The Rule-Breaker of the Doomsday Game
Chapter 428: The Secret to Being Powerful is Good Luck
Qi Suian shouldered a large pole strung with heads and headed for the front lines.
The front line was no longer in its original position, but on the border between the former Wallachia Kingdom, once ruled by the Son of the Dragon, and the Transylvania Kingdom.
"You're back. Looks like you didn't find the Spirit Staff." The Daywalker glanced at the pole Qi Suian was carrying.
Each and every head belonged to a Blood Prince. Because of their immortality, they were all still alive.
As for their bodies, Qi Suian had burned them all for fuel.
"I actually have a question." Qi Suian casually tossed the pole aside. Instead of answering the Daywalker's question, he sat down and asked one of his own.
His serious expression made the Daywalker grow solemn. "What is it?"
"The Blood Race die when a wooden stake pierces their heart. I can understand that as stakes being their weakness."
"But now they don't even have bodies, let alone hearts. So why are they still alive?"
"What's the principle behind that?" Qi Suian's expression grew even more grave.
The Daywalker almost lost his composure. He thought Qi Suian was going to ask about the future of humanity or what his own role would be after wiping out the Blood Race.
But instead, he asked such a bizarre question.
"I don't know..." the Daywalker supplied a brilliant answer.
How was he supposed to know about these things? If you asked him to manage or kill, that was no problem. But asking him to explain such a contradictory phenomenon? He had no idea.
"Right. You're just a brute. How could you know about this stuff?" Qi Suian retorted.
Then he glanced at the still-twitching heads of the Blood Princes. "Find some time and hang them all on the flagpole."
Qi Suian wasn't usually petty, but since they had threatened to skin him and use his hide as a flag, he'd be magnanimous. He wouldn't skin them; he'd just hang their heads on the flagpole to boost morale.
"Just hang them for two or three days. After you're done with your propaganda, you have to give them back to me. I still need to finish them off."
The Daywalker's eye twitched. "I'm afraid that won't work. The Blood Race can't be exposed to the sun. Come sunrise tomorrow, there'll be nothing left of them."
Qi Suian's idea was good, but not easy to implement.
"Are you stupid? Just hang a sheet over them or something to block the sun," Qi Suian shot back.
"Alright. It seems these Blood Princes really got on your bad side." The Daywalker was certain this was just blatant retaliation from Qi Suian.
He had brought them back specifically to be tortured. Otherwise, he would have dealt with them on the road. Why bother bringing them back at all?
Of course, the Daywalker knew about the solution Qi Suian mentioned. The reason he had made an excuse to refuse was that it wasn't a good time to start a full-blown war.
Actually hanging up the heads would definitely provoke the Blood Race, inevitably accelerating the pace of the war.
It wasn't that the Daywalker was afraid to fight; he just wanted more time to prepare for a better chance of victory.
But faced with Qi Suian's demand, he ultimately chose to agree.
He had been afraid of an early war because he lacked support. Now that he had it, fighting wasn't such a big deal.
"What about the Blood Race Sacred Artifacts I asked for?" Qi Suian asked bluntly.
"They're already prepared for you, stored in the treasury. I'll have Soros take you to get them." The Daywalker had no intention of going back on his word.
The Blood Race Sacred Artifacts all had different functions, and only a few were useful to the Daywalker.
After all, his business was fighting and killing; he had little use for other functionalities.
"To think that most of the Blood Race Sacred Artifacts are in our human hands. That's pretty ironic," Qi Suian remarked.
As soon as he finished speaking, he stood up. Soros was already waiting for him at the door.
"It's been a long time, Mr. Fisher," Soros said as soon as he saw him.
"Yes, it has been a while," Qi Suian replied. "I was very happy to hear that you successfully evacuated from the Transylvania Kingdom."
He wasn't happy that the man was alive, but that he had successfully brought back the Bone Zither, a Blood Race Sacred Artifact.
Soros was well aware of what Qi Suian was thinking but didn't call him out on it.
"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Fisher. This way, please." Soros led the way, briefing Qi Suian on the current situation as they walked.
This was something the Daywalker should have done himself, but he was too busy.
After occupying the Wallachia Kingdom, a nation controlled by the Demon Faction, there was simply too much to do.
Everything from the common people to the administration needed to be rebuilt—it was an enormous undertaking.
At the same time, he had to handle various military affairs in preparation for the coming war with the Blood Race.
Soros was now his assistant. Although he could share some of the workload, due to his age and race, his efficiency couldn't compare to the Daywalker's.
Qi Suian also learned that the Church's situation was not optimistic.
The human kingdoms had been purged once over. At least on the surface, no one would dare to side with the Blood Race again.
However, this only deepened the conflict between the Church and the various kingdoms, a conflict the Church was suppressing with brute force.
This caused the kingdoms to harbor great resentment regarding their material support for the Church. But given that the Church had annihilated the Demon Faction, its military might kept them from making any rash moves.
The problems on the surface were easy to handle, but the ones lurking in the shadows were not so easily resolved.
Unfortunately, the Church now had to face the Blood Race war. Otherwise, with the Daywalker's methods, dealing with the kingdoms would have been no problem at all if he could spare the attention.
The two soon arrived at the Demon Faction's treasury, which was originally the treasury of Vlad III Cepes, Son of the Dragon.
It now served as the Church's temporary storage for valuable items.
It was highly secure in terms of secrecy, concealment, and other aspects.
Soros, navigating with practiced ease, opened the treasury and led Qi Suian inside.
He would occasionally point out and describe some of the treasures to Qi Suian.
Qi Suian just glanced at them without much interest.
These treasures were certainly nice, but they were just artifacts, their value entirely man-made.
However, they could be liquidated to fund the war effort, so they had some minor use in that regard.
They made their way to the depths of the treasury, where they finally saw the Bone Zither and the Ghost Lamp, two Blood Race Sacred Artifacts.
The entire area was protected with materials like Holy Water, orichalcum, mithril, and aurichalcum, and further enchanted with Divine Techniques.
Therefore, it was impossible for the Blood Race to take them; only humans could.
However, the ones guarding this treasury were all Discipline Priests from the Church who possessed Divine Techniques.
The possibility of betrayal was extremely low.
After all, to acquire Divine Techniques, one needed sufficient faith, and that faith was proof of their loyalty.
Not to say betrayal was 100% impossible—that would be unrealistic. Even with sufficient faith, people still have their own thoughts.
Qi Suian walked straight through the protective wards and took the two Blood Race Sacred Artifacts.
He wasn't a member of the Blood Race, so naturally, he was unharmed.
"I've taken the items. You can deal with the rest yourselves." Qi Suian stated bluntly, then turned and walked out without a moment's hesitation.
Soros breathed a sigh of relief. Qi Suian's performance had been so outrageous that he had actually suspected him of being Dracula.
A normal human could never be that powerful.
But seeing Qi Suian pass through unharmed finally confirmed that he was not of the Blood Race.
He hurriedly chased after him and asked curiously, "Mr. Fisher, what's the secret to your immense power?"
Soros hoped to probe for Qi Suian's secret.
He acknowledged the Daywalker as their leader, but he understood one thing: the Daywalker was not purely human.
Humanity couldn't rely on the Daywalker's protection forever. They needed their own power to protect themselves.
As for the Church's Divine Techniques, he didn't approve of such an ethereal power obtained by praying to non-existent gods.
If Divine Techniques were ever promoted on a large scale, humanity would completely lose itself.
This was also why the Church only chose nobles and didn't promote it to everyone.
Otherwise, if they chose commoners, there would be an explosion in the number of Discipline Priests who mastered Divine Techniques, and even the ranks of Demon Hunters and Ascetics would swell significantly.
It was precisely for the sake of humanity that the Church had chosen not to turn all humans into the Lord's lambs.
"The secret to my power?" Qi Suian rubbed his chin, thought for a moment, and said, "Good luck!"
'The only reason I'm alive and powerful now is because I once used my protagonist-like plot armor to turn the tables on a reincarnator.'
'Otherwise, I would have been long gone.'
Hearing this, Soros's expression froze. What kind of answer was that?
"Good luck is the humility of the strong." Soros didn't believe it for a second. You couldn't trust a word of it when someone successful claimed it was all just good luck.
Perhaps luck had played a part in Qi Suian's journey to power, but it certainly couldn't have been the only factor.
"That's really it." Qi Suian spread his hands. "I'm not lying to you."
'As for my Death's Reforging that lets me revive after dying? Wasn't that just luck too? It's not like it's some innate talent.'
This left Soros feeling a bit helpless. He could only assume Qi Suian was determined to hide the truth.
"Then your power...?" Soros pressed on.
"Luck, plus a little bit of effort," Qi Suian elaborated slightly this time. "But it's not suitable for you. After all, I am me, and you are you."
Qi Suian was telling the truth. Even if he laid out his entire Extraordinary system for Soros to understand completely, it would be impossible for him to replicate.
The Extraordinary system he used wasn't a single system, but a composite of multiple systems, each complementing the others' strengths and weaknesses.
What's more, Qi Suian wasn't even human. His Extraordinary system was suited only for himself; humans were completely incapable of cultivating it.
Even trying to adapt it would be as difficult as ascending to the heavens.
And a single moment of carelessness could lead to all sorts of fatal mistakes.
The simplest example was that the Abyssal Virus could trigger a biohazard crisis.
"It seems Mr. Fisher's power is truly unique," Soros said complimentarily, not probing or questioning any further.
Qi Suian had made his point clear. Continuing to ask would yield no more information.
It was best to stop while he was ahead. Being relentless would only make him disliked.
Soros did have that sense of boundaries. He was an expert at reading people and situations.
How else could he have become a city's Governor? He wasn't born into the position; he had surely clawed his way up.
"It's alright. Aside from the high chance of dying, it has no other flaws," Qi Suian replied.
'If humans in this Blood Race World came with infinite revivals, then they could master it. But if they don't, and still covet my power, giving it to them would just be a death sentence.'
