The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao

Chapter 172: When Rich and Noble, Don't Go Woofing

  • Next Chapter

Chen Erbao had gone to a fairly standard university, but the tuition was exorbitant. The students who could afford to go there were all from wealthy or powerful families.

Chen Erbao went because he had no other choice. Luckily, his father had left behind a low-income certificate, which waived a large portion of the tuition and allowed him to finish college.

Making small talk, the two soon arrived at May Square.

Zhang Yiyi was clearly very familiar with the area, leading Chen Erbao straight to a suit shop.

"This shop isn't big, but the clothes are quite nice, and the prices are reasonable."

Zhang Yiyi didn't know how much money Chen Erbao had made, so she didn't take him anywhere too expensive, wanting to avoid putting him in an awkward position.

After a lap around the store, Chen Erbao glanced at the tags and felt the suits all lacked a certain something.

The two left the shop, and Chen Erbao pointed to another suit store in the distance:

"Let's go check that one out."

Zhang Yiyi looked in the direction Chen Erbao was pointing and seemed a little conflicted:

"The clothes there are too expensive. If you don't wear suits often, there's really no need to buy one that pricey..."

Chen Erbao let out a laugh:

"Don't worry. I might not be a billionaire, but I have a bit of cash to spare. I actually do need a proper suit, and I'm planning on buying a watch later, so I'd love it if you could help me pick."

Seeing that Chen Erbao didn't seem to be bluffing, Zhang Yiyi didn't say any more.

Just as the two of them reached the entrance, a young sales associate came up to greet them with a smile:

"Sir, ma'am, how can I help you two today?"

"We're attending a party. Could you help me pick out a couple of suits?"

Chen Erbao walked inside calmly.

The sales associate enthusiastically grabbed a tablet and began her presentation:

"Sir, you've certainly come to the right place. All the suits in our store are made by famous international designers. We can definitely meet your needs."

Chen Erbao glanced at it and saw that the suits started at five thousand, with many even costing tens of thousands. He immediately felt he had come to the right place.

'It wasn't some nouveau riche impulse. He just felt that even though he'd made the money, his spending habits hadn't caught up.'

'With hundreds of millions in the bank, wearing cheap, street-stall clothes every day just didn't seem right.'

'He didn't need to talk business yet, but sooner or later, he'd have to buy them anyway.'

"Which one do you think looks good?"

Chen Erbao really had no talent for fashion; to him, they all looked more or less the same.

Zhang Yiyi swiped a couple of times and selected a few items:

"Why don't you try these on?"

Hearing this, the sales associate quickly went to get the suits.

Chen Erbao took the clothes into the fitting room and came out changed a moment later.

Zhang Yiyi looked up, and her eyes instantly lit up.

'It was true what they say, clothes really do make the man. It wasn't as obvious when he wore his usual sportswear, but in this suit, Chen Erbao's entire aura had changed. He seemed to have gained an air of dignity and maturity.'

'On top of that, Chen Erbao had a great physique—he was tall at 1.85 meters, with broad shoulders and well-developed pectoral muscles. Paired with his handsome face, he was practically a walking mannequin!'

Zhang Yiyi nodded, very satisfied.

Chen Erbao tried on the other two, and they all looked pretty good.

He was about to ask for them to be wrapped up when he suddenly spotted a wine-red suit on a mannequin in the middle of the store.

"That's a nice color. Get it down for me to try."

The sales associate's expression changed slightly, and her tone became serious:

"Mr. Chen, this piece is not for sale; it's a display item. If you really want it, the price might be a bit..."

Chen Erbao really took a liking to the suit:

"Just tell me the price."

"Um... it was tailored by an overseas master and uses various high-end synthetic materials. It's priced at 180,000. But even if you want to buy it, I'd have to apply to the store manager. The procedure is very complicated..."

Chen Erbao had been expecting an astronomical price, so when he heard it was only 180,000:

"Go ahead and apply. If it fits, I'll buy it."

The suit wasn't a bright wine-red, but a more muted, darker shade. However, the cuffs were stitched with a white trim, giving it an even more luxurious look. You could tell it wasn't cheap at a glance!

Hearing Chen Erbao say this, the sales associate was inwardly delighted. 'A big spender!' she thought, and quickly jogged off to call the store manager.

"One hundred and eighty thousand... Is your business really doing that well?!"

Zhang Yiyi was a little stunned.

Although her family had some money, it was mostly a few million in fixed assets. One hundred eighty thousand in cash was no small sum for her.

Chen Erbao said casually:

"I was lucky enough to meet a helpful benefactor and made a little money, so buying a suit is no problem. I already drive a two-million-yuan car, so wearing a 180,000-yuan suit isn't too over the top, right?"

"Yes, yes, Boss Chen! You have to look after your old classmate in the future! Don't forget me when you get rich! WOOF WOOF!"

"WOOF WOOF!"

The two of them burst out laughing.

It was an inside joke from their college days of goofing around, but bringing it up now, the feeling was completely different.

The sales associate returned quickly, her face radiating a brilliant smile:

"Mr. Chen, I'll get it down for you to try on right now. Just a moment!"

She opened the glass display case, carefully took down the suit, and then led Chen Erbao to the fitting room. After he had put on the dress shirt, she personally helped him into the suit jacket.

Zhang Yiyi waited for a moment. When she heard the door open, she looked up, and her mouth fell slightly agape. Her eyes were filled with pure astonishment.

The muted red contrasted sharply with Chen Erbao's fair skin. His well-proportioned figure filled out the suit perfectly, exuding an overwhelming aura of mature masculinity. Complemented by a white tie, the entire look was absolutely dazzling.

"It suits you perfectly!"

Zhang Yiyi praised him endlessly, and the sales associate chimed in with her own compliments.

Chen Erbao looked in the mirror, agreed that it suited him perfectly, and gave a decisive wave of his hand:

"Bag up my old clothes. I'm wearing this one!"

"Of course, sir. Please follow me. I'll upgrade you to our store's highest membership level!"

The sales associate was inwardly ecstatic. She attentively smoothed out a wrinkle on the corner of his jacket and thoughtfully explained the future maintenance procedures.

Only after Chen Erbao's black bank card was swiped through the machine, which beeped twice, could the sales associate finally relax.

'Zhang Yiyi truly hadn't expected Chen Erbao to be doing so well for himself now—buying a 180,000-yuan suit without a second thought.'

"Are we still going to look at watches now?" she asked.

Chen Erbao was about to answer when his gaze suddenly fell upon a dress in the store.

"This would look great on you. You should try it on, too," he said to Zhang Yiyi.

"Huh? Me?"

Zhang Yiyi looked at the dress, and out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed the price tag below: a nine followed by four zeros!

She was secretly stunned:

"Forget it, I have clothes..."

"Just try it on. If it looks good, I'll buy it. Besides, I just got this membership card, right? There's a discount if we buy things together!"

"..."

'The total is already two or three hundred thousand,' Zhang Yiyi thought. 'Even with a discount, that's still something worth over a hundred thousand. I can't afford that!'

'She owned plenty of dresses that cost a few thousand, but she had never even seen a ninety-thousand-yuan dress before!'
