey right now. Waiting for the right opportunity to pounce on Sekai. Ribbit.” Aya-chan, unbothered by the comment, says in that sexy voice while still kicking her legs back and forth impatiently, “I am going to eat her all up.” I get a nosebleed from being flustered by the topic and Aya-chan’s response, and Aya-chan seems pleased and gets me a tissue and passes it to me with a tentacle while she remains lying down staring at me with an amused expression as I pause packing and stop my nosebleed with the tissue. Toru sits on Aya-chan’s butt playfully since she is taking up the communal sofa, and Toru starts braiding Aya-chan’s hair while I continue to pack. I want to hurry myself, because like Aya-chan, I want to touch her, too.
