The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 915: Sealing the Deal!
The technique that Morita used in this case was not the most sophisticated or complicated one. No, it wasn’t a curve that would make the ball move like a banana to avoid the wall, nor was it a powerful ball that would break the entire wall with brute force.
No, Morita didn’t even need any excessive run-up. He just walked casually, as if this was not even a big occasion at all, and with his inside foot, he chipped the ball lightly, enough to get through the wall from above.
Thud!
He didn’t play with power and curve here. No, just a pure, extreme placement, putting the ball to the small spot below the cross section of the goalpost and crossbar. Hell, that chip alone was so slow and with no power, only enough to get through the wall here.
However, the goalkeeper couldn’t really react in time since he didn’t know where Morita would send the ball, and even though the man decided to dive with one hand extended far to block it, in the end, he failed to do so.
CLANK!
The ball hit the crossbar quite loudly, and right after that, it bounced toward the ground one last time before the sound of the net getting hit was heard across the pitch. The next thing everyone knew, the poor goalkeeper fell to the ground quite violently, and the ball itself was just rolling inside the goal.
"OOOOOH! WHAT A FREE KICK!" All the Schalke players around roared instantly. "FUCKING HELL, MORITA! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!" They all rushed toward the boy, wanting to celebrate the goal together.
However, Morita himself also had his own thoughts on how to celebrate the goal. The moment he saw the ball go into the back of the net, he turned around immediately, rushing back to Schalke’s own territory while pointing at Higo with great enthusiasm.
"Yes, Ryusuke! I told you this would work!" The boy laughed, jumping straight into Higo’s hug the moment the goalkeeper spread his arms. "Come on! I fucking know it!" He shook his friend quite violently, showing how ecstatic he was right now.
Indeed, if there was anyone that Morita could give credit for in this goal, it would be none other than Higo. Oh, the goalkeeper might not do that much in the free kick, but the process of getting one still couldn’t escape from his brilliance.
After all, it was Higo who snatched the ball in the air, and it was also he who managed to find Morita within a second before anyone could react and pass the ball so accurately that the only thing that Morita needed to do was push forward without having to worry about people chasing from behind.
In the end, most of the dirty jobs here were already done by Higo the moment he caught that corner kick, and Morita just stole the limelight with his brilliancy.
Still, Higo didn’t feel anything negative about this. He accepted all the love he received from Morita with the same huge grin, finding his friend so kind to invite him to this little celebration.
"Hah! I know you can do that, Morita-san! Show them what the best player in our generation could truly do!" Higo laughed as he praised the midfielder.
Morita’s gaze softened instantly when he heard that. Honestly, the boy had already forgotten about all the titles that he received during his high school time, knowing that here, in Europe, so many talented players were still better and even younger than him.
However, Higo was probably the only one who still looked up to him, thinking that he was still the best among the best.
It might be ridiculous, but this was the encouragement that Morita needed, a fuel that drove him to prove that he was still the same brilliant boy who wreaked havoc back home a few years ago.
"Hey, hey, you two! What the hell are you talking about?!" Benjamin Stambouli chimed in, hugging those two with his wide wingspan. "Stop talking Japanese, please! Everyone here wants to know what you are saying here! You don’t talk shit about any of us, right?" He narrowed his eyes playfully.
"Hah! Talking about you?!" Morita snorted. "Why would we do that secretly when we could just say it straight to your face?!" He retorted with no heat in his tone.
They laughed together here, feeling like all the pressure in this game was lifted instantly at that point. Not that anyone could blame them, since that goal basically sealed the deal for Schalke.
With only ten men on the pitch, being down by two goals, and only ten minutes remaining, it was basically a mission impossible for Frankfurt to overturn the table. They themselves also knew it, as some started to show their dejected face.
Of course, that didn’t mean they would just give up in that moment. No, some of the players, especially those who still wanted to prove themselves, went berserk to get at least one goal first to fire the spark inside their teammates again.
Nassim, especially, felt the need to showcase what he had done earlier, wanting to light up the team’s spirit with his action. Unfortunately, right after the goal, Sead Kolasinac was replaced by Timo Becker, and the man, younger and fresher, could handle him quite well, holding his own ground without giving too much space to the Moroccan winger.
Daichi Kamada and Luca Jovic were still trying as well. Their sharp movement, dribbling ability, and positioning were always threatening, and sometimes managed to get them so close to the goal itself.
However, Higo’s focus sharpened instantly the closer they were to the end of the game, not allowing the opponent to get a goal here.
In the end, with Frankfurt’s ten players being so frustrated, the referee finally took notice on his watch, and the moment the additional time was over...
FWEEE! FWEEE! FWEEE!
The referee finally blew the whistle three times in a row, ending the game with Schalke getting their first win in the last three games.
Eintracht Frankfurt 0 – 2 Schalke 04
