Chapter 690 - 690: The fight for the main distortion (part 18)
Seeing their barrage of attacks evaporate like nothing on the face of that stream of ash-red fire, which still flew into the distance, burning through the kilometers of both water and metal spirit energy that conformed their seas of knowledge, only depleting itself after coming out of one of the sea’s extremes, the enemies were momentarily at a loss.
At least until the Ocean Aquamarine captain elder felt his soul enhanced spirit sense warning him of danger, making him slash his spear at his right, just in time for him to block a sharp green wind cladded shard.
“Booom!”, the energy clash caused a small explosion, which finally alerted the vice-captain elder from the Iron Hall who was supposed to protect the Ocean Aquamarine captain, making him grit his teeth.
That surprise attack had completely bypassed his battle instincts, due to the speed at which the shard had flew at his teammate.
“Heavy Shield Silver Charge!”, with a loud shout, he exploded in dark gray spirit energy as he rushed at the Ocean Aquamarine captain, taking him away while he was defending against Sarina’s fierce wind spirit energy.
The explosive increase in short distance speed, allowed them to get away of immediate danger before they flashed away to reunite with the other two members of their team.
And naturally the vice from the Iron Hall, directly lashed away at the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine, after all he risked his life by taking an attack from that insanely high ranked spirit sword to create that chance for them to attack and they didn’t take advantage of it.
‘I can understand your captain’s attack being countered by the wind attribute of that woman as well as my captain’s attack being melted due to that fire attribute, however why the hell is someone with water attribute being completely bested when clashing with a fire attribute!’, he exclaimed in a voice that only they could hear.
The rain of arrows was intentionally spread out so that Sarina couldn’t eliminate them with a single attack, unless she used her wind attribute to cover such a vast area, but that would have been counterproductive since wind isn’t a counter to metal unlike fire, and if she chose fire to deal with the metal slashing attacks, the water arrows would pour down on her.
It was done so that one of the two attacks reached the enemy, however, they didn’t expect that just exposure to those ash-red flames would actually make all the water arrows evaporate, while the attack melted away the metal attribute of the captain from the Iron Hall, as well.
Which rendered the danger that the vice from the Iron Hall took, null, it was normal that he was livid, on the other hand the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine wasn’t just going to take the insult while lying down, it also didn’t help that Aster who might not be able to listen to what the vice from the Iron Hall said, could easily guess what he thought based on his expression, heartbeat and overall angered state.
“I wonder if others would be able to tell who actually comes from a place called “Supreme Elemental Sect” after seeing the result of the previous clash”, he mockingly said, nearly making the vice from the Iron Hall charge at him due to anger, before he turned to glare at the one who from his point of view screwed up the most.
‘What do you know, the intensity of the fire she used this time was on a completely different level, your captain might not have noticed it, but I had soul energy imbued into my arrows, so I can safely say that the fire she used this time was at least three times stronger than before’, said the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine to the vice from the Iron Hall who snorted in response.
But as he was about to refute, his own captain stopped him by saying.
‘It’s the number of those damn shards, earlier she used only three of them with those flames, the other three had wind, her attention and the amount of spirit energy she used was divided’.
‘However, she used nine of them and only fire attribute this time, so it’s believable that her flames got stronger… I still must say that I’m disappointed on the performance of the water attribute of one of the supposedly strongest water lineages of the four Heavenly Quadrants, though’.
The vice from the Ocean Aquamarine saw red for a second however, one of the innate abilities of his lineage was triggered and he was forced to cool down before he did something stupid, which made his captain sigh, as he knew that the activation of “Flowing Heart” was limited to once a day for they who weren’t at the direct descendant level.
‘Don’t fall for that guy’s provocations anymore, we still have a couple of aces up our sleeves’, added the captain from the Iron Hall.
He had to admit that the blond woman in front of him was insanely talented when it came to both energy and elemental manipulation, in fact he was sure that if she would have entered the Supreme Elemental sect, she would have been nurtured to become at least a Core Elder.
Friendly Reminder, the Blazeheart, a second-tier force only had members of their family as Core Elders at the best, of course they had influence in the higher echelon but that was because they had agreements with other forces and families, not because they had members of their own family in higher ranked positions such as Supreme Elders or Law Enforcers.
‘Damn Talis bastards did they actually went through the trouble to look for someone as talented as that woman just to insult us, and they even gave her to the Lord of the Twin Sword Valley, they are as crazy as the rumors say!’, inwardly cursed the Iron Hall’s captain.
The Supreme Elemental sect was created to “mock” the Myriad Occupation sect, which is why instead of going for something as specific as a profession to divide their sect, they chose elements which have a wider variety, the vision of their sect was to have members of the strongest elemental families and forces gathered in a single place.
In fact, in fact there are members of three of the four Ruler families in their sect, and an heir member of the young generation of each one of them is registered as well, though they don’t really spend much time in the sect but remain in their respective families.
The same applies to other upper ranked first tier forces and families, since it’s a good place to make connections and the like, of course not all send their youth to join, because there are countless hidden alliances and agreements among the different forces from high ranked Stellar Systems, but around a third of them have done so.
And the most famous exception is the sole Ruler level family that outright refused to even send a member of the distant branches of their family, the Talis.
William’s family who are known for their insanely high talent in offensive metal and earth attributes, not only refused to send someone to be the Ancestor of the metal and earth branches of the Supreme Elemental sect, but even directly announced that they will blacklist any force and family from the Heavenly Quadrant they ruled, that sent their members to the Supreme Elemental sect.
The reason… they were offended by they claiming that their sect will have the strongest metal and earth attributed cultivators, just because of that they started a fight with around five upper ranked first tier families and forces that had joined, at the same time and the worst part is that they overwhelmingly won.
That’s why the Talis are probably the most problematic among the three Ruler level families to have as enemies, there are not only a bunch of crazy battle junkies in positions of authority, but when it comes to outer threats there is zero inner conflict, is strange that though they fight among themselves all the time, they basically move as one when it comes to dealing with others.
And from that day onwards, the Talis and the Supreme Elemental sect have been at each other throats, which is why the captain from the Iron Hall didn’t doubt that Sarina was a hidden card that they prepared just to kick them down when the chance appeared.
After thinking about it for a moment, the Iron Hall’s captain spoke what was in his mind.
‘If she was sent by the Talis, we won’t be able to reach that woman with our offense spread like before, both captains need to attack her at the same time, while the vice-captains hold her down, that will be our best shot’, he said, to which both vice-captains frowned.
They will be easy targets for the enemy if they didn’t have a captain with them, well at least the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine, as he is a long-range fighter, if the blond woman goes directly for him, he will be done in nine out of ten cases, specially if the vice-captain from the Iron Hall, whom he has antagonized doesn’t cover for him.
Unfortunately for him, his captain agreed with the conclusion reached by the Iron Hall’s captain.
‘I agree, that belt from which those shards come and go, still has a lot that haven’t been used, we can guess that she has the capacity to use around nine for each of her attributes while maintaining that much firepower’.
‘But captain, while I can block on our side, our offensive won’t do anything to her’, complained the vice from the Iron Hall as he glared at the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine.
‘That won’t be the case, because we’ll be going all out, that means using “Aquamarine Flow” on our side and both Yang Radiance and “Silver Frenzy” on yours’, answered the Ocean Aquamarine captain, which made the vice-captains tremble.
Those were their last resorts, techniques that will have a hefty price for them to use, be it in terms of lifespan or their lineage worsening, but most importantly they saw Mariana resorting to that and still losing.
Still, the captain from the Iron Hall seemed to have already considered that as well.
‘Unlike those guys we won’t take things slow nor distribute them, we’ll burn ourselves in a single large release to strike that bitch down as hard as we can, I don’t believe she can come out unscathed from that’.
Certainly, even when using their last resorts, the elders from both the Blazeheart and Mountain Amber, took it “slow” as in they paid the price in small quantities, because that way they will suffer as little as possible from the backslash of their techniques.
But that also came with the price that the explosive increase in strength they could have obtained, was diminished and also divided in smaller dosages, and the remaining enemies learned from that, which is why they weren’t going to keep anything, it was a do or die kind of situation for them anyway, since they still had the Lord of the Twin Sword Valley eyeing them.
Their literal only chance was to gravely wound the blond woman and then use the chaos to escape as fast as they could.
“Get ready”, having finished preparing mentally, the captain from the Ocean Aquamarine took the initiative to set the example, the dual line blue pattern that went from his right hand all the way to his right eye, lit up in a fluid blue light.
“Aquamarine Flow!”, with a loud shout, those blue lines produced a stream of aquamarine colored water that then entangled around the right arm and shoulder of the Ocean Aquamarine captain.
The atmosphere around him also changed a lot, even the pressure that his sea of knowledge was applying or at least trying to apply on Sarina skyrocketed, to the point that the wind barrier around her, was pushed back a bit.
It didn’t come with a price though, the face of the captain was rather pale and a few locks of his blue hair lost their luster, he didn’t age but it was clear that his lineage concentration had diminished.
‘Hoh, not a direct improvement in a single aspect, but a “flexible” boost that can be applied to a variety of situations, depending on the needs of the user, I guess they aren’t a water attributed family for nothing, also… that explains why that idiot seemed so interested in Nerissa’, thought Aster as he used his dragon eyes to inspect that aquamarine-colored stream of water.
Nerissa’s swordsmanship was the epitome of flexibility, she had different techniques to use depending on her needs, and apparently the Ocean Aquamarine had a lineage technique that could go perfectly along with that.
Or so it would seem at first, but after inspecting that water stream Aster simply snorted at such an idea.
‘Idiots, a generic boost is not the same as a having a technique for every situation like Nerissa is aiming to obtain, they aim to become “jacks of all trades” including different weapon usage, while Nerissa’s goal is to be a “master of all” but focused on the sword, from the very beginning the base of their fighting style is not fit for her Nine Sea Sword manual’, he concluded.
Unlike Nerissa whose obsession with the sword doesn’t lose when compared to Iris, which could be the sole “rigid” aspect of her, as she is a swordswoman through and through, the people from the Ocean Aquamarine don’t limit themselves to a single type of weapon, they follow flexibility even in that aspect.
‘Well, they could adapt it to work with other weapons, if they have someone more talented then Nerissa among the members of their young generation which I highly doubt so’, amusingly thought Aster.
Back to the fight, the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine followed though he was obviously hesitant.
“Aquamarine Flow!”, the single line blue pattern that went from his left foot to his left eye, lit up in blue light before a stream of aquamarine blue water condensed around the left side of his body, he also immediately showed the signs of having his lineage concentration diminished, which is probably what angered him the most.
After all, the captain was better than him, so even if he lost some bloodline purity, he’ll still have enough potential to reach the Heavenly realms without too much trouble, however for the vice the biggest possibility is that he’ll end up stuck in the half Heavenly realm now, he was forgetting something important though, he needed to survive for that.
“Silver Frenzy!”, it was the turn for the captain from the Iron Hall, his body which suddenly exploded in gray spirit energy, became a bit more muscular and then his eyes gained a gray tone, at first it didn’t seem like a big change.
But that’s because the change happened on the inside, unlike Silver Skin which reinforces the outer body, and can be extended to one’s techniques and weapons, which is a way to support the secondary energy path of the members of the Iron Hall, as they are main body path cultivators, Silver Frenzy is complete opposite.
It only has one purpose and that is to increase the capacities of close combat by circulating spirit energy through one’s flesh, blood and bones, which sounds like a completely good thing, but it basically causes the same effect as tempering one’s body, with an extremely strong reagent, an insane amount of pain, hence why this technique has the word “Frenzy” on its name.
Also, since it puts a lot of stress on the body, if used by those who aren’t supposed to do so, which in this case is basically any cultivator below the Void Manipulation realm, it causes damage to the meridians, it causes long term damage but they don’t lose potential, so in a sense it has a lower price than that of the technique used by the Ocean Aquamarine.
The difference is that the “Aquamarine Flow” only has a bloodline purity requirement, if those elders fulfilled that they could use it without any side effect, as long as they don’t overexert themselves, they’ll simply end up in a temporarily weakened state after that.
Unfortunately for all those that didn’t meet that requirement, the only way to activate it is to burn their lineage, most bloodline-oriented families or forces have techniques like that, which is why there is a big gap between those that are considered direct descendants and those who aren’t, because they have access to these techniques without a permanent price.
And in case you wonder why Mariana who was supposed to be a black horse didn’t have something like this as she just pushed the Mountain Armor past her limits, but these guys whose talent is supposed to be lower than hers, do, that’s easy, Wade gave them the manual before sending them to deal with Aster.
He as a heir has the authority to make such “exceptions” on who can learn the lineage techniques of the Cascade family branch, depending on the situation and he judged this to be a case for it, unfortunately for Mariana no heir level figure from the Mountain Amber family with access to the physical copy of a technique like this one, was on board, so she had to make do with what she had learned through her merits alone, not that it would have made that big of a difference in front of the treasure girl.
“Silver Frenzy!”, the vice from the Iron Hall didn’t even doubt it and followed his captain, in any case his chances of survival were higher than those of the one who will be paired with him, especially now that his overall defense will increase.
And with that, the last assault could start.
“Aquamarine Cascade Flowing Step!”, the elders from the Ocean Aquamarine both had their legs cladded by that aquamarine-colored water stream, before they disappeared from plain sight, their movement technique was different and the speed they attained quite surpassed what they were able to achieve before.
“Silver Frenzy Charge!”, the elders from the Iron Hall were much flashier, their whole bodies exploded in gray light, before they turned in metallic gray meteors that shot towards Sarina.
“Booom!”, their speed reached the level where the shockwave came way after they had taken their moves, in fact the sonic explosion came at the same time as they appeared in front of Sarina with their respective weapons already being aimed at her.
“Aquamarine Cascade Tsunami Thrust!”, the captain elder from the Ocean Aquamarine took the right side, his flexible spear was cladded in that aquamarine water stream which was rotating at high speed, boosting the offensive power of his technique, add to that the huge wave of water spirit energy that was accompanying the captain, it was both a wide area and single target attack.
“Silver Sword Crushing Slash!”, the captain from the Iron Hall went for a simple but effective technique, a heavy slashing attack, heavy as in he swung his sword with all his might, which made the air tremble as the sword descended upon the enemy, add to that the fact that his sword also exploded in yellow flames, he endured the extreme pain of his technique and yang radiance being used at the same time.
They two captains had arrived a fraction of a second before the vice-captains, which would lead others to believe they were the ones that would first take action, but that wasn’t the case at all.
They were simply in charge of the frontal assault, but the ones that were going to attack first were the vice-captains, who appeared behind Sarina, they who were “slower” suddenly accelerated thanks to the shield user vice-captain.
“Silver Shield Overwhelming Charge!”, the vice from the Iron Hall, had his eyes become bloodshot by the pain caused by the technique and the lifespan he just burned in a single go to make his large shield burn in yang flames, also his speed further increased thanks to his technique, so much that he couldn’t change his direction even if he wanted to, he went all in.
And it seemed to be pay off, because he was reaching the target a whole second before the captains, even after arriving later to create the illusion that he was just there as a support, also the vice from the Ocean Aquamarine who had held onto his shoulder also moved at that same speed.
With the difference that thanks to his secondary soul path cultivation he was able to properly maneuver even at such high speed.
“Aquamarine Cascade Piercing Arrow!”, that aquamarine water stream gathered on the blue wood bow of the vice-captain, since his wide area attacks were easily vaporized earlier, he decided to use a single target attack in which he concentrated all his offensive power.
“Now that is quite an amazing amount of metal and water spirit energy you have gathered, quite a bad idea… during a storm”, mumbled Sarina who remained calm in front of the full assault of those four, she didn’t even unsheathe her sword and instead simply pressed her right middle finger against her thumb to then snap.
“Hsssss!”, crackling sounds came from above, which drew the attention of the elders from the Ocean Aquamarine elders, as they were the only ones able to more or less react, due to their soul cultivation.
‘T-Triple attribute!’, was the last thing that crossed their minds, as a total of twenty shards which had arcs of yellow electricity running through them formed a large circle above Sarina.
“Boooooom!”, what followed was a huge lightning that covered everything within a kilometer, descending from the sky.
