Chapter 111: The Hitman Is Pissed

Weird.

That was the only way Liam could describe most of Olivia’s family, save for Amelia.

Their actions and reactions felt as if he was watching people standing in front of their idols...

No.

It felt as if they were looking at their god.

The hitman had dealt with fanatics back on Earth, and he could identify their behavior at a glance.

Amelia was the only one who seemed relatively normal, so Liam couldn’t help but wonder if she was the only person in this family who actually treated Olivia like a person.

He looked at Olivia beside him, noticing that she was a bit tense again, so he simply took her hand again.

She looked down at his hand, then at his face before smiling as she was reminded that she wasn’t alone this time.

"So, Liam," Amelia said, placing both elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands as she looked at him.

"N-now now, Amelia, let’s not disturb our guest," one of the others who had been silent all this while, spoke up.

"I don’t mind," Liam responded, causing the man to turn to him, for a moment, the Hitman could see disgust in the man’s eyes, but he quickly hid it.

He, on the other hand, didn’t care about a bunch of NPCs, the onlu person here that mattered was Olivia.

So he didn’t care about what the others thought of him.

Liam then turned back to Amelia before responding, "what do you want to know?"

"Let’s start with how you two met?" A grin appeared on her face, "did you rescue her from some kind of dangerous situation? Or perhaps even more romantic, you beat off a couple of guys harassing her?"

"..." Liam looked at Olivia, who now had a hand over her face in embarrassment as she explained, "Amelia is an author, so she always expects reality to be like her fantasies."

"Of course," Amelia said, "all I need is a little Imagination."

Liam simply chuckled before responding to her previous question, "we met in a supermarket."

"Really?" Amelia asked again, "did she have trouble reaching the top shelf and as the gentleman you are, you offered your help?"

"And the moment your hands touched, you felt a spark go off between you two?"

Amelia’s eyes practically sparkled as she spoke, clearly enjoying the scenario she had created in her head.

Olivia’s face, meanwhile, had became completely red.

"No! Nothing like that happened!" She clarified, "I was a cashier at the supermarket where he happened to be shopping at."

Her words caused the others sitting around the large table to frown, after all, Radiance being a cashier felt like an insult.

But, again, the three paid no mind to them as Amelia continued, "Really?"

"Yes!"

Amelia looked at Liam, "Are you sure?"

"Pretty sure," the hitman nodded with a small smile on his face.

"That’s disappointing," She sighed dramatically before resting her chin on her hands again.

"I thought I’d finally get to hear a proper romance story."

The three continued their conversation for a while before the conversation around the dining table suddenly died down.

Olivia and Liam turned to the side, immediately noticing the reason for the silence.

Standing at the doorway that led into the dining hall, was a woman in elegant golden dress. The woman had a head full of grey hair, and brown eyes that were similar to Olivia’s.

Her skin was quite pale, and despite her age, she carried herself with an elegance that immediately drew everyone’s attention.

"Mother," Olivia was the first to speak up, but it was obvious enough that her mood had turned considerably worse than before.

Even the way she spoke sounded quite formal

The woman Olivia addressed as mother had her brown eyes fixed on her daughter several moments before slowly moving them toward Liam.

The moment their eyes met, Liam felt as though he was being examined, like some sort of object.

Liam simply smiled in response before he said, "Good evening."

The woman turned back to Olivia before finally speaking, "I expected you to do better than a Gamma-ranked hero."

Before Olivia had the chance to respond, she walked to the head of the table and sat down as the servants in the house started serving them food.

Liam, noticed something even stranger.

The moment her mother sat down, everyone else at the table seemed to straighten their posture.

Even Amelia, who had been casually joking with him moments ago, became noticeably quieter.

It was almost as if the entire atmosphere of the room had changed simply because this woman had arrived.

"Tell me Liam," the woman started, her voice still as cold as before, "what do you want from my daughter?"

Olivia’s grip on Liam’s hand tightened, and he knew that she was moments away from standing up and leaving.

He simply smiled and gave her hand a gentle squeeze before answering, "nothing."

The woman studied him for a few seconds before asking again, "Then why are you dating her?"

"Because I like her."

The moment he said those words, the pressure in the room seemed to get heavier.

It was almost as if he had said something completely absurd.

The woman stared at him for several moments before finally asking, "You expect me to believe that?"

"I don’t particularly care whether you believe me," he said with a shrug, "but what I do care about is you all enforcing on her whatever twisted beliefs you have formed in your minds about her."

"..." The entire table turned deathly silent as they all looked towards Liam.

Olivia’s mother looked at him for a while before chuckling and responding, "you only say that, because you’re ignorant to what she is."

"I think I know her quite well, perhaps even better than you," Liam said.

This was definitely not the best impression he could’ve made on the first meeting with his girlfriend’s parents.

But the hitman had no regrets in all he said.

"Oh," Olivia’s mother looked at him, her annoyance evident in her tone, "then would you enlighten us?"

"For people that call themselves her family, this feels nothing like a family gathering," Liam responded, "rather, it feels like some sort of weird cult gathering."

"One where she has to watch what she says, how she sits, how she acts... even how she addresses you."

"But when she’s with me, she doesn’t do any of that," he added, "when she’s with me, she can truly be Olivia, not whatever figure you all have built in your minds."

He then turned and looked directly into the eyes of Olivia’s mother, "you all are supposed to be her family."

"Yet the moment she walks into this room, everyone starts acting like they’re standing in front of a god," Liam continued, "it’s disgusting."

Well, he just made their impression of him worse....that much was obvious enough by the frowns on the faces of everyone around the table.

Well, almost everyone.

Amelia had a grin on her lips and Olivia seemed to have a look of surprise on her face, hearing his outburst.

Olivia’s mother continued staring at him for a while before asking,

"Would you believe the same if you found out that she was Radiance?"
