Chapter 137: Noah made it, but at what cost?

It was a normal day, but not for Noah, who that day was going to receive the result of his weeks of trial, which was on a piece of paper.

Noah looked at the paper in front of him, not quite understanding what it meant, so he then looked at the manager and then back at the paper.

"So...?"

The manager sighed.

"Yes."

Noah slowly raised his head.

"Yes what?"

"Yes, Noah."

She pointed at the document.

"You passed the probation period."

Noah stayed completely still.

"Does that mean...?"

"That you’re hired."

Noah’s eyes widened.

"Really?"

The manager crossed her arms.

"Want me to change my mind?"

"No."

Noah quickly took the paper.

"No, no, it’s perfect."

The manager watched him.

"You’ve made a few mistakes."

Noah stopped smiling.

"Ah."

"You got two orders wrong."

"I see."

"You mixed up a table."

"Yeah, that’s true."

"A customer tried to give you her number while you were working."

"That wasn’t my fault."

"I didn’t say it was."

The manager continued.

"And you’re still too slow when the place fills up."

Noah lowered his head a little.

"I know."

"But you learn fast."

Noah looked up.

"Besides, the female customers are coming more."

Noah stayed quiet while the manager looked toward the dining area where there were several occupied tables with a lot of women, too many women, and some were looking straight at Noah, so the manager smiled.

"A lot more."

Noah narrowed his eyes.

"That sounded suspicious."

"Business is business."

Luna appeared from behind with a tray.

"Did they hire him already?"

It didn’t sound like a friendly question and the manager nodded.

"Yes."

Luna looked at Noah.

"Congratulations."

Noah smiled.

"Thanks."

Luna kept looking at him and then added.

"Now you’ll be able to buy your computer."

Noah nodded immediately.

"I hope so."

That had been precisely the main reason he’d looked for a job.

He wanted to save up to buy a decent computer and try to start streaming.

And, for the first time in quite a while, something seemed to be going right.

’Finally some good news.’

The manager put away some documents.

"You officially start full-time next week."

"Understood."

"And don’t be late."

"I won’t."

"That’s what you said during the trial."

"It was once."

"It was twice."

"I only went over by five minutes."

"But twice."

Noah sighed.

"Fine."

Luna walked past him.

"I’ll make sure he gets here."

Noah looked at her.

"How?"

Luna answered without changing expression.

"I’m going to pick you up."

"No, it’s fine."

"I said I’ll pick you up."

"Don’t come into my house."

"I didn’t say I’d go in."

Noah narrowed his eyes, but Luna kept walking and Noah decided not to ask, since that was best.

The café door opened, so Noah raised his head to see that a girl with blonde hair and an impeccable appearance entered the place.

Recognizing her, Noah stopped smiling.

’Aria.’

Aria walked straight toward him.

She didn’t look at the tables, or the decor, or talk to the manager; she went toward Noah.

"Hi."

Noah raised a hand.

"Hi, Aria."

She got too close and Noah realized what she was going to do when she was already in front of him.

Aria tilted her face while Noah took half a step back, but he didn’t need to do anything else, since a hand appeared between them, which belonged to Luna.

Aria stopped, since Luna was standing next to Noah with a completely serious expression.

"You’re not doing that."

Aria looked at the hand and then at Luna.

"Excuse me?"

"He’s working."

Aria smiled.

"I was just going to say hello."

"With your mouth."

"It’s a valid way."

"Not for me."

Aria tilted her head slightly.

"Now you decide how I can greet Noah?"

Luna crossed her arms.

"Yes, because I’m his girlfriend."

Noah felt several nearby customers looking toward them.

’Not here.’

Aria smiled a little more.

"How interesting."

Luna narrowed her eyes, to which Aria continued.

"Well, I’m his fiancée."

There was silence in the place.

Luna didn’t react for several seconds and then slowly turned toward Noah.

"Noah."

He swallowed.

"Y-Yes?"

"What did she say?"

Noah looked at Aria, who was enjoying that way too much.

"What you heard."

Luna looked back at Noah.

"Is that true?"

Noah thought about lying for just a second, but then remembered all the problems he’d caused by hiding things, so he sighed.

"Yes, it’s true."

Luna stayed motionless.

"You’re engaged to Aria?"

"Yes."

Aria moved a little closer.

"Officially..."

Luna looked at her and Aria continued.

"And legally..."

Luna didn’t answer.

"With documents..."

There was only silence at those words.

"And signatures."

Noah brought a hand to his face.

"Aria."

"Yes, dear?"

"You don’t need to say all that."

"I was just explaining it to her."

Luna remained quiet, too quiet, so Noah watched her.

"Luna."

She was still looking at Aria.

"Noah."

"Yes?"

"I’m going to eliminate her."

Aria raised an eyebrow.

"How direct."

Noah immediately grabbed Luna by the shoulders.

"No!"

"Let go of me or I’ll hurt you."

"I’m not letting go!"

"I just need a few minutes."

"I said no!"

Aria smiled.

"You can try."

Luna extended a hand and a small amount of dark energy appeared around her fingers, at which Noah’s eyes widened.

"Luna!"

She looked at her hand, then at Noah, and the energy disappeared.

"Fine."

Noah let out a breath.

"Thanks."

Luna pointed at Aria.

"But I don’t like her."

"I already noticed."

Aria looked at Noah.

"I’m glad your girlfriend is reasonable."

Luna raised her hand again and Noah held it.

"You said it was fine!"

"I changed my mind."

Noah took a deep breath and then looked at Aria.

"What did you come for?"

Aria observed the place.

"I have a meeting."

"Here?"

"Yes."

Noah frowned.

"What kind of meeting?"

"Business."

Luna spoke.

"Go somewhere else."

Aria ignored her.

"I need a big table."

Noah looked at the manager, who was already watching the situation from afar, and when Aria looked at her, the manager immediately smiled.

"Of course."

Noah raised an eyebrow.

’That was fast.’

Aria walked toward a table located at the back, sat down, crossed her legs, and waited.

Noah watched all of that and could only think one thing.

’I don’t like this.’

Something that was going to affect Noah was about to happen.
