Chapter 273 - You Like Chu?
When Lexi recovered, Ethan Lu took care of her like a person with a disability and swiftly carried her to the bed.
"I'll make dinner for us— rest here for a while okay?" Tucking her in like a child, Ethan Lu said. Lexi only nodded with half of her face covered by the blanket.
She felt spoiled after crying and loved his extra gentleness afterward. Still, Lexi didn't have the energy to assist him for making dinner as the thousands of thoughts running through her mind burdened her down— sucking all of her energy.
"I'm sorry for making you cry, I love you." Even after receiving her approval, Ethan Lu didn't leave her for an instant and remained by her side to stroke her hair.
"Love you too..." In a meek and faint tone, Lexi replied which made him smile a little. Ethan Lu only kissed the tip of her nose before he reluctantly went to the walk-in closet for a change of clothes and left the room to make them dinner after glancing at her for the last time.
When he left, Lexi repositioned herself and lied on her back. Staring at the ceiling, all of her 'why's' gradually hovered in her mind.
"Why..." She murmured under her breath. Lexi knew that Morris Liu must have his reasons but what was so bad that he had to push her away and treat her so badly— causing her to lose her mind?
No matter how curious she was, Lexi's desire to hear it from the man himself— not Ethan Lu, won over. In that case, she could have peace of mind and closure between the two of them so that they could move forward.
Still, Lexi tried to analyze all of the occurrences that had happened one year ago. Back when she arrived in the country, Morris Liu was adamant to send her back abroad. However, because he never really explained the reason in the beginning, Lexi refused just as firmly as Morris Liu's determination was to send her away.
It only made sense to her when she caught the text message from Mia Chen followed by Morris Liu's confession for having an affair. Therefore, due to her anger, Lexi opposed all of Morris Liu's wishes just to get back at him.
The only thing she didn't do was play around with guys as she could not bring herself to do so. After all, she was crazily in love with him... or perhaps, her pride and ego was stomped on by being surpassed by a nobody. Hence, Lexi bullied Mia Chen to the extent of her abilities— bringing it to the extreme.
Not just that, she also lowered her value for throwing herself at the man that she thought she could only love. Say it, she did every seduction scheme she could think of to entice him. Yet, with every rejection she received, Lexi's earnestness grew even more extreme.
"If he did love me then... how did you cope whenever you hurt me?" She murmured as all of the painful expressions she thought she saw in him in the past finally confirmed that Morris Liu really cared for her and they were not just her hallucinations.
"What did you feel while lying to me and even more, what did you feel when I committed suicide... what were your thoughts about it?" She added in a soft tone as her expression slowly changed.
Was she curious because she still loved him? No. Lexi was hurt that was why the two of them should suffer? Well, she already knew why they didn't work out as she wouldn't be able to be with Ethan Lu if not. However, what about him? What about Morris Liu whom now due to everything has lost everything, even his love?
Lexi knew that even after knowing the details of his reasons, it would never be enough for her feelings for Ethan Lu to waver. But, she was still hesitant to hear it, she was afraid that she wouldn't even care.
Suddenly, in the middle of her stupor, she heard the door open which snapped her back to reality and she turned her head towards the direction of the door. There, Ethan Lu unhurriedly closed the door once again before taking strides to the side of the bed.
As soon as Ethan Lu arrived at the side of the bed, he sat on the edge and looked at her with loving eyes. "Love, I saw this while I was traveling to one of my meetings."
Ethan Lu slowly revealed the stuff that he was hiding behind him. Lexi slowly moved her gaze to his hand and her eyes slightly lit up.
What he was holding was a small cute dumpling keychain. It was small enough that it could fit in her grip. It has eyes, smiling lips, small little hands, and feet. Overall, it was cute and looked almost the same as her muse.
For everyone's information, Lexi had been obsessed with dumpling images that she even made her laboratory to be designed like a dumpling was hugging it. Moreover, she purchased dumpling toys and other merchandise online including plushies, shirts, and even a blanket with a bun print on it.
Upon seeing her lovely reaction, the side of Ethan Lu's lips curled upward as his gaze softened. Him being a little late for his meeting earlier felt so worth it because it brightened her mood even just a little.
"You like Chu?" He asked which made her nod and snatch the keychain from him.
For some reason, Lexi, out of the blue named the dumpling Chu. She didn't know the reason as she told him that the idea for the name just came out of nowhere— disregarding all the names Ethan Lu suggested for their non-living pet.
"Thank you," After poking the cute keychain, Lexi raised her gaze to the pair of eyes staring down at her with love, a subtle smile plastered across her lips and thanked him.
"Anything for you." He nodded once before stroking her head— gently petting her as she focused on staring at the dumpling.
Ethan Lu just stayed there while watching her poke the bun keychain he bought. He was only snapped back to reality when Lexi asked; "Is the dinner ready?
"Shoot! I forgot!" Upon being reminded of the food he was preparing that was still being cooked on minimum heat, his eyes dilated as Ethan Lu instantly jolted from his seat and sprinted downstairs.
Lexi could only chuckle with his reaction as she shook her head. "I guess we have to help him to save ourselves from eating the overly cooked dinner." She muttered to the dumpling before she decided to get out of bed and change her clothes before heading downstairs.
