Chapter 812: The Grand Opening Celebration Week 8
“Yes, I have seen it too. It gave me the title of best Runesmith in the solar system. Which would mean..” Damian replied, but was soon cut off by Ilvanya.
“..That there are other worlds around us.”
“Exactly,” Damian confirmed.
“Shouldn’t we.. tell others? What if someone comes for us?” Torvin asked.
“If I tell others that there might be a world full of monsters that might someday come for us, who would believe me?” Damian asked, and as expected, the look of understanding covered everyone’s faces, “Besides, I believe some of them are already here.”
“Huh?” Sam sat up straight, “What do you mean?”
“The dungeons, the monsters coming out of them. It’s not an illusion or magic like the ascension trials. I believe it’s something like an image. Something that was once real but is now simply a recorded copy of that time.”
“You concluded this because you have travelled to this planet, which is based on the Highsword dungeon?” Ilvanya asked.
“It was part of my reasoning, yes,” Damian replied.
“If that’s true, there is a chance we can travel there through dungeons somehow.” Einar thought out loud.
“I believe using the dungeon core is how it should work, only that is the common thing in all of these different dungeons. I had planned to ask later, but since we are on the topic – Land-breaker, Lady Ilvanya, is there any way I can ask you to show me the dungeon closing method?” Damian used the chance to ask for a favor.
“Dungeon seal?” Sam narrowed his eyes.
“How would that help?” Torvin finished the question for Sam.
“I just wish to see it; there might be some clue I can figure out about the dungeon cores,” Damian explained.
“No one has requested that in years. I will have to check some details before I can say for sure.” Land-breaker replied. Damian looked towards Ilvanya.
“I will have to consult my queen before doing anything, and it wouldn’t be just a favor; this knowledge is something serious. If Lord Land-breaker can help you, that would be better. If not, I will see what I can do.” She replied.
Damian nodded, his eyes returning to the stage. The mage was quite ferocious. The guy had used the one-time use Sanctum shop’s Blazur alloy ring, advanced grade spell storage enchantment, and runic mix item at the very end, catching the spellsword in an awkward situation, claiming a clever victory.
Evrin had made deals with various small and bit enchanters and runesmiths who had good products, to sell their items in the shop and get a commission on that. That woman could squeeze a profit out of a dying mouse.
The challengers were allowed to carry only two small runic or enchanted items; if the item was big, only one was permitted.
Damian watched for a while, most of the guests left the place, then he too got bored and went to rest for some hours. He soon returned after taking a good nap and eating a little before dinner time. By the time he returned, round three was still ongoing.
Out of 156, the last forty challengers remained who were fighting against each other to become the last 20, then 10 for the prequalifying matches, and finally qualifying for the finals with the last five.
Damian had not announced it, but anyone making it into the top 40 was going to be invited by the Sanctum to explore the dungeons on their behalf, like an individual for hire. Their dungeon explorations will be sponsored by the Sanctum. It was both to encourage them to become stronger and to lead a team inside a dungeon and achieve good results.
Certainly, the manaless mage had already cleared the third round. So did a few other individuals Damian was keeping an eye on. There were very few people who chose runic warrior jobs, for whom Damian automatically rooted.
Then there were a couple of insanely talented mundane fighters, defeating pathfinders using his runic tools. Only two small runic tools, and they could match the enhanced humans. If they had full suits of runic armor, what kind of skills would they show?
Damian was indeed interested in those few; actually, he had already decided to gather all mundanes who had made it into the top 250. A mundane runic tools-using unit for the Sanctum army was something they had decided to make for a while now. These people would fit in perfectly; others could teach in the academy or do the dungeon exploration.
Other than those, a few mages with unique spells and a few spellswords with good skills were all the people he knew who could make it to round three and even four.
Most of the ones he had his eyes on were either already selected or were about to fight for their spot.
The matches continued one after another. Slowly, 7 pm had turned to 10 and even 11. The time for the finals to begin. Even though it was really close to midnight, the crowd had barely lessened. Instead, the coliseum had become more and more packed as fewer challengers remained.
Even the VIP section had people returning. The emperor with his whole family, all three Faerunians, the mother-daughter elves, and most of the Sanctum heads. Lucian was pretty busy with her academy stuff; otherwise, she wouldn’t have missed this either.
The final five contestants included an ordinary steel-armoured runesmith named Ryoden Nightblade, A huge double-handed sword-wielding spellsword named Aozark, A mundane human in full runic armor named Valery Crowbar, A muscular pugilist named Basha, and the imposter mage named Theren Emberwrit.
All had skills. And all were very close to becoming a second ranker, mostly on their third jobs as Light-walkers. For Theren, Damian knew that wasn’t right. But the extent of that guy’s ability was something even he was not aware of. Damian wanted one of the four to push the guy to his very limit, so he could show some other card he had up his sleeve.
