The Rule-Breaker of the Doomsday Game
Chapter 464: The Profound Mechanism Wind King’s Candidate
"I’ve finally managed to change my class to Wind Chasing Envoy." Carl felt the Elemental Magic Power within him convert entirely into wind-attribute Magic Power.
On top of that, he had also received the corresponding class template. This allowed him to gain access to a magical inheritance, as well as unlock new class-specific talents and skills.
’And then there’s this mandatory quest.’
[Mandatory Quest: Lord of Wind]
The Doomsday Game wanted him to become the Lord of Wind. If he succeeded, not only could he get an SSS-rank talent, but he could also take his territory and people with him.
He knew exactly what becoming the Lord of Wind entailed, and a bitter smile touched his lips.
’This is simply impossible for me to complete.’
’To become the Lord of Wind, I’ll need to gain the Wind King’s acknowledgment.’
Carl knew full well how difficult it was to earn the Wind King’s acknowledgment. It would be one thing if he were a native of the Sky Island World, but the "survivors" had always merely been partners cooperating with the Wind King.
’How could the Wind King possibly hand over his core to a survivor?’
Even though he had changed his class to Wind Chasing Envoy and his affinity for the wind had reached an extremely high level, he was far from the only Mage to have done so.
The Wind Chasing Envoy class wasn’t unique or hidden. Plenty of people were stronger than him, and many had switched to this path.
’What is that?’ Carl’s wind-based senses suddenly detected a violent power converging.
The wind was being torn apart and annihilated by this force, which raged like a crazed beast.
’It seems to be the thunder element, but I thought the Sky Island World didn’t have elemental magic.’ Carl focused his senses, then began to chant the Wind Wing Magic.
A pair of wings constructed from wind elements materialized on his back, and he sped toward the region of violent energy.
He didn’t know any thunder-type Magic; with his aptitude being only for the wind element, he naturally specialized in it.
However, as an Elemental Master, he had of course sensed the differences between the various elements. He could even convert them into Magic Power.
It was just that the conversion was far less efficient than with the wind element.
’It’s in the sky?’ Carl arrived at a desolate island. It had been abandoned after the deaths of its Lord of Wind, Wind Spirits, and subjects, eventually becoming part of the Wind King’s defensive line.
Upon arrival, Carl’s gaze shifted upward. He flew higher and higher, until he finally saw the terrifying lightning storm coiled in the heavens.
"Mortal, you dare to look directly at the Thunder God’s envoy?"
From the heart of the storm, a humanoid thunder-elemental creature spoke.
Carl’s pupils constricted. He could feel the Magic Power in his body tremble, while the surrounding winds recoiled as if facing a mortal enemy.
’Survivor, kill it, and I will give you a reward.’
A gust of wind brushed past his ear, and Carl heard the Wind King’s voice.
A deep sense of unease settled over him.
It was for one simple reason: the only people who could communicate with the Wind King were a handful of Holy Sanctuary Mages.
And he was merely a Fourth-rank Wind Chasing Envoy. To reach the Holy Sanctuary, he’d first have to get to the tenth rank.
He had been third-rank before, but his recent efforts, combined with the boost from his class change, had allowed him to break through to the fourth rank.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he turned and fled. His Wind Wings beat so fast they left afterimages as he began chanting other wind-based protective and acceleration spells to hasten his escape.
However, his speed was still far too slow compared to the elemental creature within the lightning.
In an instant, the terrifying thunderstorm was right behind him.
"Wings of the Wind God, grant me..."
At this point, Carl couldn’t afford to hold back. He forced himself to use a spell far beyond his rank.
It was Wind God’s Wings, the superior version of Wind Wings.
His speed instantly skyrocketed. He banked into a sharp arc, turning to evade the terrifying thunderstorm.
He had now turned back around, his gaze fixed on the thunder-elemental creature in the distance. A flash of killing intent glinted in his eyes.
The creature began to conjure another thunderstorm, and Carl knew that if he didn’t kill it, he would be the one to die.
He wouldn’t be able to dodge a thunderstorm of that speed.
The strain of the Wind God’s Wings was immense; he could only use them for an instant. Any longer, and both his body and his Magic Power would be completely drained.
And the speed of his regular Wind Wings wasn’t enough.
"Mortal, you dare to evade the gift bestowed upon you by the supreme Thunder Spirit!" the thunder-elemental creature berated him.
"’Gale, by your great...’" Carl didn’t hesitate, chanting the most powerful spell he could currently cast: Gale Blade.
A massive blade of wind materialized from his Magic Power, slicing toward the Thunder Spirit as he continued to chant.
Seeing this, the Thunder Spirit hastily unleashed its incompletely formed thunderstorm.
The Gale Blade struck the thunderstorm, but it was no match at all. The storm easily shattered it.
It wasn’t entirely useless, however. The thunderstorm’s speed was reduced, and its power dropped significantly.
Carl wasn’t discouraged. He knew the power gap between them was immense; even his strongest spell couldn’t stand up to its thunderstorm.
But he could tell from its reaction that while the Thunder Spirit’s attacks were powerful, its physical form seemed incredibly fragile.
’If I can just land a spell on it, there’s a high chance I can kill it instantly.’
’Otherwise, why would it have frantically unleashed an unfinished thunderstorm?’
’It must have been to protect itself from the Gale Blade.’
’This is my one chance to survive.’
"O wind, your form..."
Carl seized the opportunity to chant another spell. This time, it wasn’t an attack, but one for control and restraint.
The newly born Thunder Spirit had no combat experience. Assuming Carl was preparing another attack, it spat out a small ball of lightning.
It was an infantile version of a thunderstorm, with greatly reduced speed and power.
The Gale Cage trapped the ball of lightning and simultaneously obscured the Thunder Spirit’s vision.
Carl seized this chance, once again temporarily evolving his Wind Wings into the Wind God’s Wings and closing in on the Thunder Spirit with incredible speed.
By the time the Thunder Spirit reacted, Carl was already upon it.
"NO!!!" the Thunder Spirit shrieked, watching a massive blade of wind emerge from Carl’s chant.
It could already see its own fate: being torn to shreds by the blade of wind.
After its roar, the Gale Blade struck true. The razor-sharp wind instantly tore it into countless fragments, which then dissipated into sparks of lightning.
With its death, the entire storm began to surge violently before vanishing completely.
The entire process was incredibly fast. In just ten seconds, everything fell silent.
’You have done very well, survivor.’ The wind whispered past his ear, carrying the Wind King’s voice.
’While your deeds are not yet enough to make you a Lord of Wind, they are sufficient for me to bestow upon you a measure of my power.’
After the Wind King’s voice faded, a notification from the "Doomsday Game" appeared before Carl.
[You have received the Wind King’s Gift]
A wisp of solidified wind appeared in his inventory. Carl read the description: using it would grant him a C-rank class skill.
’A generous Wind King.’
Carl used it immediately and obtained a C-rank class skill called "Wind Spirit Javelin."
The skill allowed him to condense a Wind Spirit out of air. This Wind Spirit would then hurl a spear for a ranged attack, which came with additional wind-elemental damage as well as armor-breaking and penetration effects.
Its range and damage depended on Carl’s Spirit attribute.
More importantly, because it was a Wind Chasing Envoy class skill, it was an instant cast and didn’t require chanting like his Magic.
It also had no cooldown. As long as he had enough Magic Power, he could summon these javelin-throwing Wind Spirits indefinitely.
Even though the Wind Spirit Javelin skill was only C-rank, its power far surpassed that of his strongest spell, Gale Blade.
It wasn’t his first class skill. When he changed class, he had automatically received "Wind King’s Aegis," a passive skill that increased his resistance to the wind attribute.
’Of course, should you be willing to continue slaying Thunder Spirits, there will be even greater rewards.’
’The more you slay, the greater the rewards,’ the Wind King’s voice added.
Carl’s expression shifted when he heard this. This was an opportunity for him.
An opportunity to pull ahead of the curve.
A Fourth-rank Wind Chasing Envoy was nothing special among the larger survivor community.
But with the Wind King’s support, his growth would be incredibly fast.
"I need more than just Magic and skills," Carl said. "I need to grow stronger."
’Of course. The power of the wind is boundless.’
’Slay two more Thunder Spirits, and I will allow you to choose your own reward.’ The Wind King’s offer was incredibly generous.
Carl readily accepted, but then quickly composed himself.
"Why choose me?" Carl knew the Wind King’s ideal partners should be the Holy Sanctuary Mages.
’You are special, unlike the other survivors,’ the Wind King answered without concealment.
Carl’s heart leaped into his throat. He knew exactly why he was special: he was a Transmigrator, and he had two "panels."
’A pity I cannot perceive the source of your uniqueness. Nevertheless, I believe you are a more suitable partner than those Holy Sanctuary Mages,’ the Wind King added.
With that, Carl’s heart settled back into his chest. ’It’s a relief he can’t tell.’
’If the Wind King had found out I was a Transmigrator, things would have gotten complicated.’
"So, where can I find these Thunder Spirits? Can you point the way?" Carl set aside his misgivings for the moment, choosing to press his luck.
’Of course. I know precisely where the nearest Thunder Spirit is coming into being. Its location is...’ The Wind King gave Carl a direction and position.
"Alright. I need to recover my Magic Power. I’ll head out in an hour." Carl wasn’t planning to leave immediately; his question had just been a test.
He had just used the Wind God’s Wings twice, cast Gale Blade twice, and Gale Cage once. His Magic Power was nearly depleted.
He needed to absorb elements and convert them into Magic Power to replenish his reserves. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even be able to cast a single spell.
