The Rule-Breaker of the Doomsday Game

Chapter 474: Limited-Time Event: The Succession of Wind and Thunder

  • Next Chapter

Time passed in a flash, and soon it was the day of the Thunder God's birth.

After the three Holy Sanctuary Mages had their memories physically erased, they quickly sensed that something was amiss.

However, Qi Suian had performed the physical alterations on a massive scale, not limiting himself to just those three Holy Sanctuary Mages.

This meant they couldn't find any significant clues, and ultimately had to drop the matter.

During that time, the Great Arcanist had set out as planned to find the one wreathed in fate, but Carl was already dead, so he returned empty-handed.

After that, a pall of gloom fell over everything.

Ultimately, they were forced to venture behind enemy lines.

Protected by numerous Magic spells and guided by the Prophet's foresight, they passed through the territories of the various Wind Kings without incident, arriving at the designated area.

The area was a void, devoid of hurricanes or islands. There was only a vast expanse of gathering thunder and black clouds.

The black clouds writhed constantly, emitting a chilling aura.

The Great Arcanist's face was slightly pale. It wasn't that he was afraid, but that his body's instincts could not resist this terrifying, god-like pressure.

"'The Thunder God... is this powerful? He hasn't even been born, and the Magic Power in my body has already stopped flowing," the Elemental Master said.

The Magic Power within the three of them had ground to a halt.

They couldn't even muster the will to resist.

"What do you see?" the Great Arcanist asked the Prophet.

They were still some distance from the thunderous black clouds, but this was as far as they could go.

Any further, and they would be entering a region far beyond their capabilities.

"I can't see anything. Only endless lightning," the Prophet answered honestly.

If the difference in power weren't so vast, the Prophet might have been able to see something. But now, the gap was simply immeasurable.

It was a miracle he could see the lightning at all. He was lucky to have avoided a backlash; otherwise, they would have lost a man on the spot.

"We've lost some of our memories. There's likely a key reason hidden in there."

"For example, why we chose to agree," the Great Arcanist sighed helplessly.

It was a shame they had lost that part of their memory; otherwise, there might have been some room to maneuver.

"It's too late for regrets. Retreating is just another way to die." The Elemental Master glanced behind him.

The winds were gathering. Not just the Profound Mechanism Wind King, but other Wind Kings seemed to have arrived as well.

"I've more or less guessed the Wind Kings' intentions."

"We're just bait. They want the Doomsday Game to have a go at the Thunder God."

"No matter who wins, it benefits them," the Prophet said, having realized their true intentions.

"They're really willing to stake it all. Especially the Profound Mechanism Wind King, giving up his chance to become a Wind God," the Great Arcanist sneered.

With the Prophet's reminder, they could piece together the clues, even without the relevant memories.

"How naive of them," the Elemental Master said, his expression turning to one of disdain. "The Doomsday Game couldn't care less about us."

"Even if we die at the hands of the Thunder God, the Doomsday Game won't show a shred of pity."

'How could they not be aware of the Doomsday Game's cruelty? These Wind Kings from the Sky Island World might not know the truth, but they certainly did.'

'If it could pull them in, it could certainly pull in humans from other worlds to be survivors.'

'In fact, they were certain they weren't the first batch of survivors. They had no idea which batch they were.'

'As for the survivors who came before? They had probably all perished in the Doomsday World.'

'To the Doomsday Game, survivors were completely expendable.'

The Elemental Master had barely finished speaking when a terrifying bolt of lightning tore through the dark clouds nearby.

The accompanying roar carried a divine authority that spread across the land. Even from a distance, the thunder and its celestial pressure were enough to violently disrupt the Magic Power in their bodies.

"S-so... such powerful might."

"It hasn't even been born yet. Once it emerges, even if it doesn't possess its peak strength, it will be far beyond what those Wind Kings can handle." The Elemental Master was the most sensitive of the three to elements and energy.

Thus, he was the first to realize just how terrifying the Thunder God was.

And it wasn't just them. The Wind Kings forcing them onward had also fallen into a commotion.

The Thunder God's power far exceeded their expectations. If the plan failed to incite a conflict between the Doomsday Game and the Thunder God, they would be the ones left to face it.

"There's no chance of survival. I suggest we choose an easier way to die." As the Prophet spoke, his eyeballs burst, and the skin and flesh began to peel from his face.

In about two seconds, only a blood-streaked, ghastly white skull remained.

Fortunately, because his Physique stat was 6, his brain was unharmed, and he used his Magic Power to forcibly cling to life.

"To witness the being they call a god before I die... This life will not have been in vain," the Great Arcanist said.

At the same time, the Wind Kings behind them grew more insistent, urging them to make contact with the Thunder God.

With things having come to this, the three of them could only press on, trudging toward the thunderous black clouds under the immense pressure.

Their Magic was failing due to the lightning, and the disarray had thrown their own Magic Power into chaos.

Therefore, they could only take it one step at a time, with no plan to speak of.

As the three of them staggered forward, the Wind Kings became more and more anxious.

The three strongest survivors had been forced into this situation, yet the Doomsday Game showed no reaction at all.

'Is the Doomsday Game really willing to watch its sharpest blades be broken?'

For this reason, the conflicts among the Wind Kings began to gradually emerge.

"The Wind Kings are about to turn on each other," the Prophet suddenly said.

The other two's hearts sank when they heard this, not because of the prediction, but because they knew the Prophet couldn't hold on much longer.

He specialized in prophecy, so his physical constitution was far inferior to that of the Great Arcanist and the Elemental Master.

"Then this is it for me. I won't get to see the Thunder God. You two can see him for me, that's fine too." After the Prophet said this, he staggered and fell to the ground.

The two of them didn't have time to catch him.

The next moment, they saw arcs of lightning emerge from within the Prophet's Magic Power.

It was clear his Magic Power had been severely corroded by the lightning.

Before the two could speak, the Prophet's Magic Power dissipated.

In reality, he could have held on for a while longer, but it was just the difference between dying sooner and dying later.

Dying sooner would be a release; holding on would just mean prolonging the torture.

Without the protection of Magic Power, the Prophet's body was instantly engulfed by countless lightning bolts, disappearing without a trace.

The two exchanged a look, said nothing more, and continued towards the thunderous black clouds.

"Interesting humans. Are you the vanguards of the Wind?"

The thunder rumbled, forming a sentence.

"No, we simply wish to witness the birth of a god," the Great Arcanist said.

Meanwhile, countless tiny arcs of lightning had begun to flicker across the Elemental Master's body.

He was a master of the elements, and thus had a natural affinity for them. In the end, that very affinity became his cage.

"Hahaha, an interesting way to put it."

"Even if it means your death?" the voice of thunder boomed again.

"Yes. Even if it means our death," the Great Arcanist replied without a hint of hesitation.

And as he finished speaking, the Elemental Master had completely disintegrated into countless bolts of lightning.

'A painless death. That's a small mercy.'

"Then, bear witness to my birth."

Amidst the roaring thunder, the dark clouds in the sky began to collapse, and lightning gradually took over more than half the sky.

The gloomy atmosphere was instantly dispelled, and the world brightened.

The Great Arcanist saw the lightning in the sky coalesce into a humanoid form, trailing an awesome brilliance.

In an instant, a pressure that could cow all creation descended upon him.

Already in a weakened state, he was immediately crushed by the force, collapsing to the ground.

His Magic Power began to dissipate due to the pressure, and his life force was also constantly draining away.

"The Wind Kings... heh..." With the last of his strength, he forced his gaze backward. Seeing the Wind Kings in disarray, he couldn't help but flash a mocking smile.

In the final moment before his life force faded, he saw that the Doomsday Game seemed to have released a brand new timed event.

But before he had time to see it, he was engulfed by lightning, and death arrived.

-----------------

[Timed Event: A Change of Wind and Thunder]

[Objective: Survive for thirty days]

[Reward: New World Pass]

Qi Suian looked at the timed event for the New World Pass, completely unfazed by its appearance.

This event had little to do with him. The Thunder God was born right on schedule; it wasn't as if he had provoked its early arrival.

So, with or without his involvement, it was unstoppable.

'He really is strong. Just born, and he can already overwhelm the Wind Kings.'

'However, this is also the Wind Kings' last chance.'

'The Thunder God is at his weakest right now. If they were willing to unite and strike, they could absolutely inflict a grievous wound, perhaps even leave him with a permanent weakness.'

Qi Suian did not act immediately, but waited for the Wind Kings' move.

In Qi Suian's opinion, however, the Wind Kings were more likely to flee than to face the Thunder God.

'After all, they aren't united. How could they possibly act as one?'

Sure enough, chaos erupted among the Wind Kings. When the first one saw how things were going and fled, more and more began to follow suit.

'Either they pin their hopes on others or they just focus on clinging to a wretched existence. No wonder they've fallen to such a state.'

Qi Suian's expression became grim.

'Relying on a bunch of cowards like you to create a Wind God? You couldn't do it even if every last one of you died trying.'

"Looks like I'll have to give you a hand," Qi Suian said in a low voice. "But before that, I need to buy some time."

As he spoke, his gaze returned to the Thunder God.

He intended to hit the Thunder God hard, forcing him to lie low for a while after his birth.

But first, he had to wait for the Thunder God to be fully born; he had no intention of striking prematurely.

If the Thunder God ended up with some inherent weakness, it would affect his growth, and that in turn would affect the strength of the scapegoat Qi Suian needed.
