Chapter 106 - Letting Him Know
The very instant Lexi uttered her words, an abrupt squeak was heard as Abigail Fan stepped on the break and coming to a full halt. Fortunately, Lexi was secured by the seatbelt and only made her suddenly leaned forward before being pushed back again.
She automatically blocked Churu from falling before casting a deadly glare to the driver's seat.
"Are you trying to kill me?!" Lexi growled, agitated on the abrupt maneuvering interruption that happened. What displeased her the most is the fact that Churu almost fell from her lap and if it wasn't for her fast reflexes, the poor dumpling would roll to the car's footrest.
"Sorry sorry -- I was just too shocked about what you said!" Realizing his hasty action, Abigail Fan apologized but she slightly raised as she explained the cause behind it. She never expected that suggestion from her as Lexi must have known that she already tried before, but to no avail, establishing an agency in this industry was easier said than done.
Moreover, who's the artist would she manage? Lexi? She hasn't even confirmed if she would acknowledge her as her manager despite agreeing to this arrangement. After all, they didn't have a signed contract and this could be considered as the leats favor to return the unconventional help Lexi had done in the past.
After a heavy sighed, Abigail Fan resumed on driving as she uttered, "I'm sorry, I just, you know… had always been my plan but with the current pretense between me and VM entertainment, I don't think I could possibly do that. I am just glad that this role may be your key to redeem your reputation back."
"Apology accepted but, don't ever do that again. Also, send me a contract -- my contract with VM would end anyway." After calmly hearing Abigail Fan's sincere words, Lexi offered. It might be such audacity of her to say such words as Lexi's career seemed hopeless. However, from a businessman's perspective, Lexi was confident with Abigail Fan's capabilities. After all, she wouldn't remain as her one and only manager if she didn't have the knack for it. Hence, to Lexi, it was a good investment to put her forthcoming income from the movie.
Furthermore, the movie was already a guaranteed hit. Therefore, it wasn't questionable why Che Diayu could only bribe the side character role as it was said that Chang'e's role would be an iconic one that would shine on its own aside from the main leads… which on the second thought gave Lexi a realization -- this role reminds her of Churu.
Upon hearing her benevolent offer, Abigail Fan heedlessly stepped on the brake once again causing the same occurrence earlier. This time, Lexi's eyes widened in disbelief as she just forgave Abigail and she repeated it again! Rendered speechless by what to feel, Lexi slowly turned her head to Abigail Fan's direction.
That very instant when Abigail Fan realized what she had done again, her complexion paled and panic gradually displayed on her face as she clumsily reasoned out. "I -- I'm sorry but I just -- I was just too shocked from your offer!"
Seeing how Lexi wordlessly sharpened her eyes, Abigail Fan's heart was immediately engulfed with dread. This time, her brainless action must change Lexi's mind as she already told her not to do it again. Abigail Fan didn't notice Lexi's hand that was assisting invisible creature on her lap.
"You… Just what are you thinking?!" Growling in dismay, Lexi grinded her teeth as this was the second offense. To think that she just showed her mercy, she actually did it at the same time! This is her second chance in life for god sake and she doesn't want to lose it because of Abigail Fan's recklessness!
"Sorry, sorry, really! I didn't mean it -- it's my fault! Sorry!" Abigail Fan uttered all the pleasing sorry she could ever spout in her life as she was terrified seeing Lexi on her beast mode. If only she could kowtow, she would!
After some time, Lexi clicked her tongue in annoyance as she leered at her. It was pointless if she lashed out on Abigail. The most important is that Churu and Lexi were unharmed and she only needed for Abigail to drive her safe and sound.
"Do it again and see what I'll do to you," Lexi warned before leaning her back against the somehow comfortable leather upholstery of the front passenger seat. Abigail Fan spoke her words of gratitude numerous times before driving again.
This time, she made sure to secure her heart with an imaginary iron to prepare herself whatever bomb Lexi would utter. However, Lexi wouldn't talk to her again, not unless they weren't home.
"We'll talk in my place -- we might not be lucky anymore if you stop driving in the middle of the road." Putting an abrupt period on their discussion, Lexi slightly shook her head as she unlocked her phone again.
Since the beginning, Lexi wanted to give Ethan a call to deliver the good news. However, Abigail kept on interrupting and almost made her forget to inform Ethan. After all, he stubbornly urged her to not missed the chance and hence, she felt she was obliged to let him know at least.
Thinking of what he might be doing right now, Lexi decided to send her a message instead of a call as he might be in the middle of a meeting as he had a scheduled meeting with Morris Liu.
[To: Ethan Lu
Hey, guess what? I got the role! Hmm, well, just letting you know. Anyways, thanks. ]
God knows how many times Lexi deleted and recompose her chat with him and in the end, she only came up with this short message.
"Whatever, this should be fine." Lexi faintly murmured as she unhesitantly pressed the send button which instantly displayed that it was sent. Meanwhile, Abigail Fan was slightly curious about what was Lexi mumbling about but heed no mind to it.
