The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 749: Erling Haaland! Back to Draw!
This time, Higo’s clairvoyance was definitely useless for him to handle this situation. So many images came and went so quickly, with one moment showing Haaland trying to put the ball on the left corner and in the next second, the image changed to the striker trying to chip the ball above his head, and so on.
It was as if his brain couldn’t really determine what the Norwegian boy was trying to do here, so Higo only had one choice in this scenario.
’Well, if I cannot use my brain, it is time to use my instinct!’
Even though Higo was anxious about his supernatural ability, he wasn’t the same amateur that the boy was in Niigata when he faced this kind of situation for the first time ever. No, Higo had already honed his instinct through hell, literally, and the boy still had some confidence in his ability here.
He lowered his stance while moving forward like a crab, wanting to cover as much space as possible. In the process, the boy also had his eyes locked on Haaland, trying to figure out where the striker would lay his eyes on.
’Left... Right... No, above... Fuck! Left!’
BAM!
The moment Haaland took the shot, Higo also reacted, extending his left foot while also leaning his body there to block it. His eyes lit up for a moment when the boy felt the ball hit his knee, but in the next second, the voice coming from behind was enough to make his heart sink.
Thud!
The ball bounced off his knee, rolling into the back of the net gently! A goal for Erling Haaland!
"YES!" The Norwegian striker spread his arms wide as if he was flying while rushing to the corner spot there, jumping and punching the air excitedly. "COME ON!" He roared to no one else there, making his voice echo so loudly throughout the whole empty stadium.
"YES, ERLING! That’s what we are looking for!" Mahmoud Dahoud jumped on the boy’s back while also waving excitedly at the... Empty stand. It seemed that everyone was still trying to get used to the empty stadium here.
Soon enough, all the Dortmund players around followed, hugging the boy while also slapping him quite hard on the back. It was clear that Erling Haaland was loved in that team. Well, how could he not, when he himself was a beastly striker with the potential to be the best in the world.
Meanwhile, Higo himself just looked at the ball on the back of his net helplessly.
’Damn! Almost again!’ He couldn’t help but curse, looking at the spot on his knee that managed to get the ball first. ’How could I be so unlucky like that?!’ He sighed, lying on the ground in frustration.
Yeah, the boy still remembered how Phillipe Coutinho destroyed him with that free kick a few months ago, when his hand managed to bruise the ball before it went into the back of his own net. This was exactly the same scenario, enough to make him overthink everything right now.
In front of him, Ozan Kabak and the rest of the team were still busy complaining to the referee.
"Come on! He used his elbow to block me! That’s a foul, Boss!"
"You cannot expect a clean game when you let that shit happen!"
"Where is your fucking integrity?!"
Yeah, they were protesting about the process of the goal, especially when Haaland dragged Ozan Kabak with him. Somehow, the Turkish defender managed to twist the truth here. Instead of him trying to pull Haaland down, it became Haaland who acted dirty in his mouth, using his arm to prevent Ozan Kabak from killing the ball.
The others also followed shamelessly, clinging to the small hope that the decision could be overturned. Unfortunately, they hoped too much here. The referee saw everything clearly, and the man didn’t even budge at their complaint.
"You should thank your luck that he scored a goal, because if not, you would be the one who gets off the pitch right now. Don’t think I didn’t notice your little trick here." He warned Ozan Kabak with an icy tone, enough to make the man back down immediately.
In the end, the decision stood, and Schalke had to accept that the lead they earned with blood and sweat vanished so easily, as if it didn’t belong to them in the first place.
Higo also felt guilty right now, apologizing to the rest of the team. "Sorry, that one is my fault. If only I could save it properly..." His tone was weak and small as he clenched his fists hard, trying to hold back his anger toward himself.
The others looked at each other for a moment before Omar Mascarell, the team’s captain, sent a karate chop to the boy’s head.
"Ouch! What the hell, Captain?!" Higo blinked in surprise. That little action was enough to wake the boy up from his self-blame party.
"What the hell?! That should be what I said, right?" The Spaniard sighed helplessly. "Why would you try to blame yourself for conceding this kind of goal?! Don’t you know how hard it is to handle a one-on-one situation like that?! Are you putting your standard too high here?"
Higo was stunned for a moment, not expecting to get scolded by the captain like that. Still, he had to admit that with his clairvoyant ability, his standard had become ridiculously high, forcing him to read everything perfectly even in the hardest situations like before.
If he were replaced by any other opponent, the boy was sure that no one would be able to survive that, so yeah, the captain’s words were enough to wake him up from his delusion.
"Anyway, don’t think too much about that goal." Daniel Caligliuri, the goal scorer, patted Higo on his shoulder reassuringly. "You have saved us so many times in the past, so it is time for you to start relying on us, you know? Don’t worry, we still have a chance today, so don’t lose hope in your teammates yet!"
