Chapter 338 - Fresh Fruits?! All Kinds?!
Despite saying her shocking remarks, Edward Lu just stared at Lexi as he slowly blinked his eyes. He never once left the sharp gaze from Lexi as she did as well. Edward Lu then put his forefinger inside his ear and slightly shook it before he awkwardly laughed.
"I'm sorry, child. I am old and my hearing always plays with me. What did you say again?"
"I'm pregnant." Without blinking an eye, Lexi clarified that made Edward Lu's face gradually turned aghast as he processed her words very carefully. At first, what she said was something he heard but since he didn't expect that she would say this revelation to him with that kind of expression on her face, he thought his ears were deceiving him.
However, no matter what angle he looked at it, her words could not be misinterpreted as it was clearer than the day; Lexi said she's pregnant!
"So, I won't apologize for giving you my cold shoulder and I don't really care if you think I disrespected you in any way. Anyone who tries to harm me… especially the child inside me, I can't easily forgive them." After a tap of her finger on the armrest, Lexi added bearing the same deadpan reaction on her face. She waited for the utterly shocked wrinkled face of Edward Lu to absorb the news and by the looks of it, he would have a heart attack any minute. Even so, Lexi wasn't concerned as she believed that this old fellow survived the Lu family hence, he would get through this news in no time… which was correct.
Because when Edward Lu finally recovered from the nuclear bomb she just dropped without short notice, his eyes lit up in excitement as he heartily laughed while clapping his hands. After several minutes of gleeful laughs, Edward Lu finally spoke.
"Great! Great news! I mean, when's the wedding? Haha!"
Arching her brows, Lexi briefly moved her eyes on the cup of tea laid on top of the table before returning his gaze back on Edward Lu's giddy countenance. "Old master, your grandson doesn't know yet but that's not my point for tel—" Alas, even before Lexi could finish her sentence, Edward Lu abruptly interrupted.
"He doesn't know?!" Widening his eyes in shock, Edward Lu slightly gaped his mouth open. "You mean to say, you told me before him?! Hah! That brat, hah!" His shock eventually turned into a large, mischievous grin as formed on the side of his lips.
"My dear granddaughter, I sincerely apologize for my miscalculations yesterday. No, I should show my sincerity…" Without further ado, Edward Lu added as he snapped his fingers that instantly made the other door open— revealing a uniformed man that intruded inside.
"My granddaughter was almost, no, she's awfully hurt from yesterday because of the carelessness of the one that was tasked to halt her car. Bring the culprit this instant! How dare he!" Sounding adamantly firm on his order, Edward Lu didn't waste a second as he should correct his wrong so he could start a clean slate with his future granddaughter-in-law that bears Ethan Lu's child.
"Old mas—"
"It's grandpa, my child. Let your grandpa correct his wrongs." Profusely shaking his head sideways, Edward Lu didn't let her finish what she wanted to say as he corrected her address to him. Turning his head to the retreating bodyguard that received his commands, Edward Lu added. "Also, buy all kinds of fresh fruit for my granddaughter! She needs to be healthy, alright? Just fresh fruits are allowed, the best harvest!"
"Wait—!" Initially, Lexi didn't expect this kind of reaction from Ethan Lu's grandfather. She assumed that he would have to question the father of the child or at least, just remain unaffected. Therefore, she was surprised that what he was doing was getting out of hand.
'Fresh fruits? All kinds?!' The tables had been turned as Lexi was the one who had the aghast expression right now. Thus, she stopped the guard even before he could make his exit and made Edward Lu turn and look back at her.
"My dearest granddaughter, what?" Knitting his brows together, Edward Lu was rather confused by the reaction on her face. "Ah, right! What fruits do you dislike so we could avoid buying those?" he assumed that he had gone overboard as Lexi might have the kinds of fruits that she disliked.
"Ah… my god…" Feeling a slight headache, Lexi heavily sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose in distress.
'Why are the people in the Lu family that were close to Ethan have their own kind of weirdness?' Inside her mind, Lexi could not help but remember Evelyn Lu and Louis Lu as they surely inherited that side of them to Edward Lu.
"Granddaughter, why? Are you feeling unwell? Call Doctor Fu this instant! My granddaughter is having a headache, it's urgent! She can't have any stress right now!"
"Please, stop." Under her breath, Lexi helplessly asked as she was at a loss for words for this excited grandfather of her man. How did it escalate to this degree again? Right, it was her fault in the first place.
"Old master, you really want to start on the right foot with me this time? Then, please stop. I want to surprise him and if you act like that, he would know." Using the fact that Edward Lu wanted to have a good restart with her impression of him, Lexi helplessly conceded as part of her told her that nothing could stop him unless it was this reasoning.
Frowning, Edward Lu finally relaxed his trembling shoulders as he leaned his back against the chair. "*Sigh* You have a point… that brat… even without his knowledge, he always had this talent to interfere with my happy moments."
"Thank you, grandpa. I appreciate your thoughtfulness." Seeing him relaxed, Lexi heaved a sigh of relief as her reasoning effectively worked. Regardless, she was moved that Edward Lu wasn't that stiff and tyrannical just like how Ethan Lu slandered his own grandfather to her because of his own fault. Still, he must have his own overbearing attitude, at least, he doesn't use towards her.
Even yesterday, Lexi felt that he was doing what he did out of the goodness of his heart and his concern about his grandson's future wife.
