The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 912: Delay on the Pitch, Cutting Off Frankfurt’s Momentum!
It wasn’t like Higo was exaggerating things here. No, the boy truly believed that Malick Thiaw had just saved the team’s fate, as that shot went far to the top corner where it would slam into the net without Higo being able to touch it.
If that ball went in, Higo was so sure that the team’s mental state would drop instantly, and no one knew whether they could recover quickly enough to prevent the second goal from happening.
Just thinking about that scenario was enough to make Higo shudder, shaking his head quickly as he didn’t want to imagine that.
However, Malick Thiaw was not in the right place to celebrate the goal-line clearance here. No, the boy was still unconscious, and when Higo noticed that his teammate didn’t respond to his words, looking so dizzy as if he didn’t know what was going on or even where he was right now, he turned around quickly and shouted to the bench with a hint of panic.
"SENSEI! SENSEI! BRING THE MEDIC HERE! EMERGENCY!"
Everyone was so stunned for a second, not knowing why Higo suddenly fell into panic. However, once they saw Malick was still lying on the ground, unable to raise his head properly, everything clicked in right at that second, and chaos erupted on the sideline right after that.
"Medic! Medic! Get on him!" Frohling roared, waving at the medical team to get onto the pitch as quickly as possible.
Daniel Guzman, the team’s medical member, didn’t need to be told twice here. With his medical kit in hand, the man and two more people rushed as quickly as possible, knowing that they were racing against time when it came to head injuries.
The rest of the team also came to see what was going on, showing their concern for their teammate. After all, Malick Thiaw had done a great service with that clearance earlier, so he deserved some respect here.
Of course, it wasn’t like they just wanted to delay the game and enjoy the cold sensation coming from the bottle of water that the medical team carried to the pitch. No, they were not that cunning to be able to think of something like that.
Still, looking at the disoriented Malick Thiaw, they couldn’t help but feel worried right now. After all, there was a big chance that the boy would have to be replaced due to this injury, and he had done well so far for the team.
Losing him would be a big blow for the defensive line morally, as they didn’t even have any time to celebrate the clearance earlier before the boy had to leave the game prematurely.
Of course, not everyone was sympathetic toward this situation. Nassim stood next to Higo as he also took a big gulp of water that the goalkeeper gave him before the winger let out a little snort.
"You are so lucky that this happened, or our momentum will be too strong for you to handle, you know that, right?"
Higo didn’t even blink here, replying, "Luck is a part of strength. Only a stronger team is blessed by the God of fortune, you know that?"
If people who knew them heard this, they would be startled and slightly confused about why they would suddenly talk trash to each other. After all, those two had always been close friends, never having any conflict either on or off the pitch.
However, they had always been like this. They could be friends, but the moment they were put on opposite sides, having to fight against each other even if it was just a training session, they would treat it seriously, trying to kill each other without mercy.
At least, that was the kind of professionalism that they put in their heart when they were still fighting together for Schalke.
In the end, just as Higo and many other players expected, Daniel Guzman finally shook his head, signalling the coach that Malick Thiaw couldn’t continue the game. On the bench, Bastian Ozcipka was also getting ready to come and fill in the gap. However, the atmosphere was different on Schalke’s part here.
’Damn, this is going to be difficult to handle...’
It wasn’t like they didn’t trust Ozcipka, but after Malick Thiaw had done so much for the team today, it would be hard to replicate his role in the team.
Coincidentally enough, the same thought also popped on Frankfurt’s side. Filip Kostic came to Nassim for a moment, whispering, "So, how is it? Do you think you can do it again?"
For that, the Moroccan winger just smiled helplessly. "The momentum is gone. Now, they will regain their calmness, and breaking through their defense would be way more difficult than earlier."
The Serbian wingback was quiet for a moment before letting out a sigh of regret and annoyance. "Damn! If only my shot went in instead of hitting that boy, we would’ve already pushed for victory, right? Fuck, this is my fault..." He muttered in self-deprecation.
Nassim didn’t give any answer here. It wasn’t like he blamed Filip Kostic, since that chance was so hard to convert. However, the boy also admitted that if only it hadn’t hit Malick Thiaw, the momentum would still be on their side right now.
So, yeah, those two teams came back to the pitch with the same annoyed thought right now, feeling like the pressure was completely on their side.
Soon enough, both players were finally back and ready to restart the game. This time, Filip Kostic was on the corner spot, preparing for the free kick since his last shot was headed away by Malick Thiaw.
So many players were also gathering on the penalty box, waiting for the whistle to be blown.
Then, a moment later...
FWEEE!
BAM!
The corner kick was finally executed, with Filip Kostic sending it straight to the area behind the six-yard box. Usually, that would be the ideal place to put the ball, since it would be slightly far from Higo’s territory.
However, the boy didn’t think too much about it, rushing to get the ball in the air.
Thud!
Once he got the ball on his clutch, though, his eyes darted toward the frontline immediately, finding the one person he was looking for.
’Well, Morita-san, time for you to shine again!’
