Chapter 329 - What Did I Do To Deserve You?
After leaving notes with the two, Ethan Lu headed inside again and saw Lexi resting on the couch in the living area. Tilting his head to the side, he stared at Lexi for a while before he followed her gaze to where it was set.
There, what he saw was a small dagger embedded on the wall with a little crack around the wall due to the great force and speed of how the dagger was thrown. Letting out a heavy sigh, Ethan Lu guessed that it was surely the fragments of what happened earlier from his grandfather's visit. Still, his curiosity was piqued on what exactly happened as he didn't expect that his grandfather would go to the extreme in his methods.
Ethan Lu slowly strode to her and sat beside Lexi. Seeing that she didn't turn to see him, another deep sigh escaped his mouth. "Love, I'm sorry for letting you go through all that."
Perhaps, aside from the reason that they were tired, Ethan Lu wanted her to recover from the sight of what she had witnessed earlier. And now, to him, it should have made her remember the shock she received with her private walkthrough with Edward Lu. Despite that Lexi was the one who insisted on going home.
"Nico was the one who threw that… I never actually expected that he would be that violent and extreme. How naive." Recalling the speed in which the dagger was thrown that Lexi actually failed to see with her naked eye, she lowly muttered to herself.
"Nico? He resorted to such action? Why?" When Ethan Lu heard that it was not one of the bodyguards under Edward Lu who did that to the wall, his eyes naturally widened. "Why? Did Grandpa do something to you earlier other than talking?" Instantly agitated, Ethan Lu ground his teeth as he had the urge to go to the main residence right now and turn the whole main residence upside down.
After all, Nico Zhuang would not resort to violence, not unless Lexi's, Ethan Lu's or his own life was in a life-threatening situation. Therefore, Ethan Lu assumed that his grandpa went a little overboard earlier.
Lexi cast him a slight side glance as he was the main culprit as to why everything escalated too quickly. Shaking her head sideways, she chuckled. "Why do you look so mad? Aren't you the one who should be punished? Nico wouldn't go that far to trying to pierce someone's head without a certain someone's order to raise his gun against his grandfather."
"Ehhh?!" Baffled and shocked at the same time, Ethan Lu's expression distorted to the extent that no one would be able to recognize him— even Lexi, as it was clearly an ugly reaction.
"Love, how can you scare us like that? To wield a dangerous weapon like that, are you really thinking about us? Or are you just sure that your grandfather wouldn't harm me in any way?" Lexi hinted the word 'us', alas, in his understanding, she was referring to her and Nico Zhuang… not the baby inside her womb as he was oblivious about it. She added, "When you gave out your orders, someone shifted his muzzle onto me so, Nico had to swing his dagger barely scraping the person on the cheeks. I am not sure if he missed or your grandfather's bodyguard just dodged it. It happened so fast my eyes failed to see what really happened."
Giving him clear details of what happened, his heart sank as he stared at her in a stunned and shameful expression. So in the end, it was his fault…? Ethan Lu jolted from his seat and instantly, his knees crashed against the tiled floor.
Regardless of the sudden pain on his knees, he could not be bothered as he immediately put his hands together as if he was praying with desperation flashing across his pair of dark eyes.
"Love! I'm sorry! I really am! Please forgive me!" he pleaded over and over again. Indeed, what his thoughts earlier were not about Lexi but about what kind of environment he would have to drag her into. What he didn't give a thought about was, if a loyal Edward Lu bodyguard fanatic would daringly raise his gun on her knowing her position— disregarding his wrath that may occur afterward.
"Silly… get up. Though I was mad earlier, it is still better to see what would happen to me if both of us are not careful. So, it's fine… I fully understand you." Slightly shaking her head, Lexi relaxed her back as she rested on the couch, feeling all of the activities today thoroughly exhausted her body.
"What did I do to deserve you? *sigh*" Her instant forgiveness made his already melted heart soften even more. At this time, he slowly got up and winced a little because of his knees before sitting beside her again.
Ethan Lu then laid on the couch— his head on her lap while his feet overlapped each other over the long couch armrest— his exhausted body grew more tired. Instinctively, Lexi played with a strand of her hair as she looked at his ever dashing front with a contented gaze and heart.
"You're wrong… that should be my line." Softly staring at him, Lexi lowly muttered which made him smile while closing his eyes to rest them for a bit.
The dreaded atmosphere, as the fragments of the shocking scene earlier replayed in her mind, that late afternoon soon dissipated with their aura filling and spreading across the whole villa. Though both of them were evidently exhausted due to their affairs that day, just staring at one another and having a peaceful surrounding could fill their heart with contentment.
Not to mention, Lexi was still wearing her red dress and her light makeup was still on, making her extra beautiful while Ethan Lu was still in his retro maroon tux giving them a picturesque view of a noble couple resting in their modern castle.
Just as the two were enjoying their peace, it was soon interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing. One doorbell ring, both ignored it for a while but, the next was a continuous and impatient set of rings that irked Ethan Lu to the core.
"Goddamnit! I swear if this is Lyrick, he should be ready to be buried alive!" Annoyed, Ethan Lu grumbled in dismay by the sudden interruption. Little did he know that his guest for tonight would make him delighted… delighted to torture a certain someone.
